It is locally owned and operated by a Mexican family so there's lots of exotic fruits to mix up. Has okay prices for the quality. There's açaí bowls and smoothies, as well as hot foods such as empanadas and tacos. Came at breakfast. It's a small place with a couple tables inside. There's all kinds of fruits to make a smoothie or a bowl as well as granola and other stuff. Hard to choose. It's $8 for the build your own smoothies. Got one with almond milk and a few fruits. These are just one option. It's about $11 for the Berry Açaí Bowl. This is made with açaí, apple juice, bananas, blueberries, pitaya, and strawberries. Good enough but it gets better. Post completion of my run, I searched yelp for smoothie places within a radius of me. I took interest in two smoothie places 'Sol Chicago' (ranked no. 5), and 'Healthy and Simple' (ranked no. 2) which were both located in an area that I frequently visit. I nearly chose Sol Chicago because of its low reviews but went with Healthy and Simple solely because I figured parking would not be a headache due to its location. After briefly looking at its menu online, I took a liking to their breakfast smoothies which became the decision maker for me driving out. The options for parking I noted were along N Ashland Ave or within the neighborhood. During this visit, I was fortunate enough to find a parking spot directly outside which was pay by the plate. After entering Healthy and Simple, I encountered a woman working behind the counter who did not appear very social. She did her thing behind the counter until I was ready to order which is okay because I can relate; it was a Sunday the day of my visit. I ended up ordering a yellow breakfast smoothie solely because of its ingredients which were banana, pineapple, ginger, Greek yogurt, and orange juice. Yum! Service: 4 (Good) The mood was set with music by Juan Gabriel (El Divo de Juárez), a Mexican singer, songwriter and actor who is known for his flamboyant style. Other than that, Healthy and Simple gave off a peaceful vibe and felt similar to a Mexican restaurant yet consisting of healthy breakfast/ lunch items, and an array of juice & smoothie options. And as for dine-in there are only a few tables with seats available in the dining area. Atmosphere: 5 (Great) Oh my God! The yellow breakfast smoothie tasted very good! I could not help but enjoy the taste of each ingredient as I savored each sip! After finishing it, I said to myself "Ok, I think I got a favorite!" (A favorite smoothie place, and smoothie!) They use fresh ingredients which was the primary thing I was looking for and they did not disappoint. My only critique is that I think it's a little overpriced. Was looking up healthy restaurants in the area I was in and stumbled upon this place. The reviews looked great and so did their selection of food and drinks so my friend and I decided to give it a try. I ordered the tamale and an avocado pesto panini. Everything looked so good when it came out and the lady up front was nice. Just as I was about to put salsa on my tamale, things turned for the worst. I took the top off and saw that there was mold in my salsa. I quickly brought it to the lady's attention and she was really apologetic. She offered to refund me any item I had already paid for (you order, pay, and then they bring your food out). Being that they're a small business, I decided not to get anything refunded. There's a ton of cute little educational posters about the unique health benefits of different fruits and veggies which is very helpful because the possibilities are endless (you can customize your own drink!) I love this place SO MUCH! Me and two friends were looking for somewhere quick to eat after a full day of moving into a new apartment. Here's the catch: one friend is vegan, the other not, and I'm on a full-liquid diet (just had jaw surgery) - this place had something for everyone! We even got there 15 minutes before they closed and they still served us! When I say full-liquid diet, I mean that all my food has to fit through a pasta strainer. This place fit the bill because they have smoothies, but at 8pm I was really hoping for something savory. The beautiful people at Healthy & Simple were willing to liquify a tamale in the blender for me! They blended it with chicken broth and put it in a big cup with a straw. They're my new heroes. My friends both had tamales (in solid form) and they were just raving about them. I'm looking forward to coming back when I can chew! I'm so glad I found this place.
