I thought I was getting a fluorescent light replaced for $300 but instead I got four bulbs installed for $300. I should have better examined the quote beforehand. My fault. HB didn't even dispose of the old bulbs. they left them on the garage floor. I would think after getting $300 for changing four bulbs they could at least dispose of the old bulbs. I absolutely love this company! This is the second time we've hired them and like the first visit, I couldn't be more thrilled with the work. We had a cable break at the end of our driveway that powers two lights. The found the break, replaced the line, put in a new conduit, and added some extra plugs for holiday lights. These guys are awesome!!! We had them out a year or so ago to work on some circuits that had gone bad. While Bryan was here he recognized that our panel was a model that had been recalled and gave us a bid (and NOT a high pressure sales approach) for replacing it. Wasn't in the budget at the time but we held onto it and called them up a year later and they honored the old bid and scheduled quickly and easily. Between when we scheduled and when they came out we had a few other things go wrong (a baseboard heater and an outlet went out). When Briley and Alena come out they replaced the panel we had originally asked for and got the other issues resolved without any extra cost to me! They also noticed an outdoor outlet that was in bad shape so they fixed that while they were at it too. I can't say enough good things. Briley and Alena were friendly, easy to work with, kind to my dog, respectful of my space and my home and really informative and knowledgeable. I called to get a quote to replace a chandelier that was on a vaulted ceiling and I didn't have a ladder to reach that high. I did submit for a quote, they got back to me rather quickly and so I called their office. The gal that answered the phone was great, gave me the quote and then could actually fit me in their schedule in 2 days. Brylie and Austin showed up about 15 minutes early, assessed what they needed and got right to work. After extensive research we decided to go with HB Electric for our whole house rewire because of the great reviews and competitive bid. Overall we were pleased with their work and would hire them again, especially given the savings compared to other electric companies. Bryan and Kate were both wonderful to work with. Their office has some of the best customer service I've ever encountered. Every question was answered quickly and with so much patience and grace. No matter the request they always wanted to make sure it was done right. At one point I contacted Bryan with a small list of tweaks toward the end of the project, and he made sure they were all worked out at no additional charge. Truly 5/5 service. However there were a few hiccups during the install that make this a 4/5 review overall. We found that, compared to the work being done on our house by other contractors (full kitchen remodel), the electrical areas were never cleaned up. We found nails, wire scraps, chunks of drywall, wood shavings, etc. all over every inch of our house, our garage, and our garden beds. There were also a number of changes made to outlet, light, and switch placement that were never communicated to us. They were happy to fix those errors when requested (excellent customer service!) but that required extra patching of the holes they created or, in some cases, just living with the change. Two areas of our home that had lights no longer do, a two-switch hallway was changed to only have one switch, etc. These small hiccups weren't massive on their own, but taken together got a little frustrating. Additional attention to detail or oversight of the on-site electrician by Bryan probably could have made our experience even better. Overall the great customer service and competitive pricing would make us recommend HB Electric, but be prepared to communicate clearly and deep clean your space after the project concludes. read more

I recently had my 1926 home rewired and hired this company. To start off, I have to say they did an amazing job! While deciding who to hire at the beginning, they made it really easy. From the owner, the walk through, how detailed the estimate was (down to the line items), the office staff as well as the electricians that came out to perform the job - everything was done very nicely. I have to admit, I am picky with my plaster walls and I know it's not an easy task to work with (as I wasn't planning on gutting the place). Their ability and skill to reuse the old placements was fantastic. Cutting 93 year old plaster is no easy job. The areas that they did have to cut into, they tried to patch them as well as they could - AND, there were not many! The team showed up on time and the owner was also present here and there during the home rewire. The electricians were personable, friendly, courteous and cleaned up every day before they left. The first day of the rewire we had an issue which turned out to be a connection from the transformer into the house. They made sure to stay until Tacoma Power was able to fix it, which I appreciate immensely. I would and will hire this team of electricians again because I trust their work and they fix any issues that come up. I think that they are very decently priced and do one heck of a job! I needed to get some old wiring replaced in my recently-purchased house. I sent out lots of quote requests, received very few responses, and narrowed my choice down to HB and one other contractor. Brian came out to my house and provided an estimate that was thousands of dollars lower than the other quote, and was more thorough. I went with HB for my project and I'm glad I did. Brian and his assistant completed the project in exactly the amount of time that was estimated. He did adjust his initial estimate upward after discovering some additional details he missed in his initial quote, but the price increase was fair considering the amount of extra work it entailed. Throughout the process, I was kept in the loop with project updates, the project was completed on time, and my house was left in great condition (minus a few holes in the drywall, which I was told to expect early on in the process). All in all, this was a great contractor experience and I'll definitely be looking at HB for any future electrical work. read more

