I'm a long time client that is sad to discover and say the core of this business proved to be lazy, unprofessional, and inconsiderate to the voice of the client. For the details of such an unfortunate judgment, you can read my novel to follow: I felt urged to start a Yelp account just to shed light on this bad situation. I've strictly gone to HeadGames salon for haircuts and color since I moved to CA in 2008. They had always offered reasonable prices, a good setting, and were convienently up the street from my house. At one point they had a great team, with Crystal as manger, Trish, Cat, and Robert. Recently they switched locations, only Robert remains from the former and I made the gamble to go in on a day when he was off. My stylist was the owner herself, Debbie, and to my surprise (being the owner and all) I did not find my experience to be satisfactory, nor professionally conducted. My only goal was to blend in the dark blonde growing in by adding low lights throughout, then to trim the dead ends. Not too extensive but I came in willing to pay about $120 for that weave (a hair expense splurge for me). Owner sits me down and as I start to explain what I am looking for, she seems to be half-listening with her own interpretation already in mind. She takes a thin slice off the top layer of my hair, places the foils and then says, "Ok, now we just need to wait 40 min." I politely mentioned that I thought there would be need for more foils throughout my hair. She dismissed me with a smile and explained, "No this top layer will lay over the gold blonde and cover it up. Then we'll just put in some toner for the remainder of your hair." I continued to protest, " I always wear my hair half up in a barret. I would like the low lights to be consistent. Not just cover up." She sang a song over mine that the toner would work well and all will be perfect! Then she ran to her laptop for that 40 min. duration, which I now assume to have been her greater interest than the effort it would have been to place in more foils (that I was willing & expecting to pay for)! Result: a nicely done layer of dark blonde lowlights intermingled with my natural hair color... plopped over the old, slightly tinged, golden blonde. After the blow dry was complete, she and her husband shared the chorus that it looks so lovely, and shiny. Clearly it was incomplete. I was so uncomfortable with their dismissive flattery and confused as to why a service that costs More was refused. I was quite disappointed and just wished to pay (which-good news! was $95 as oppose to $120), and poiletly dodge out with the knowledge gained not to return. When discussing with friends that I need to find a professional and reliable place for hair care to fix what was started, I decided that I felt I should be refunded for the color (not the trim, trim was fine). Honestly, as this story may have already revealed, I can be quite the pushover. It was difficult for me to call and voice my complaint and when I did so two days after the appointment, I spoke to Debbie, explained it was not what I had asked for and would like a refund strictly for the color portion (not the cut, since that would be unfair of me. The cut, again, was fine). She seemed disappointed and confused and asked if I would be willing to go in at 10:30 AM the next morning to let her look at it. I agreed though I shouldn't have since I didn't trust her to tamper with my hair further; I'm just uncomfortable all-around now. So here we are, that morning was today! I was ready to walk out the door at 10 when I received a call from an unknown number. The caller said that she is Nicole, daughter of Debbie and manager of the salon. Her attitude was nearly hostile to begin with as she explained her mother will not be in after all but she herself could fix it come 1 PM today (nice last minute notice, first of all, secondly, her tone was anything but amiable). She bluntly stated that they will not be refunding me, "We don't do that!" When I tried to explain the situation to this very bias third party, she was quite aggressive and flat-out rude. Safe to say, I lost a relationship with that whole establishment and in a few minutes, I will be searching through Yelp reviews to find a new start somewhere else. read more

Crystal at Headgames Salon is amazing. And affordable ($25 for a cut, $35 cut/dry). And she listens and will do what you ask. She is super sweet and informative (and uses great products, like Moroccan Oil). I just needed a trim, so I looked around for some place under $60 (that was not a "cost cutters" type of place) and I'm sooo lucky that I found Crystal. Even though I only needed a trim, I would go back there for a full style re-do. She knows her stuff, including coloring, and is very up-to-date on current hair cutting trends and definitely cuts hair as well as anyone I've had at a "ritzy" salon. She just refuses to charge more than what she would pay for a hair cut. read more

I'd been shopping Groupon for a decent haircut weeks, without much luck. I stopped in Headgames on a whim. Robert gave me the best haircut I've had in years. And their regular price is better than a groupon any day. He styled my hair, and the compliments have poured in. He's got a great sense of humor too. This company has been in this shop for 17 years. Great, great, great!!! I have been going in here for a men's haircut, nothing fancy. Top service grooming and fair prices. I was going to the downtown cheap military barbershops and would always get butchered. Now, I walk out with a crisp, not scalped, neat and clean cut. Everyone there has cut my hair. Nicole, Deb, Chris and Robert are all professional, with a good attitude and never let me walk out until the last hair is perfectly in place. Only a few more $ for a lot more grooming. Easy to find, easy parking, easy on the wallet. I recommend that you make an appointment and look like a "Super Lotto" winner. You will not be disappointed. read more

I wrote a review for Headgames Salon back in 2016 because I'm so happy with her service--and have been for years, but my review was filtered out as "unacceptable." How bizarre. Of course, every Yelp reviewer is biased--we cannot escaped our biases. Bias is the business model of Yelp! LOL. Regardless, I'll try to be more specific. I'm huge on customer service and quality. And, because I've been going to Headgames for about six or seven years, I want my voice heard. Nicole is not only a great person, funny, interesting, kind, but she's consistently helped me and my fine, frizzy, curly, aging, and thinning hair. Additionally, she does great color. On my own, I'd self-colored my hair into a corner, going darker and darker brown over time, eventually going so black, by 45, it wasn't so cute anymore. Considering my new growth was also white, contrasting like a skunk. My natural color has been brown, white, and grey since my late twenties, early thirties). Going from dyed black to light brown/dark blonde would have been a nightmare on my own (hello orange). Through highlights, lowlights, color, and cuts, Nicole helped (over about three appointments over about 12 weeks) take me to a 7, which I now love. When the brown, white, and grey new growth respond to the light brown/dark blonde 7 dye on only my roots, I have natural looking highlights! The new growth isn't so "skunky" because the dyed hair is much lighter. Whew. I'm still no hair model, but Nicole helped me do the best with what I've got. Thank you! read more
