I have used Hay Tire Charleston location for years and have always been satisfied BUT today things changed. I made a 9am appointment for just a tire rotation and balance. I dropped it off at 8:35am and was told they close at 1 on Saturdays and should receive a call before 1 to pick car up. At 11:30 I assumed the car was finished and they forgot to call so I just head down to pick it up I arrived and was told they never got to my car. No sorry how can we make this up just a " we ran out of tome". Why was I given an appointment for 9 am if they couldn't do a simple task. I have 3 cars that they replace tires on. Im writing about the poor service and incompetence at that location. I'm the Fleet manager for a bus service that supports the VA and Veterans. I took the bus to Phill for a belt and tensioner two weeks ago. I was told 3 times that the work was done and every time it wasn't the service manager could care less about completing the work. They left the bus open hood up and keys on the radiator in the parking lot and went home. The total disregard of service is appalling. It's been two weeks and the bus is still not finished. I went to check up on the bus today and was told they can't do it after two weeks of doing nothing, leaving the bus open tools out and keys on the radiator. Brought a tire in to have a screw removed from it and have it mounted back on the car. From the moment we walked through the door, we felt pressured to buy a new tire. The tire WAS fine and able to be repaired, much to their dismay. But just wait. We're told it will take 45 mins to 1 hour to fix it. Fine, there are other people ahead of us. We wait. We wait more than an hour. Probably at about the hour mark, the 'technician' drives the car back. We watched it happen. About 10 mins later, the 'technician' comes from the back and tells the counter guy that he messed up. We heard it. About another 5-7 mins later, the counter guy and the 'technician' roll the tire into the waiting room and it now has a bubble in the side wall. The 'technician' OVER INFLATED the tire and f'ed it up! The counter guy tries to tell us that it's our fault that the tire is so old and that they've been working on it for 30-45 minutes and the lies just keep coming. Told us the 'technician' took it off the rim to repair. It was a simple pull the screw out and put a worm in repair. (IT happened to our golf cart literally the day prior).He told us they 'repair the tire from the inside.' Uh huh. It was outrageous. Then he offers to order us a new tire that would be there the next day. We watched, from the waiting room, the tire deliveries happen frequently. Was very impressed with this business. I had called because I unfortunately found a screw in my tire and the gentleman was kind and said bring it in. He also said it would be about an hour for the service (which I appreciated knowing since I had to get to work). Upon arrival I was greeted and checked in right away. The gentleman who checked me in was wonderful and friendly. I was there a little over an hour and thankfully they were able to patch it for $26. I was so relieved and grateful. I am so glad they were able to take me and get me situated so I didn't miss work! I highly recommend this location and giving them a shot. I showed up a little early 0840, which thats on me. My truck didn't move until 1003 when I asked what time it was going to be finished. I was told about a half hour longer. I have been here for THREE hours now and still no truck, no update, and no apologies. I've talked to two other customers and they both said their service was terrible as well. Took a 2016 Jeep Wrangler to get four new tires installed. The tech was incredibly rude when I asked roughly how long the service would take to complete. Instead of providing me a rough time estimate he rattle off six reasons why it would be difficult to give me an estimate including the tires were 33" in size, the car is 10yrs old, lug nuts might be rusted (lug nuts are brand new),.... Never gave me a time estimate. Took the Jeep Wrangler home and the wheels were ridiculously out of balance and they installed weights on the outside of one of the rear wheels. Although I paid for a wheel balance, decided to pay another store to perform a second wheel balance. Very poor experience. read more

RICKY is the best! I'm a single girl by myself and completely clueless about car maintenance and prices so I'm always fearful of being taken advantage of at shops. But Ricky was so kind and calm (in the midst of a crazy busy office where other people were pissed and snappy and stressed). He remained easy going and reassuring. On vacation in Charleston, we got a flat. Since I have a brand new 2020 Honda Civic, I called the closest Honda dealership who wasn't willing to service a tourist needing help. My dealer at home would've fit us in. We limped into Hay Tire Pros and were met by Bill. He had his guys put on our spare and ordered the tire we needed. Bad experience. We were recommended to take our cars here by someone who's been going to Hay Tire store for 20 years. On one car we wanted to get the alternator and tires brakes fixed. I have another car that needed a new battery and the heater fixed. And another car that needs tires and brakes. So I was willing to give this new place a try. We took the first car in. With the most problems had the alternator and needed brakes. It took 3 days just to get the alternator. Then it took fourth day to complete the job. paid about $684 to only have the car die in front of Ye Olde Fashion. When the back shoropped while turning around to get back into the parking lot the car just fell on the ground. Never again. read more

