It had an in - room kettle tea/coffee biscuits, a tv that was a bit of a challenge to get to work and it was so quiet. So the tv is tuned to open at a menu featuring N'flix and it took a minute to realise I had to click along several boxes to reach the tv icon so it's no longer simple just to put on the tv. Our deal included dinner. We had a one course main so opted to pay €7.5 up charge for 10oz sirloins. The food was delicious and the portions generous. Each main included chips, but we held one back as we knew we simply wouldn't eat that much food and we really dislike food waste. While they had English mustard they didn't have the finest - Colman's. Breakfast was pretty good particularly if you are sausage bacon and egg inclined. Most of my breakfast was made from scratch and tasty. There's no fresh fruit, no cold meats, no fish (I realise this is my first visit and the owners will know what works at breakfast and I've been in higher star hotels that don't offer fish) and the mini croissants and mini chocolate croissants do really need re thought and upgraded. I'm aware too that myopic politicians in the country are deliberately punishing small hotels, outside the capital, by taxing hospitality to give the multi national hotel operators a punch in the nose for mercenary price gouging much of which is disgraceful. All the staff were genuinely friendly and the hotel environment was delightful. Hope to return.

Couldn't get away from the place quick enough. Walked into the carvery at 12.26pm and 6-8 staff stood at the other end of the room. Carvery doesn't open till 12.30pm and I'm not sure how it works - do I seat myself? Do I get seated? No idea. And if I hadn't shouted down the restaurant at the staff, I'd still be standing there none the wiser. I'd been reassured by the woman at the front desk that their carvery was 'the best,' the meat was delicious and juicy, but beyond that it was rough going. Breakfast wasn't much better - and again, no one was particularly helpful about how the system worked. Lots of staff, just not very helpful. Room was absolutely freezing (in May!). There was a bright light from a corridor across the alleyway beaming into the room all night, and the walls were paper thin so it was loud all night, the room phone kept making an audible dial tone so I had to disconnect it. For the price, I wasn't thrilled at all.

Our package includes a 30 minute spa treatment plus 3 course dinner for 150 euro, which was pretty good. My scrub/massage was awesome, felt refreshed! Dinner was delicious! It was amazing! They even have a hair salon! You really don't need to leave the hotel over your stay as there are plenty of options to eat. The Botanic restaurant or the Cellar Bar (or room service) have got plenty of choice on their menus. It all comes from the same kitchen anyway. I was so impressed with the buffet breakfast. So much to choose from! Probably the biggest buffet breakfast I have ever seen in a hotel. Fried, scrambled and boiled eggs to choose from! The staff are very helpful and friendly too. I couldn't have asked for more. I really enjoyed my stays here (3 times in 2 years) I recommend it highly and I know I'll go back again.

Why, I hear you cry, poor food? Nope. Cold dinner? Nope. A bug in my spuds? Nope. You will never guess.... The portions were just too enormous even for a large bellied hippopotamus like me, actually I think the whole thing was a trick of some kind, conjuring gone haywire?? Maybe a fairytale like the magic porridge pot that kept overflowing with porridge...well the spuds just kept on coming, never in my greedy piggy wiggy life did I leave such a size of spuds left on my plate. Sob. Is it all over for me? Have I turned into one of those people who say 'Oh I just eat 2 squares of chocolate at a time'......2 SQUARES?? Feckin lunatics. This was a great dining experience, you had to wait just the right amount of time so you know the food if cooked fresh and it arrived in all its humongous glory well presented, hot and delicious. I had the salmon with champ, carrot and parsnip mash with garlic buttered prawns, very tasty indeed. The boss opted for the Downshire burger (half a cow) and chips with a massive pile of salad on the side. Phew! It was well worth the visit. The other BIG plus in my book is a clean bathroom, and this place had the wonderful aroma of mild bleach as soon as you open the bathroom door, this cannot be beaten in my book in public restrooms, cleanliness is next to Godliness my mum used to say (usually when scrubbing my two dirty paws with carbolic soap) A great spot for a meal, centrally located on the main Street in Banbridge and free parking behind.

The food is also lovely, however the last time i had food here was about 2 years ago. Would recommend for a night out.

And events at the hotel can be loud when you're looking for some peace and quiet in Dundalk. Breakfast was included with our room but it wasn't very impressive - some fried eggs gone cold on a buffet, limited healthy choices otherwise. Unfortunately, I had some bad luck when it came to my stay. When my plug adapter went missing, the hotel provided one. However, it didn't work. By the time I figured that out, it was too late at night to roll down to reception for another one so I just made do. A wedding at the event space meant that drunk partygoers were roaming the hotel grounds, singing and yelling, until the wee hours of the morning. Although I had booked a non-smoking room, and although I was thrilled that the window and balcony door could be opened to let in fresh air, my neighbor decided to smoke on his balcony (continuously) until 3 am. In a desperate attempt for sleep, I called the front desk. Once, the call rang without answer. And on the second try, they hung up on me. Great service and help, guys. I probably wouldn't stay here again.

The bathroom alone is larger than most rooms-particularly my last room in the UK. The gym was decently equipped and there is a wonderful heated indoor pool, with a jacuzzi and sauna. I passed by a very lively bar area that goes until midnight I'm told. About to try the food. Breakfast was buffet style but everything replenished regularly and very fresh and delicious. Freshly fried eggs available how you like them. I have to mention that with all the positives, a couple of caveats. There is a golf course and working farms in the area. I was awakened each morning quite early by noises from surrounding properties. Lastly, I had the Di Not Disturb sign in my door but housekeeping went in anyway. I was told that calls to the room were made, a manager was notified and a supervisor accompanied the cleaning person. I was told this was policy. So, lesson learned. Let the hotel know in advance that you will not want room to be serviced.

Further, the people working here seemed a bit downtrodden and less friendly than the other hotels I have stayed in Ireland. I think this place would be better rated as a 3 star hotel in its current state, but with a bit more love and care, I can see this hotel being restored back to its original glory.
