I went there to see a photographic exhibition by Decatur artist Conne Thalken, who - full disclosure - is a friend. Her work is excellent, of course, but this review is for the gallery. Whitespace is inside a carriage house behind an old home near where Euclid Ave splits off Edgewood. The gallery has two medium-sized rooms designed to hang art work or host an installation. It's intimate, but still large enough for a fair-sized opening. I like the character inside the space and the Inman Park location adds considerable ambiance. It's a great place to see art. Parking is not abundant with but a few spaces inside the grounds. If attending an opening, you'll need to park on the street, which isn't a big problem in this area.

In this opportunity I'm going to talk about Whitespace, my favorite art gallery in Atlanta! Whitespace was founded by art facilitator and connoisseur Susan Bridges, and it's a gem of Atlanta's cultural life. Not only because it's "a unique art venue which represents emerging and established contemporary artists," as they describe the gallery in their website, but also because their whole space is gorgeous and refined, without being snobbish or pretentious. Every time I plan to go there, I know I'm going to see interesting and carefully curated artwork, while having a wonderful time enjoying both the featured pieces and the place. Whitespace is a delightful cluster of bricks shaped by a front/side garden-patio, a spectacular 1893 house and what I consider a demi-house --where several rooms graciously host the artwork. I strongly recommend you pretty ladies and keen gentlemen interested in the arts, to keep informed of their fun openings through their website http://www.whitespace814.com/. If you catch a form, a color palette, a medium that thrills you, and the opening date related to all previously mentioned and attend it, join their mailing list by signing up in their reception. By the by, their openings are usually FABULOUS celebrations. Back in July 2007, they had a show featuring womanhood through the figure of Frida Khalo (Viva La Frida), where they showcased painting, photography, sculpture (featuring a very impressive cake-sculpture that was eaten afterward), performance and video. The party they put together for the opening included a beautiful candlelit flower altar that welcomed the public, right next to a chic "margarita" open bar, some delicious ouer d'oeuvres, and a burlesque live show by Atlanta's cabaret dancers the Dames AFlames (hot stuffff! http://www.damesaflame.com/peek2.htm). Here are my thoughts: Location - The location is spacious and cute instead, reminds me of an art gallery. Parking - this is where it gets confusing, its in a small space but parking was confusing for me. I recommend coming earlier to find parking. My favorite thing was the was that the instructor made sure each of us knew what we were doing before having us doing it on our own. I also loved the music while we worked. I would come back! Once I purchased the deal I followed the instructions and emailed them using the link provided in order to book the class using the Groupon. I got no response on that Saturday the 18th so I emailed several times leading up to the day we wanted to take the class. No response. I called 3 times (once on Tuesday 21, Wednesday the 22 and then again on Thursday) I finally spoke with a rather rude individual finally on Thursday that told me he never got my emails, and never had time to listen to the messages. I told him I wanted to book the class using a Groupon he then proceeded to tell me all his classes were booked full. At that time I informed him I was on his website looking at his class times and it was showing 3 openings available. He put me on hold and when he came back asked me to refresh the page at which time he had closed EVERYTHING. Would have love to have taken the class but not with all the scamming. Don't recommend you buying the deal from Groupon either. The whole ordeal was a Hugh disappointment

I found it through Groupon which had a "Corks and Canvas" deal. This is a really nice art gallery with tons of art from different artists that work there. Upon our arrival, we were greeted in the kindest fashion by the young lady at the entrance. She got my guest and I all situated for our Art class and gave us complimentary glasses of wine and appetizers(yes! classy) lol They also don't mind if you bring your own bottle(s) of wine to enjoy while you are there! The art class was very relaxing and the instructor was very knowledgeable but free-minded. If you ever have a chance...definitely go check this place out! It's a great idea for a date night with your significant other or just a cool place to go check out! Everything on the walls is for sale if you really happen to like a piece. Much like Indie Craft Experience across the street, Paper Ghost Studio serves as an event and studio space so it is open by appointment or events only. I recently went to their casual Valentine's Day event and had a blast looking for unique prints and cards for friends. Prints are usually $25, going up for limited releases and I think I saw $100-200 for originals (mixed mediums, and framed). Great place to find quirky prints for friends who are into that kind of thing, or cards to send to your beloved. Parking is street and usually not too hard to find.

We got…read morethere a little late so didn't have too much time but was still able to see the majority of the museum with a quick pace. Kind staff, great exhibits, architecture and art. I really enjoyed the various rooms and variety from impressionists to modern and everything in between. Would definitely add this museum to my Atlanta itinerary.

I especially enjoyed the mix of contemporary and classic works, and the building itself is beautiful with plenty of natural light. We visited on a weekend afternoon and found it busy but still comfortable to navigate. There were plenty of benches throughout for taking a break and really appreciating the artwork. I'd recommend this for a date, solo afternoon, or when you have visitors in town. My biggest tip would be to check the special exhibitions before your visit since they can be a major highlight. Definitely one of Atlanta's gems.
