Katarina did a thorough exam and to my surprise put in a demo hearing aid at the end of my exam that enabled me to hear all the sounds I had been missing all these years! How could that be? Well, I looked into it and Katarina is an audiologist while the person I saw (twice) at the other place is a Hearing Instrument Practioner (HIP). Most customers may be well served by a HIP but for those of us with a bit more complicated situation, an audiologist like Dr Katarina is needed. Of course she can help those with more common hearing issues too. Within a week or two after my assessment I got my own customized hearing aid. Over a series of complementary appointments Katarina slowly increased the volume of the hearing aid and showed me how to care for it. Right from day one it felt comfortable to the point I forget I am wearing anything - no problems at all. I found Katarina to be very professional, kind and personable. Her competence is obvious as soon as you meet her. She told me her oldest patient is 102 (!) and her youngest is in her early teens. Her new office is bright and attractive. The location is convenient and comes with easy, free parking under the building or on surrounding streets.

NexGen told me that sometimes they had to redo molds for their custom ear plugs…read more After 90 days of waiting for 3 mold remakes, NexGen was never able to make a pair that did not hurt my ears. Every morning I wake up with at least one sore ear, but the reason I didn't accept their offer to return my money is that I need these ear plugs to block out the sound of my noisy next door condo neighbours. It's either pain or sleep deprivation. So I wear them, but wake up in pain every morning. It is now obvious to me that the reason my ear plugs are painful is: - the material used for the ear plugs is silicone which is quite hard - the edges of the ear plugs are not smoothly rounded in some places, and these sharp edges dig into my ear while I'm sleeping on my side I honestly think I could do a better job than NexGen. When I can stomach another attempt at getting custom ear plugs, there are other custom ear plug manufacturers in the Lower Mainland, and at least one uses material different to what NexGen's ear plug manufacturer uses. Another negative I experienced at NexGen is that each time I had to return the ear plugs for a remake, I was given an appointment with a different technician or audiologist. Four in all. Four. It was extremely annoying because I had to re-explain the situation each time and redevelop a sense of trust with each one. One claimed that I had been to her before, which I had not, as if making me out to be a "problem" customer. And one of their receptionists was rude towards me from my first visit. I really felt disrespected by NexGen. Although I deserve a refund, I need these ear plugs to counteract my noisy neighbours even though they cause me significant pain. It's a bad situation.

Thus, when I was received at CONNECT HEARING, Sharon at reception, and Tiffany, the audiologist, exceeded my expectations. They are very professional, receptive, and very friendly. Never in a moment did I feel uncomfortable or obliging. I say this because others with diplomas and certificates hanging in their offices made me feel like I was "taking too much of their time". "Helping patients resolve their problems to their great satisfaction" is the objective of those who are truly professionals. And this is what Tiffany at CONNECT HEARING amply represents. The hearing test she conducted was very thorough. She explained the steps she took to program the HAs. Most of all, she made sure that my HAs effectively resolve my hearing deficiency by recommending a trial period and booked a return appointment for proper adjustment if necessary. She speaks English, a Chinese language(not sure if Cantonese or Mandarin), medical jargon, & just regular folks (She answered my questions in either jargon or human, whichever I wanted) The initial hearing test is free! What you'll pay for hearing aids depends on style & your insurance coverage; mine were $4K full price, but I paid $0.00, including three years full warranty; free battery replacements when needed, & one complete replacement, if I lose them or they're destroyed. Quality product, quality people I'm in a wheelchair, so accommodations had to be made, & the staff were great. The first person you'll meet is Sharon at te front desk; SOO nice! She'll answer questions, too, but, of course, will direct technical questions to the hearing professionals on staff. Parking in front & back (main building entrance in front, but accessible from back; wheelchair uses need to park in back & wheel around the building, & up a gentle ramp to get in.); I came by 401 bus, which dropped me right on the corner after a 1.5 minute ride from Brighouse Station. Honestly, I'd consider trveling here from other Metro Vancouver cities -- they're that good! My hearing aids fit & work beautifully (& are completely discreet--nobody's noticed them yet!); they're small enough I can put my Bluetooth earpiece on over top no problem. .
