I needed a new stylist so decided to let Yelp decide for me. I chose Headlines mainly because of the negative review about the stylist name Linda. I use to do hair and know there are difficult clients who are never, ever happy. The bad review about Linda was poorly written, ridiculous and caddy. I decided Linda would get my business based on the caddy review by the angry customer. I know from my professional experience that there are clients who you just can't please and I felt the review written was one of these types of clients. Yes, I know I really took a leap on this one but figured it is just hair and if Linda is terrible like the girl reviewed, then I can get it fixed and rethink my method of choosing a stylist next time. I went to Linda and instantly felt a connection. I have to say, this is the best haircut I have probably ever had and the hilites are fantastic!! I am so glad I trusted my gut on this one. Linda now has a new, very pleased client. I love taking lemons and making lemonade!!!!! The salon is absolutely adorable too. It is happy and friendly and not once did I doubt Linda's abilities. Linda is the best!! I have been going to see Linda here for over a year now cause she understands my difficult hair! I have fine hair that won't stay styled or really won't retain hair dye. She understands my issues and makes it works!! I like seeing her at Headlines but they have good pricing and it's in a great location! They always have a great selection of products you can purchase at good prices. All of the staff have been kind and attentive. My experience was not great. I went for a simple cut and highlights. The color is so bad I am embarrassed to go to work. When I called to ask if she could fix it, she said I would have to wait a week until she was available!!! The cut is very uneven and the stylist said she didn't have time to blow dry or style my hair when I left. It made me feel like I was such a bother. The stylist gossiped the entire time and made me feel so uncomfortable. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. Uggh read more

For the best hair dresser in Marin ask for Joyce, OMG my hair has never looked better! I never knew my hair could look this great! I get compliments at least once a day. I have dark brown hair and the color she did looks natural that is hard to do w/ dark brown. The salon is pretty and clean and the her product line is great. I will never go any where else! I was unhappy with my color for years and did not know that it could look this good, my hair looks like it did 20 years ago as far as color. I just used my groupon for a great cut by Karen. She was very meticulous in her style, every cut was measured and calculated with care. I don't know when I have had so much attention paid to my hair before. She was very personable, professional and she listened to my needs and told me exactly what she planned to do before she started to cut. She used great Redkin products and suggested a yummy product to go home with (I never buy product at salons... but this one I had to have). The blow dry was just as perfect as the cut. The result is divine! The salon has been there for 30 years, and many of the "regulars" it seems have been going there since it opened. I actually enjoy being around people of earlier generations so it was fun for me to see the "beauty parlor" activities. The decor is simple, clean and comfortable. I found it refreshing as I grow weary of the techno hipster salons you find everywhere. I actually don't like the feeling of being in a nightclub when I go for a haircut.... unless they are actually serving cocktails, then it may be fun. I should add, they have a parking lot which is nice as street parking will run $1/hr. I booked an appointment for another cut in a few months, so there you go. I'm a fan! read more

