I've been going to Bayou City Barbershop for about 2 years now. Yesterday I had the opportunity to try out their newest Barber named Tray. He was awesome! Not only is he great with the clippers but you should experience what he does with the shears! He does it all: fades, shaves, partitions, texturizes hair and uses the thinning shears like no other for those heavy hair volume areas. As far as the shop; it's more than you would expect. Happening part of town with people walking everywhere. Good beats inside the shop, cool beer while you wait and great conversation! Very cool ambiance. My boyfriend began coming here after he had enough from a high-end men's salon he would go to that never produced consistent results. Prices are good (less than the salon!) and more importantly: the cuts have always been excellent (thank you, Mike "Fresh"!). I sat in once, and all the barbers produced outstanding work. Update to my previous bad experience. Decided to give this place another try as I was badly in need of a haircut in the downtown area. Booked an appointment with Jonathan Murillo and got in the chair with no issues this time. He hooked me up! Spent plenty of time on my hair and I was very happy with results. This place usually goes by appointment but they managed to squeeze me in! I was in town for a wedding and needed a quick edge up and Instead I found one of the best barber shops I've ever visited. This is a very nice barber shop. Nice decor. Pleasant atmosphere. And very trendy. But as far as dealing with Black Beard's. Not so good. I would not recommend this place. From what I experienced they are not equipped to trim a black man's beard. But if you have straight hair great place. They also have some very good products read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I had an appointment with Mike Fresh at 4:00. I showed up at 3:50. Mike had a picky customer that lasted till 4:15. While waiting NEARLY 25 MINUTUES. Mike picked up a walk in over a customer who had an appointment and waited 25 minutes. WHATEVER you do, DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT WITH MIKE.... I stopped in for a cut while visiting Houston because of the high ratings. I wasn't disappointed! Appointments are strongly recommended. Despite not having an appointment they took me in after a very short wait. It's been years since I've had a cut that good and expertly trimmed with a straight razor. Very classy and very well done. The attention to detail was impressive so I see why they do appointments. The decor is rustic yet hip Texas with a rock music vibe and is very welcoming. Walk ins are not always welcome for the record. They need to take that off their website. Too many barbers are not how they use to be back in the day where you walk in and wait your turn. Wether it's your day off and you want to walk in do not come here. Even if that's what they claim on their website. One of the barbers asked me, "Did you ask?" Great find in Houston. Really convenient location, made the appointment just a couple hours before on their website. Didn't take anytime at all to get there get fixed up and be on my way. Inside was really chill and relaxing. Guys were super friendly and they all said hello. Mike got me trimmed up and clean up with a nice haircut and a beard trim. I have only written one other review on Yelp so perhaps this shows the level of ridiculous this place is. I went the first time after making an appointment online. I waited between 30- 45 minutes for Jonathan to get to me. The way-too-loud bad rap music made the wait way worse than it had to be. I would have gotten up and left however I needed a haircut for an event that night. I asked for a bald fade. That's it. Leave the top alone. When he finished he had shaved all but the top completely clean- NO FADE! A month or so later, I made another appointment online with Mike. I showed up on time (just like last time) and waited 30 minutes with no one to come up to me to say "Sorry about the wait I'm running late" or even "Come back at this time and I could get you in". After waiting 30 minutes, listening to blaring rock music and different music from the jukebox I just left. The whole rude, tough guy persona they got going on leaves no room for basic common customer service. I am so puzzled by my experience as this place gets good reviews, particularly the guys I had set up appointments with. But, if my experience was like this both times I went, it has to be more than a fluke. Don't chance it. read more

Then, another person hopped in ahead of me (presumably with an appointment), so I left.
