I wait months to get an appointment, plan my schedule around it, and then end up having it canceled at the last minute. Once is understandable--things happen. But having this happen three times in a row, every single time I've booked, is unacceptable. At this point, it's not an isolated inconvenience; it's a pattern that shows a complete lack of respect for clients' time. I've given this salon multiple chances, but I will not be returning. There are plenty of other salons that can provide a more reliable and professional experience.

Amy and Bishlam have created such a lovely space... they're both so friendly and clearly passionate about what they do. Bishlam carefully took his time to look at my hair and to get a sense of what I wanted/didn't want and he even talked through some techniques for styling and explained what kind of products would work best for my texture. For anyone who's struggled to find a really great curly hair specialist, I can't recommend them enough! So lucky to have them in town!

I was not at all sure my hair could be salvaged after being razored and chopped in recent months. The color is dimensional and natural and the cut is terrific too. It feels wonderful to know I've re-found my way to a new hair home. And I got a bunch of spontaneous compliments!

I arrived with an absolute emergency of a mess, a cut off all your hair, how did I get here, MESS. Major chemical/product damage, it was not viable. I was fully resigned to a short bob for a complete restart, but she was able to use her skill to come up with what she called a "custom haircut" and that's exactly what it was. Where the texture was once straw/sandpaper, is now silk. I cannot recommend Susan enough! If she can make sunshine come out of THIS experience, I can only imagine what she is capable of working with other clients. It was very kind of all the ladies in the salon to come and give their recommendations as well, I really felt like everyone came together and saved what they could of my hair! I have a friend who seems to get these amazing haircuts when she is in town, and I always ask her every time I see her, where and who does her hair? She kept telling the name of a gal at this place in San Rafael, but I personally wasn't truly ready to make the jump from long hair to short, just yet. About 6 months ago, I saw her again, and asked the same question, because her hair looked amazing! She told me to go to Headlines and ask for Linda. I am VERY picky about who touches my hair. I'm the same way with waxing as well. I've even driven from Los Angeles to Marin, to get my eyebrows waxed by "my eyebrow lady" because the one time I went out on a limb....it was a disaster. I tried cutting my hair short and went to Cooper Alley in Larkspur. I paid a lot of money, for a haircut that I ended up hating, and spent the next 6 months with a hat on my head. That experience was 4 years ago, and it took me until 6 months ago to bite the bullet, trust my friend, and see Linda. I brought pictures of what I wanted. There were several, and they all looked different. She felt my hair, and really got a feeling for what my hair would look best in, and not to go as short as I wanted, "let's try this look and, if you feel more comfortable, we can go even shorter in the future." She was right. I was SHOCKED at how amazing my hair looked. People, complemented me constantly. Over the course of the next few months, I did eventually decided to go pixy, and I have to say, I wouldn't trust anyone else with a short edgy cut, than her. She has been doing hair for close to 15 years, and is very talented at envisioning the final outcome. A concept in regards to hair, I have an issue with, as I had NO idea what it would look like mid cut... Every time I see her, my hair cuts get better and better, when I didn't think it was possible! She told me that as she understands the way my hair works with different cuts, the better they get, and she was right. I highly recommend Linda, if you want an edgy, professional short do. I have no experience with her other than that, but I can vouch for that huge hair transformation that many women and men may be looking for at any point in their life. read more

I *have* to say how wonderful Linda is. After a very bad experience at an upscale salon where my hair was butchered, Linda saved me. 5 years later and I would never even consider letting another person touch my hair! I love it and I get compliments ALL the time. I love her creative talent! I actually carry a few of her business cards with me because I got tired of writing down her number. If you want a great cut or amazing color all your own you need to see the girl. Seriously, do yourself a favor. I've come to her with a lot of ideas over the years and she's always more than accommodating and gives it to you straight (considering things like the shape of your head and texture of your hair, *how* you do your hair on the regular, what products you use, and even weighing her coloring with your complexion). Always trust a real professional to tell you what will actually work wonders and it turns out awesome. You'd really being paying twice the price for her talent anywhere else too. (and she gives free bang trims in between haircuts!! tho I always tip her for her time:) ) She's always made me safe in her chair; she actually listens to what I want and has always given me more than I asked. Even when the other stylists and customers are hectic and annoying and high maintenance and loud, I can stay grounded with her and know I look good when I leave. If you are one of those people that knows exactly what they want and exactly how you want done, great, she can do it.... Headlines is my spot! And Linda is my gal. She salvaged my hair from destroyed "generic black", lifting it back to my natural dark blond, and bringing it back to it's healthy, natural state. She helped me grow it out, trimming as necessary, and we had fun with V bangs, choppy bangs and side sweeps on the way. Later she did a fantastic job giving me the perfect "amelie" bob, and then bleached it a glowing platinum without frying it, as had been the case in my previous DIY attempts. I get compliments for the cut (especially the graduated bob back, which shows off my neck) all the time, both from friends and other hair professionals. I see her at least every six weeks, and she is always totally accommodating with her schedule. If you want styling ideas from a high-class professional, or know exactly what you want, see her. Headlines is also a nice, layed back place, where both regulars and walk-ins are always welcome, without the snooty holier-than-thou vibes you get from other salons that make you feel like the match stick kid just stumbled in. go headlines! read more