This was not only the worst experience at a salon but perhaps the worst experience EVER! I have never been treated so poorly. I went in for a haircut (I have long hair and asked for some subtle long layers). Linda was my stylist and as she started cutting my hair, her hands were trembling. I didn't really think anything of it thinking maybe she has some disability figuring she must be able to cut hair if this is her profession. At the end when I looked in the mirror I noticed that one side was a choppy mess, it had one length of short hair and then long hair while the other side was more blended. She said it was just the way she styled it and to wash it tomorrow and if I didn't like it I could come back the next day no problem. So I paid and tipped her and went home. Well everybody that I saw that night told me how awful the cut was. So in the morning I called to salon. Linda wasn't there so the other stylist kept saying I need to wait to speak to Linda to get it fixed. But then she said that Linda was fully booked today. I had a party to go to tonight so I told her that I'm not one to be difficult but that I had this party tonight and told her that I really need this to be fixed today and if Linda couldn't do it, could another stylist. She told me she would have Linda call me. Well Linda never called so I called back. The same girl told me to just wait for her to call. I then told her that if I couldn't get it fixed by them today then let me know so I can try to find another salon to help out so I can go to my party. She said she'll ask another stylist and call me back. By noon, I decided to just go to the salon. Linda was with another client so I asked if there was another stylist that could help and she said no. I then asked if the owner could maybe come in to help. Linda had overheard I guess and said "Are you serious, you're going to bring Joyce into this?" I was really confused at her nasty tone. The other stylist then told me Linda was just finishing up and that I should speak with her. I agreed. When Linda was done I had her look at my hair. She was acting really defensive and nasty so I told her I'm not trying to be difficult but my hair is really messed up and I just want it fixed. She said that I had threatened that I would go to another salon and wanted a refund. Before I could even answer she said "DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT?!" I said I didn't threaten I just merely said that if no one could fix it today then let me know so I can try to get an appointment before other salons were booked. Anyway I thought I had smoothed everything over. She saw the problem and said that she can try to blend it more. So I agreed to let her cut. After a couple cuts she said that she needed to stop cuz she had another client. I said ok but it doesn't look fixed. She then said that I would need to wait until the following Tuesday evening before she could fix it. I asked if the owner could come in and help because again I have a party to go to and I just can't go with it like this. She again was very rude and went and left a message for the owner. She said "you're just going to have to wait till Joyce calls back and I don't know when that will be so you might as well leave and I'll call you when or if she does. I mean she could be at a golf course today for all I know" Kind of shocked, I left the salon and called my boyfriend for advice. My boyfriend said I should not have to wait around all day hoping to get in and I should just get my money back and go somewhere else. So I went back in. The other stylist got Linda for me and I said I just don't think I'm going to wait around all day and asked if I could just get my money back so I could go to another salon. She wouldn't give me my money back. In front of everyone she acted hostile and told me that I needed to wait until she could fix it. Then she said, "fine I guess I need to call Joyce back and tell her not to come in." Then she proceeded to hand me my money back but it was minus the tip I gave her. I said what about the tip? She said "well you shouldn't have tipped me if you didn't like your hair." I said as nicely as can be "I tipped you because you said you would fix it today if I didn't like it." At that point Joyce called the salon and Linda asked her what to do. When she got off the phone she started crying. I tried telling her I have nothing against her and I didn't want her to feel bad and I was trying to console her. She got even nastier and said "don't console me". I said "why are you being like this, what did I do, I just want to get my hair fixed?" She threw the money at me and got up and said something nasty as she walked away. I am so flabbergasted at this situation. I have never had a problem with anyone in my life and was as nice as I could be in this situation. Needless to say I went in to another salon and they couldn't believe the mistakes. Luckily they were able to make it look good. read more

Do not go here! The owner doesnt acknowledge any customer in her shop, not even a smile, nothing! Not to mention an "I dont care" attitude. And definitely do not use Linda as your hair stylist. She was a great disappointment. Just to mention, I have been with Linda for over a year. The last incident was that she highlighted my hair and the color bled plus I wasn't satisfied with the overall results. Instead of fixing the color bleed that same day she sent me home telling me to come back if it bothers me. Well, it bothered me once I pulled my hair back because it was very noticeable. It took several days to get an appointment with her and she seemed bothered. I should be the one bothered but I stayed nice about it. Before I came in to have Linda fix the color bleed I also mentioned I needed her to correct my coloring, too. Well, I get to the salon and Linda fixes the bleed. As I begin to tell her how I didn't like the outcome of the highlights she got very defensive and rude. Even told me what I was saying, "made no sense.". I should've walked out but I didn't. I'm thinkng she"ll take care of me but instead tells me she has no time today for me. What?! I told her before I came in that I needed her to fix my coloring. She should have made time for me. About a week passes and I call Linda. (Knowing I left upset she should have gotten in contact with me.). I tell her I really need her to fix my coloring she has the nerve to tell me I waited too long and now I have to pay for the highlights again. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! Was she serious?! She preceded to tell me her work is too good and she's reasonably priced and she can't afford to give me a discount. I have never asked for discounts but being her regular client and being unhappy makes reason for it. Really, she shouldve corrected it for free! Linda knew all along how unhappy I was with the highlights. She let me walk instead if making it right. She would rather lose a client than swallow her pride and do what's morally right. Well, she lost this client. And, I bet the owner has no idea either. Oh well, their loss. Trust me! There are plenty of other stylists and salons... do not settle. read more

