After standing for over an hour, we noticed this little area off to the left side of the stage and discovered it was VIP. Yes GURL! That's exactly what this mama needed -- a place to SIT! For $30 per person, the VIP area had seating, a private bar, private bathrooms, and a fan. Worth. Every. Penny. Hi-Fi is such a gem. Great atmosphere, fun setup, and I love that it feels tucked away right in the neighborhood. We had such a great first experience and will definitely be back!

I have a soft…read moreplace in my heart for Tufty Clough's Radio Radio, a Fountain Square live music spot since 2001 and absolutely one of my favorite places to hear live music in Indy. Radio Radio is a 21 and over, general admission concert venue that offers table and lounge seating on a first-come/first-serve basis with the rest being standing room only (or sitting in my case, eh?). They offer full bar service and have specialty craft cocktails at select shows. Radio Radio is only open during shows with doors opening an hour before the first act is scheduled to play. It's a smoke-free facility, though it's my understanding you can smoke out back. Radio Radio has a really killer vibe with a weaving together of style, substance, retro, and probably a few other things. I don't get to Radio Radio nearly enough, but every time I go I'm like "Man, I need to come here more often." There are free parking lots in various locations around Fountain Square along with street parking in spots. Curb cuts are plentiful in Fountain Square, though it is an older part of the city so there are occasional sidewalk cracks. The front entrance is perfectly accessible and the venue itself is fairly solid, though the "Standing Room Only" shows can be a challenge. My understanding is they'll try to work with you with advance notice, though I have to be honest and say I've never had any difficulties as without exception I've found Radio Radio crowds to be respectful of wheelchair users when they show up. I've always been able to see, though I do typically arrive early just to make sure. Radio Radio's sound system was updated a few years ago and the sound is extremely awesome now. Acts range from local bands to up-and-coming regional and national acts or bands with more of a cult following. Concert capacity is right around 250. There's also this incredibly beautiful winding bar. Employees are friendly and helpful, drink prices are fair (especially for music venues), solid craft beer options, and I just love this entire vibe. It is worth noting that Radio Radio does not do food. If you don't know David "Tufty" Clough, he was the longtime bassist for Toxic Reasons and also for Zero Boys. He was also one of my first artist interviews when I was in college (so, yes. I'm a longtime fan). He also used to own Broad Ripple's Future Shock. This is an awesome venue and one of the better mid-sized options here in Indy. If you've never seen a show, I highly recommend it.

One of my favorite venues they always perform at is here at State Street. It's in a great location out between the areas of Holy Cross, Woodruff Place and Fountain Square and it's very convenient. I think they have an amazing patio to hang out on when you need a break from all of the fun inside. However, I do love it when they have outdoor performances, because it's just a cool environment with all the fun license plates and signs plastered onto the wooden fence. Heading on into the bar, you'll immediately see a stage area in the corner with some booths and tables in the middle and a long bar to your left usually lined with a few people. What's nice about coming in here is that when they take a cover, they don't expect you to have cash, because it's the 21st Century. They used to have you just go to the bar and put it on your tab, but they now have a little square they put in their tablet and swipe away. They have food and the only time I've really eaten it, I liked it. I just got a cheeseburger when I was there on the 4th. It was like your classic pub burger, which has a pretty indescribable taste other than it tastes like a pub burger. I normally get the $5 Tecate to keep it casual and more bang for your buck (in my opinion and if I've done my math right). The staff is always friendly, the guests that come here are usually pretty cool and afterward, it's a short walk, ride or drive over to Dorman Street if you want to continue having some fun.

We grabbed a table outside and watched the place slowly fill up. Even as it got busier, our waitress somehow never skipped a beat. She was juggling a full section, recommending menu favorites, and even mixed up a drink for me when I couldn't decide what I wanted. Those are the servers you remember. Let's talk about that Bloody Mary... I've seen Bloody Marys that came with a celery stalk. This one came with what felt like an entire appetizer sampler balanced on top. Bacon, cheese, olives, pepperoni...if you leave hungry after finishing one of these, that's on you. Bloody Mary Overachievement Meter: (possibly qualifies as brunch.) The burger completely lived up to the hype. Crispy edges, juicy center, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. The hand-dipped chicken fingers were every bit as good, and the fries became dangerous the second they met the homemade ranch. (Yes...get the ranch.) Ranch Dunkability Meter: 9.8/10. I'd happily dip "just one more fry" about seventeen times. Inside, you'll find live music, TVs with whatever game is on, and a crowd that somehow makes you feel like you've been stopping in for years. It's casual, welcoming, and exactly what you hope a neighborhood tavern will be. Parking can be a little tricky depending on the time of day, but it's absolutely worth circling the block once if you have to.