JEANIE exceeded my expectations and I am THRILLED with my new style. She is highly experienced, so accommodating AND consulted with me throughout the cut and style when she had a question, listening to my needs and calming my concern. And the price did not break my piggy-bank. I found JEANIE - in a magic bottle. After losing my hair-stylist of 15 years in SF and I was so concerned about finding someone to replace her, but I can say, no more worries. I took a chance and asked SIRI where to go local in Marin, specifically in San Rafael, and it turned up Headlines as the FIRST best-rated option. THe Salon is homey and down-to-Earth, and parking is free if you just park off 4th, on the side street. If you want to drop a fortune to go to a Posh, Hip place, then you can spend your money on the decor and their high rent, but I'd rather come someplace comfortable, clean and where the money to the talented stylist and owner who work hard to build a great business. AWESOME! I have difficult hair, that I would ordinarily describe as frizzy and difficult. I fear hair cuts because I have had people who insisted they knew how to deal with the course texture and thickness, but ended up making me look like a complete fool. I explained all of this to Holly, showed her pictures of how I ordinarily wear my hair and talked about my fear of haircuts. I also explained that I needed some refreshing because my style was drab and boring. She made some suggestions, and I was actually a little leery, but agreed. OMG! I can not believe the miracle she worked with my hair. My friends and family couldn't believe the miracle she worked with my hair. My husband couldn't believe the miracle she worked with my hair!!! This review is for Rosa, as I have not tried any of the other stylist's services. Since my hair is long, straight and boring I always assumed there weren't many options in terms of styles. Anytime I have had layers or anything out of the ordinary it ends up looking flat or awkward. I have been going to Rosa for almost two years and she has completely changed how I feel about my hair. I constantly receive comments about how great my hair looks. I try to see her regularly, but even after 3 months I receive complements and questions about who cuts my hair. I have actually thought to myself, 'I hope she doesn't move!' because I would seriously drive way out of my way to see her. On another note she is absolutely hilarious and says completely shameless things so getting a cut with her is always a riot. I would give her 6 stars if I could. I have been to headlines twice once for a color and once for a haircut. I was lucky to walk in and have Karen attend to me both times. I will be making an appointment from now on as I will always request Karen. She is fabulous at her craft , focused while she works , and truly listens to what one has to say in regards to hairstyle desired. I came to her with a difficult project - my hair was a disaster from a former haircut from a friend - and Karen listened to how it happened, and how I wanted it to be. I made an appointment at Headlines to have my haircolor touched up and my hair cut. They were very friendly and helpful on the phone and I was even able to have my hair done on a Monday, almost unheard of in the world of salons. When I arrived I was greeted and was seated in Karen's chair right away. We had a thorough consultation and I really felt like she listened to me. She applied the color neatly and with precision. There were many cute purses, jewelry and greeting cards to look at while my color processed. Karen cut my hair exactly how I wanted it and blow dried it into a very cute style. This is a cute, professional salon in downtown San Rafael. I have been going to Headlines for at least 10 years, I absolutely love it. It has a great, warm environment with a very professional staff. Joyce has been doing my Cuts and Highlights for 25+ years and I have always been very pleased with the outcome everytime, Many people complements me on my hair & I refer them to Headlines. Joyce & Holly have put Featherlocks in my daughters hair recently and she was ecstatic to find out that Headlines is a Featherlocks Salon! I normally don't feel compelled enough to actually write a review for something, but this salon goes above and beyond. I love this place, the staff are always so kind and professional. My hair stylist Rosa went through which colors would best suit my natural hair color and was patient, allowing me to decide without rushing me. I am a very picky person when it comes to service. I want it all. Fair price, good manners, nice environment and people who know what they're doing. I got all of that here and have never been happier with my color. I've been going to Linda for years, she is the only person I trust and feel comfortable in styling my hair. As a person suffering from psoriasis, it is hard to feel at ease enough with a stylist to let them spend time with my all to often problematic scalp. I am very self conscious about my condition, but Linda has always gone out of her way to make me feel safe in her chair. If you have the same affliction, or one that is similar, and are looking for a person and place where you can go and get a top of the line hair cut without feeling ashamed, go to Headlines and ask for Linda. read more