When my old hair dresser moved I had to find someone new. It took 6 months but I found a great stylist, Linda, YEAH!!!!!! Headlines Salon is a great place for all ages and reasonably priced. There are "older" ladies with their weekly appts of styling and spraying (reminds me of my grandmother and her friends) BUT there is also a young group of clients and stylists. I tried two places in North Bay before I found Holly at Headlines. I'm very picky and kinda shy about asking for what I want. Holly worked with me to make sure she was clear on what I wanted before she started and she does exactly what we discussed...no surprises. She keeps track of my color so I dont have to worry about how that is going to look each time. Holly is so friendly and even came in on her day off once to give me a cut and color when I forgot to make an appointment before my vacation! It may not be the fanciest Marin salon but I haven't found friendlier service and or a higher quality cut and color anywhere else! read more

I've been going to Headlines for a little over a year now. I went for the first time because I got that 50% off coupon that is mailed out regularly for new clients. I always go to Karen, she is great! She spends the time to really cut your hair the way you want it, is open to customer input and changes during the cut, and is appreciative of the business your give her. She does a wonderful job, even without any pictures to go off of! I work at Anthropologie and ladies always compliment my funky little hair cuts. Last week I got feathers put in and they look great! Agree with comments above - ignore complaining older ladies (We'll be there someday hopefully!) and get a great haircut and highlight for significantly less than other high-end salons around town. Headlines is great. I have only gone twice and I have been satisfied. I am growing my hair out after bleaching it for years- so I have just gone for boring hair cuts. I have had Holly cut my hair and she couldn't be sweeter. Very nice girl, gives a great shampoo and scalp massage, and she actually listens to what I want! Last time I went in and I really wasn't feeling well- I was getting over a cold and I just wanted to get my hair cut and get out of there- Holly totally got it and left me alone and did her fabulous thing!! ( I hope I wasn't rude) Parking is a pain and you have to get street parking. I'm used to a very high end posh kind of salon, and Headlines is definitely not it- but if you're looking for a great cut or color, Holly at Headlines it is! read more

Went to have a trim with Joyce and I'm super bummed with the results. To be fair, my friend with short hair who recommended her has had great experiences with her. She was nice enough i guess, if a little curt, but I really feel as though she didn't listen to me at all when I was telling her what I wanted. (Just a little trim with a few inches of layering, I had some splits but my hair is very healthy overall). She shows me how much she wants to trim off to make it healthy and it's about 3/4 of an inch. I say great, then she proceeds to take 3+ inches off as a base. This after I repeatedly said how I don't want much taken off. Then once she's done I have to remind her that I wanted the layers. The result is a super basic bitch hair cut that barely covers my shoulder blades when it used to reach the small of my back. I have a feeling I'll be really frustrated whenever styling my hair for months to come. :(. Oh well, live and learn. Never going there again! read more

I have been going to see Holly at Headlines for almost 7 years now. First discovered the salon with a groupon deal, and have been going ever since. I don't live in Marin county anymore but still make the trip out to ensure my haircut will look beautiful. I have frizzy, dry, thick, dry and sometimes unmanageable waves. Holly is the only hair stylist who has ever worked with my curly/wavy hair and cuts it's just right to avoid that Christmas tree layered look. Throughout the years, I've cut it short and medium and styled long layers, bangs and all and Holly always does an amazing job bringing my vision to light. She's kind and fair and always ensures you're happy with the result, or you can come back in the next weeks and get a complimentary fix up. 10 out of 10 stars for Holly, I highly recommend! read more

She takes time and REALLY LISTENS, so many do not, to what you want/what you do not want. if for some reason, never happened to me, your hair isn't just right after you do your own hair at home, she is most willing/wanting you to come back to get it right! i love the salon itself. i feel like i'm visiting a bunch of friends in a happy, fun and comfy place....no shishi here! and when i leave, i am uplifted, no matter what my mood was when i arrived. oh ya, AND, a fantastic manicurist is there!!!