We've used Bryan for two separate jobs (on our 100 year old, original whack electrical job of a house) now and with each visit, we have been very impressed with his work and personality. He does good work and we feel his prices are fair. He is also thoughtful of doing extra things (at no additional cost). Example, he gave us an option, if we wanted to buy an electric heater to put on our living room wall, he would put it in for us at no extra charge as he'd already be exposing that part of the wall anyway. (We decided not to do it but the fact he asked, yet alone even thought about it as an option, speaks for his workmanship). I cannot thank this company enough! We recently moved and needed a whole house rewire we were not expecting. They were honest and the work they did was outstanding. It was upsetting to hear one company tell us that the work couldn't be done without tearing our whole house apart and spending an astronomical amount of money. We always hired him in the past. But not anymore. We hired him this last time to install 4 ceiling fan boxes so we could put ceiling fans up with connected wall light switches, replace an under cabinet light, and replace a dryer plug. He came on 3 different days over 6 weeks - which was very displeasing because he didn't tell us he would be doing it that way. He was supposed to put in new connected wall light switches on all of the new ceiling fan boxes, but only did it on half of them, and instead disconnected the wall plug outlets from the existing light switch and hooked them up to the new ceiling fan boxes he installed without telling or asking us. We actually really liked the top plug receptacles hooked up to the light switch for easy turning on/off of lamps which is why we wanted new, additional, switches for the ceiling fans, but now they no longer work. We contacted them about this, but he has not responded. Then, when it was time to pay, he pulled the classic "oops, I accidentally doubled the price" move. He immediately corrected the price when asked. We've had this happen with others in the past. They double the price, "exactly", to see if they can get it, and if you call them out on it, then they claim it was a math error, hoping you'll believe them because it's "exactly" double, and play off the oddity of that. Yes, this is a trick that happens, and in our experience, it has always been an owner/operator that does it. We've renovated 7 properties in 3 states from coast to coast, over the past 15 years and have come across this a few times. The average homeowner may not catch it or even know to look out for it, but when you've been hiring service men repeatedly for over a decade, you're bound to run into it. We're always disgusted when someone does this, but in this case, we're also disappointed, as we were hoping to keep him on our "go to list" as an electrician for our next renovation. read more

I would give HB Electric 10 stars if I could. Bryan, Austin, Kelly, and Jenn are Team Extraordinaire. Nothing about the project was simple, but they made it seem like it was. Our old family home was long overdue for a complete rewire. The original part of the house dates from 1900 and the newer part was constructed in 1950, with several instances of add-on electrical since. It contains custom woodwork, built-in fixtures whose wiring is no longer entirely accessible, brick fireplaces, wallpaper in some rooms, thin wallboard covered with plaster in others, and further challenges I'm sure I'm forgetting. Several new outlets had to be added throughout, in order to bring it up to code. They did a beautiful job on every cutout, never botching a single one. In addition to all new internal wiring, we needed a new service panel, ceiling-mounted radiant heating panels installed in every room, new thermostats, new ceiling fans, new exterior lights, and even a new electrical lead run the entire length of the attic and out the other end to service a detached barn. Whenever it seemed like something was about to be impossible, these guys managed to devise an ingenious solution to overcome whatever the obstacle was. All in all, it turned out to be two full weeks of work for 2-plus guys, with some weekend work and some overtime days. The scheduling was complicated for various reasons, which required them to pull off the job from time to time and then return several days later. In short, there was no way Bryan could know in advance all the issues they would confront. It could have been a nightmare of change orders. Yet he delivered us a detailed estimate at the outset, was flexible whenever necessary, went above and beyond to make things happen - and didn't charge us a penny more than contract at the end. HB Electric was a true pleasure to work with, and we were thrilled with the results. It's been slightly over a year now since the work was done and everything is still functioning flawlessly.
