Dear Dr. Mir and Dr. Zahir, Dr. Mir, thank you for the time yesterday to discuss x's Vitamin D levels, and a few front office concerns. I totally get that there is a demanding job to be done for so many patients, but I wanted to share my experiences shown in the attached of phone calls diverted to text and DAYS to respond where often I'd have to choose between calling again or texting again ... or just moving on with my life to figure my question out for myself, managing two littles, a household, work, teaching, volunteering, etc. I was so sick in September and am deeply grateful for Dr. Zahir's immediate diagnosis of pneumonia, but I had a follow-on concern regarding a prolonged roller-coaster fever that wouldn't break for several days. It was FRUSTRATING to call, get diverted to text then have the texts ignored for days. It was FRUSTRATING to not be able to have a simple question answered - should my daughter and I get our bloodwork taken first before having a follow-up regarding our Vitamin D levels? If yes, could someone submit bloodwork orders? Again, no one picked up the phone, my text was misunderstood, and it took far too much time for me to chase down an answer to this simple question. It was FRUSTRATING that our follow-up appointments were canceled. It was FRUSTRATING that it took so much time to find an alternate dates/times. It is FRUSTRATING to receive four texts in a week to confirm/check-in for any appointment. It was FRUSTRATING to pull my daughter out of class only to have the receptionist tell us not to come in because the appointment was scheduled as virtual. I had planned to be in person because I wanted to have her BP checked after she recently experienced super low BP from a serious flu. It was FRUSTRATING to have her later in our conversation say, "Well, you can come in if you'd like." Because the appointments were now pushed back to 3:15 and 3:30, I would have been late to pick up my son at his school just down the street from your office as I had originally planned. It was FRUSTRATING to receive a demand call ten minutes before our follow-up appointment on February 27, shaking me down for payment after the FIRST AND ONLY bill was emailed on February 11 that, if not paid, we could not keep the appointment with you. It was FRUSTRATING that she didn't explain upfront: x amount is for x service on x date for x person. She whizzed through the balance due without explaining these details until I finally said, "Hold on. Why haven't I received a bill until now for appointments in September and October?" to which the response was, "We emailed you a bill on February 11." It was FRUSTRATING that I have concerns about my own health but didn't have time (or demeanor) to have a focused conversation with you yesterday. Hopefully I'll find time soon to go through the process of calling, texting, waiting then needless back and forth to set an appointment. May I respectfully suggest going through patients' calls and texts, observe how patients are treated, and perhaps it will become apparent that simply picking up the phone to talk with patients, not forcing patients to text their concerns, clearly responding to them within a reasonable time frame, and, most of all, have a CARING attitude will make a significant difference. I was not informed during the appointment that this could result in an additional charge. After reviewing my visit documentation, I also felt portions of the note did not fully reflect my understanding of the visit, particularly regarding the extent of evaluation performed beyond the wellness exam. After raising concerns and providing supporting documentation, the office acknowledged overlap between the preventive visit and additional billing and indicated the matter would be reviewed. However, I did not receive a final follow-up or resolution regarding the coding review or reimbursement request. When asked how long the lab results take to come back, the doctor stated, oh, only a few days, I'm just soo busy. To then call, and someone in the office says the doctor is very behind. Then why take new patients? I Called the office and asked how much longer before the doctor was planning to call me about the results, answer? Later this week. Call finally came in today and it wasn't even the doctor! No options, no request for a second visit to discuss. Just straight to the medicine. No thanks. These things are scary for people and to just have disregard because they're too busy? There are plenty of better doctors and practices. When I arrived, the emergency room was essentially empty. A security guard checked me in because no one was at the front desk, and I was eventually taken to a room by a nurse. While waiting for the physician, I stood at the sink running cool water over my hand for relief. The doctor eventually came in, looked at my hand from a distance, joked by asking if I had been "cooking something delicious," and said I'd be out soon to enjoy my dinner. The interaction felt brief and did not leave me feeling like my injury was thoroughly evaluated. Before I left, a nurse applied a light dressing and loosely wrapped my hand. During my visit, a senior nurse personally escorted us out because another patient who had previously been treated had returned upset and caused a disturbance that required local police to respond. I appreciated the staff taking precautions to ensure everyone's safety during that situation. The biggest disappointment came afterward when I received a bill for more than $5,000. Based on the explanation of benefits and billing information I received, my visit was billed at a very high emergency department level, despite my injury being a minor hand burn that required only a brief evaluation and a simple bandage. As a patient, this was difficult to understand, especially given that the emergency room was nearly empty and my care did not feel consistent with such a high level of service. The nurses were kind and professional throughout my visit, but the overall experience left me questioning both the value of the care I received and the resulting charges. She up to date on the latest women's health care issues which is very important to me. I don't feel dismissed like I do with many physicians, especially male physicians. The practice is very good about prescription refills, making and rescheduling appointments, etc. The entire staff is friendly and professional. The lab is a separate entity from the practice. it has only been three months but i love this practice!…read more i toured three, maybe four, offices before i decided that this one was the one for me. it was the last one i visited and happened to be the closest to my home. dr. ulen was the one who gave us the presentation and the doctor who we have seen the most. she is great and we feel very comfortable with her. everyone has been really nice and helpful. it feels like family in there. our appointments have run very much on time. i have used a lot of their services including the after hour nurse line (eek!), met with their lactation consultant, and consulted with their GI nurse specialist. i love that they have long hours and weekend hours. this practice is pro-vaccination (to each their own and i will leave it at that). they have electronic medical records that you can access on your own. we had our one month appointment with dr. schwartz right before his retirement. he is such a sweet man and i wish there were more people on earth like him. he collects beanie babies to give out to the kiddos!
