Having never heard of the area prior to arriving here, Hearthstone Cabins and camping in Helen was a joy to discover, a slice of heaven. The property, just over 8 acres is nestled in the mountains and a short drive into the center of town. It can be walked, but not suggested at night as it is a typical mountain road full of curves, inclines and limited lighting. The property is well equipped. About 1/2 the RV sites are full hook up, the other half do not have sewer. I'm in a 25' TT and was easy to back in to my site. Liz is delightful and has great plans to make it even more beautiful. Overall, It is a beautiful work in progress, with visible efforts being made daily. Looking forward to returning and seeing the additional upgrades and magic that is here. read more

Great lil, quaint spot just outside of Helen, GA. We definitely recommend and will be back. It is close and convenient to Helen attractions. Cozy spots for RVs and TTs and tents, walking trails, swings, hammocks, a swimming hole, outdoor games, a creation station for painting rocks or hiking sticks etc., and a hostess with the mostest! read more

Hell hole. Owner doing his own excavation work. I felt like we would slide over the cliff. Tenters had to set up under large trees with main roots exposed. A wind or rain storm will topple the trees over on them. Very costly for these campsites. I grew up in rural WV and this was "rough" even for me. Beautiful website and my print out of my reservations has a communications website as Hearthstone Concierge in the Gmail address. All put on. Nothing nice or fancy about this place. There is a reason for no pictures on the site. The one grassy area is all the grass that is there between two driveways. My daughter met me there to camp. She is an attorney. She actually took pictures to prove liability if anything happened to us or our camper while we were there. Think twice before booking this site unseen. There is another nice campground just a little farther down the road. That is where my family will be staying during our next visit to Helen, GA. read more

Very thoughtful design making tons of improvements. Close enough to town but still in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful swimming hole and Cabins. We stayed at an RV site with a yoga swing!! Hammocks, swings and fire pits everywhere. We will definitely return. read more

Communication was difficult and we originally booked another campground but after hearing back from Hearthstone Camping two weeks after our initial inquiry, we booked with them due to their proximity to Helen. We booked the minimum 4 nights since it was during Oktoberfest even though we only were planning to stay 3 nights. We had planned on two other couples to visit for just 2 nights we were there and paid extra for the extra people and 2 extra vehicles but before we arrived, we informed the owner that we wouldn't have but 1 extra vehicle as one from our party backed out last minute. We were charged an extra $80 (for 2 extra vehicles for 4 nights) and an extra $40 (for 2 extra people for 4 nights). I asked the owner for a refund for the extra vehicles/people that were not coming, especially since they were also charging us these extra fees for the additional night we were staying. I was told it wouldn't be a problem and to speak to them at check in. The owner has ignored my texts (the only way they communicate) repeatedly and told me she'd ask her "web team" about the refund because they have a new system and to message her after we got home. Upon our arrival we continued calling to check in (as there is no office) for 30 minutes while we sat in the roadway. My husband finally found someone to check us in and he was asked to trim trees on the property to get our RV in our site. He had a tree limb fall in his eye causing blurry vision and pain our first night there but he didn't say anything to them. The campsites have potential and the location is nice but it was NOT worth the money AT ALL. We paid over $500 for this campground which was ridiculous for the 3 nights we were there. I've been ignored after several inquiries about a refund for the services we didn't use (which they knew prior to our visit) and we paid for overflow parking and were told we needed to keep the extra vehicle on our site the whole time. Why is this extra?? There is no overflow lot. We will definitely seek other campgrounds next time we are in the area!! The owner speaks nicely to you in person and ignores messages and requests as to not deal with you. BEWARE! read more

A work in progress. The owners have put a lot of work / expense into the rv portion, but its definitely lacking. My fault for not reading the details. No flush toilets and the "shower house" is kind of , well , not modern or clean, plus you have to walk down a 100' very steep hill on crushed rock to get to it. It does have new electric, water and sewer to some of the sites. Nice walking trails on the property. Very nice owners. Don't know anything about the cabins- they look cute. On a very steep site. Every site does have a picnic table and fire pit. If they were to ad a "real" bath/ showerhouse, that would be huge. Most people expect more than a port-a-potty at any rv park. read more

It was very difficult from the beginning to even reserve a campsite; we left numerous messages and finally got a response from the owner. We asked to reserve a particular campsite that said it would hold 3 to 4 tents and two cars; we had three couples staying there. The pictures of the site on the website made the actual site look much bigger with a very long driveway. Nowhere on the site did it say it was a three night minimum since we were going during Oktoberfest. We ended up paying for a third night just to be able to reserve the place for two nights. The campsite was very pricey at $100 a night with no water, no picnic table or tent pole, nor a bear proof container. There was a small fire pit but no grate to cook on. When we got to the campsite, it took the owner quite a while to take us around to show us where the site was (nothing is marked so you have to take the owner in your car to find your site). She was not overly friendly. The site we had reserved would never fit our tents since they weren't tiny little one-man tents. She said that she would give us the larger campsite which was right next to it for a $10 a night upgrade since the family had canceled at the last minute. I reminded her that we had already paid an extra hundred dollars just to stay for two nights but she still charged my card the $30 upgrade fee. Our three tents barely fit on the campsite and we had to park one of our cars in a different location since it wouldn't even fit on the campsite area. There was a pond down the road; it was a very scary looking thing that I would never ever let my children or myself play in, there were out houses that were relatively clean, but the shower house was something I also would never ever want to step foot in. We are seasoned campers and don't expect luxury but this campground was too expensive for what was actually there. Overall, we felt that the website for the camping area did not truly represent what was available at the campsite. read more