I love Linda at Headlines. After having my hair burned to a crisp at the Magnolia Ave. Salon, it was Linda who nursed my hair back to health. She's young, talented and very, very nice. With hair burned from root to tip, she came up with a great and creative way to style my hair. At a salon, I always ask for what I want. I ask Linda for wash-and-wear hair for the summer, and I get wash-and-wear hair for the summer. I ask for less layers; I get less layers. My hair hadn't seen the inside of a salon in a couple of years. I checked out reviews for Headlines and called for an appointment. They were quick to call back and I scheduled a haircut with Rosa. She was fabulous! No one rolled their eyes at the sad excuse for a hairdo I had clipped on top of my head. Rosa listened to what I wanted and although she couldn't help me grow 3 inches taller, her haircut and style made me look like a new and much improved woman. This place is amazing! I always get my haircut there by Holly. She is the best! I wanted my hair cut short but my friends thought I would look really bad with short hair. Holly totally pulled it off! You wouldn't think this place is so hip because of the older appearance of the building and some of the granny clientele, but you will be presently surprised. Ask for Karen. I walked in from the street without an appointment and she fit me right in. I had just walked out of the fancier Fusion Salon after, Frank, an arrogant stylist talked my ear off and wanted to cut all of my hair off. I have been going to this salon for years. The manicurist, Hoa, is amazing! She makes my feet look gorgeous and my boyfriend actually notices and compliments them...that's a first! The esthetician, Patricia, is fabulous as well. Best facials ever and she massages your feet and your arms while you have the masks on. I felt right at home with first Joyce, the owner of the shop, and then Sarah--it's been a great transition! They've been easy to work with, too, with my occassionally wacky commute schedule. I sent my daughter there to get a hair cut and get a part of her hair changed to blonde. The owner of this place gave us a price of $130 for Boleosh Color, $100 for hair cut. She doubled the price to $400, because she used more foil and product, she said. Note to the owner: "I recommend you let your clients know of the change in the price, prior to doing the work, and don't surprise them, and hide behind the fact you are so pro, up beat, and you serve the rich people and we don't deserve to live in your neighborhood... etc. " The owner of this place took advantage of my daughter, what a pathetic losing way of extracting money from people!!!! We are not happy with the results at all!!! After I left this review, this is the true colors of the owner come out, on her private message to me on Yelp, I have edited the "ugly words" to help and follow yelp guide lines. Her assistant also followed suit with insults with the private message as well. I was able to walk in (which is a huge win for moms who don't always know when they'll have enough time) and she was able to shampoo, cut, and style my hair. My hair is still long, feels so much healthier, and has tons of movement. Also, a shout out to Ms. Martha, who took a walk-in request for my son's haircut. He's 6, autistic, and finding folks who have patience and understanding is hard. Ms. Martha was AMAZING with my son. He usually really struggles with haircuts, and this was by far, such a win. We are new to Novato and have been on the search for a local place and are so thrilled to have Aneglic's Hair Design salon nearby. Everyone there is very skilled, kind, and you will love your experience.

EYE BROW WAX REVIEW ONLY…read more I hate giving bad reviews but the waxing service was really poor. I paid $20 ($25 w/ tip) to have my eyebrows waxed not so great. Ehhh.. not so much. A Head of Time Hair Design is more expensive than the average hair salon. For $20 I can get an eyebrow wax at the Bay Club's spa by an esthetician on a proper table, in proper light. I got home and had to pull out the tweezer to get a bunch of strays she missed. The lighting was bad and it can't help she did it in a salon hair cutting chair. There are plenty of places in Marin to get a better eyebrow wax for $12.

I always stayed because I was always hesitant to let just anyone cut or color my hair. I came to Prescision 6 because I have known the owner, Renee, for a very long time. I made the appointment after I got fed up at my last place. Hands down, Renee gave me the BEST haircut that I have ever had. I have a large amount of curly hair and she really knew how to cut it. I walked out of her shop with so much more body and volume. No one else is ever going to cut my hair again. I went back to see Jamira for my color a week later and am also very happy with that too. If you are looking for one of those fancy places that kisses your ass and serves you lattes and has a special girl just to blow dry your hair, then don't come here. If you want to come to a very down-to-earth place, where everyone is cheerful and does a great job, then by all means come her. What I really liked about this place is the way Renee and her other stylists are so friendly. I like the location of this place too, having Peets, Longs Drugs and Lucky's right there is a bonus so I can go and do the rest of my shopping when I am done getting my hair done.

"Pooh" was finishing up a client when I got there and we started late but I wasn't in a hurry. When my turn came we did a consult of what I was looking for (chopping long hair) and the various particulars. Then a wash and away we go! I found her easy to talk too and she was very meticulous about getting the cut straight. Wide variety of clients came and went--yes men get their haircut here too. Ladies cuts start at $75. Kevin Murphy products are for sale and used for your wash and styling. They are opening an additional space in March for esthetician services, micro tattoos and more!
