There are stadiums... and then there are places that feel like they've been stitched into the soul of a sport. Hayward Field is the latter. I've always had a soft spot for this place. Maybe it's the ghosts of greatness knowing that Steve Prefontaine once tore across this very track with that fearless, front-running style. Maybe it's my love for everything University of Oregon the culture, the pride, the legacy. Or maybe it's just the way this place sits in Eugene like it belongs there, like it's earned its keep. But this visit hit different. We'd been out the night before one of those reckless, laugh-too-hard, probably-made-a-few-bad-decisions kind of nights. I woke up feeling like absolute trash. The kind of morning where your body is negotiating terms just to sit upright. But instead of folding, I dragged myself out to Hayward Field. And I ran. Not pretty. Not fast. Just honest. A few laps turned into more. Sweat started pouring, lungs opened up, and somewhere between the pain and the rhythm, something shifted. It was like the bad decisions from the night before were getting wrung out of me, step by step. A full-on purge. I'll be real there was a moment I thought I might throw up right there on sacred ground. But then the endorphins hit. And just like that I was back. Energy. Clarity. Fire. I went from wanting to crawl back into bed to feeling like I could take on the whole day. "Let's go fly," I said. "Let's go do something." That's what this place does it resets you. It brought me back to the last time I was here for the Eugene Marathon. That race... man. Grinding up hills, coasting through valleys, pushing through every doubt you've got and then finally coming back into Hayward Field. You hear your name, see your time, get that medal placed around your neck... it's more than a finish line. It's a moment you carry with you. This place is known as TrackTown, USA for a reason. It's hosted Olympic Trials, world-class competitions, and some of the best athletes to ever lace up a pair of running shoes. But beyond all the accolades, records, and history... it's personal. Because yeah I love the wild nights, the stories, the chaos. But places like this remind you of something just as important: take care of yourself. Move your body. Earn your breath. Even if you made a few bad calls the night before. So if you're in Eugene don't just drive by. Walk it. Run it. Feel it. You might show up feeling broken... and leave feeling like the king of the world. read more

This is it and this is it so much that it sits in the middle of properly named "Track Town USA" Eugene, Oregon on the UO campus. This is a stop for our USA Olympic track and field hopefuls year after year: It is an incredibly beautiful stadium that you can even see from the outside. read more

There are no words to describe the experience of watching your child compete on this stage. This field is unbelievable. The entrance is breathtaking and overwhelming. You know you are stepping onto the place where greatness has happened and could happen again. The facilities are decorated to perfection. Even the duck murals in the restrooms are breathtaking. The seats are the most comfortable of any stadium, cushioned and adequately spaced. It was a dream come true to be invited here and watch great athletes. read more

Hayward field is the most impressive athletic facility/track field I have ever seen. It is a magical moment stepping foot in here. The stadium itself is a work of art. I have been to various track meets and running events here including the Olympic track trials, Prefontaine classic, Eugene marathon, and UO collegiate events. It's huge but pretty easy to navigate. They have some impressive concessions like a waffle place, brewery cart, hot dog stand, and more. Hayward field is a quintessential Track town experience and something everyone should see at least once. read more

Absolutely stunning athletic venue! As someone who's never watched or been interested in track and field before living in Eugene, I can tell you that it's worth your while to check this place out. Even if there isn't an event to see, I'd highly recommend walking through Hayward Hall, a museum explaining the history of Hayward Field and why Eugene is "TrackTown USA." (You can find the entrance to the museum near the base of the silver tower.) read more

A classic location if there ever was one for those who follow the track & field scene. Even if you don't follow, there's much to celebrate at Hayward. The historic wooden stands created an impressive visual, but the magic really happens between the lines. All good things must apparently get renewed I guess. With the "reimagine" it'll certainly be more space-age, but the old location will always live in our hearts. Locals probably are numb to how cool it is to watch something on ESPN and then drive 10 mins to finish watching it live. That isn't lost on us, and thinking of the many world champions who've passed though in a century makes the new field bittersweet. Come see some world-class competition at Hayward. At least now there are more seats. read more

Hayward Field did not disappoint! I enjoyed watching the World Championships here. We had tickets it what seemed to be a section added just for this event because I couldn't find it on the seating map prior to arriving. The seats were good. I still felt like I was apart of the event! The bathrooms were spacious and clean considering the number of people there. read more

Hayward Field is on the University if Oregon campus in Eugene, OR. This is where they hold the NCAA track and field championships. How lucky it is that they are hosted here so Oregonians don't have to travel very far to attend. If you have never had a chance to attend this and enjoy track and field....check it out. It's not only fun but the enthusiasm is exhilarating. The field is very well kept, green and beautiful. It is gated with beautiful iron gates so that when the fields not in use for events the campus goers are the only ones to use it for the most part. There is word that the U of O is adding more bleacher space as well since that seems to be one if the biggest issues with attending events here. 2016-7 read more

The world famous Hayward Field was TOTALLY WICKED! I have seen it in TV many times but being there in person was surreal. I love the track and field enthusiasts that have reserved seats in the stadium no matter the event. There were cool rituals/traditions like clapping for the runners on the back straight and stomping the wooden stands during the races. Curious to see the remodeled version but I liked the current version! read more

The best place in the world to see Track and Field. Period. Great sight lines. Wonderful, historic grandstands. Well laid out facility so you can see all the events easily. The crowd is knowledgeable and is really involved in the sport--it's fun to hear all the reactions, they know what is going on. I've got in lots of conversations about track with my seating neighbors that are really fun, these people are friendly and are totally into it. And I've been fortunate to have seen some fantastic races there. Andrew Wheating winning the first NCAA championship 800-1500 double in 25 years; three Oregon runners sweeping the 800 in the Olympic trials; the best 4x400 I've ever seen with Oregon and Texas A&M down to the wire. Oregon track fans, you are so lucky. Everyone else, track fan or not, you really should make the trip just to see what this is about. 11,000 screaming fans might convince you to be a track fan. And that's a good thing! read more

take sunscreen and an umbrella. What appears to be roof covering is actually fairly minimal. The "new one" may be glitzy, but the old one was better, and more appropriately sized for a relatively small city. ...and most Oregonians could not care less about track, contrary to prevalent false advertising. They all have world class track & field stadiums that host an IAFF Diamond League meet every year. For a relatively small city, Eugene sports an enthusiastic track & field fan base.