They are very helpful and can make sure that you are taken care of whether it is a tire emergency or something less urgent. Our old family car was having issues. We popped into Hay Tire Pros because they had such great reviews.... well, we are pleased to add another rave review to the pile! Scott helped us and he and his team were incredible. They identified that we needed a certain part to fix the steering of our car - around $1200. This was a major bummer because finances have been tight for us recently. You can imagine how ecstatic and grateful we were to get another call from Scott letting us know the surprise news that the part they needed only cost a few hundred dollars and all in with labor would only be a little over $600. So nearly half of what was expected. We were floored by the care, honesty, expertise of Scott and his team. Particularly during a rough patch in our lives. I was sold a brand new tire that I discovered had a slow leak after it was on my car. When I went into the shop and told them, I was treated like I was the one who was causing a problem, rather than the other way around. Traveling to Charleston, had a leak in my tire. Had it since buying the truck. Had a "patch for a nail" done but kept having the issues and got worse traveling to Charleston and pulling a camper. Took the truck to Hay thinking I'd need a new tire as not wanting to deal with a leak anymore. They checked it out and found that no one ever found a valve stem problem/leak. They were honest and ethical and replaced the valve when they could have shamed me and gotten $293 for a new tire! Instead I payed $27! You DON'T see good old honesty and ethics like this anymore. Wish they had a business in my hometown like theirs, I'd use it as my tire place without question! any locals should use them! read more

I brought my car into the West Ashley Hay Tire store for the first time recently because I had a nail in my tire. I usually go to Gerald's but they're always so busy. After giving them my keys, 2 minutes later the salesman shows up and says "I have bad news, you need 4 new tires." I said "the tires are 3 years old." He said "but they were made in 2017." I was thinking this guy is full of it, because I took my car to get serviced last month, including tire rotation, and the dealership said nothing about the tires. I ask how much to fix the flat, and he said "your tires are so worn down, for insurance reasons we can't fix the flat." I leave, thinking I'll get a 2nd opinion and come back and apologize if he's telling the truth. I bring the car to the WA Gerald's who were too busy to see me that day, so they sent me to their North Charleston store. They fixed my flat for free. When they gave me the keys back I asked how much wear the tires had on them, and the guy said "oh, you've got a LOT of life left on those tires." My mother has always gone to Hay, and when I told her what happened she said "I think they did the same thing to me." If you have tires with 25,000 miles on them, and you want to spend $1200 on a set of tires you don't need, then you've found the right place! If you don't want to get ripped off, go elsewhere. Customer Service, Scott specifically, has no tact. He was argumentative regarding explaining about my requested tire rotation. I purchased road hazzard insurance on a new tire from them and asked if I could get it on the other 3 practically new tires. They agreed, took my money, and that was 2+ years ago. Been coming in for rotations which per what I paid were NC and required to maintain the warranty. So today Scott says, "We shouldn't have sold this, it's bad business, but we'll do the rotation." Little late Scott. Say it in an internal memo, but don't make me feel like your doing me a favor at this stage of the game. I've have a number of visits to Hay about past rotations. No one has felt motivated to make me feel guilty for something they sold me. Left a bad taste (Obviously) Jerk! Not to mention poor customer relations. read more

The men here are great at what they do. Phil was especially helpful and nice to work with. My car not only needed tires, but had a shimmy that shook the steering wheel. I, some years ago, had the same shimmy complaint and took my car somewhere else. I bought tires and made two trips to the other place, and never got rid of the shimmy. The guys at Hay Tire Pros not only sold me new tires, but managed to get rid of the annoying shimmy. The car now rides like a new car. Thank you all for your expertise and friendly service. Brought my truck in first thing in the morning to get my oil changed before our 8 hour road trip. Everyone we spoke with were all very friendly and helpful. Since it took about an hour to do the oil change, my fiancé and I wanted something to eat. The guys at the shop offered to give us a ride to Waffle House(no additional charge) and told us to call them when we were done eating and they'd send someone down to bring us back to the shop. We were promptly greeted, our problem was described, and our car taken for a test drive. It turned out that nothing was wrong. We were given an ink pen, a key ring, and told there was no charge. Waited almost 2 hours for an oil change. Bad customer service. It took almost 2 minutes to acknowledge me when I walked inside and, despite nobody being helped before me. Nobody updated me on the status of my car while I was waiting. I've seen comments on here from the owner stating their goal is 100% customer satisfaction. It is very evident that they are not trying hard to achieve that goal. My girlfriend had problems with her car from this place in the past and now I know it's not a coincidence. Very disappointed with my experience and definitely will not be coming back. Update: Even with the best intentions, no service organization is going to be perfect. I was critical of Hay Tire because of the poor service I received. However, I can tell that the owner does care about his customers. They both responded to my comments and wrote me a personal letter enclosed with a check. The refund wasn't requested, but it does show a genuine desire to service customers; even those that did not have a great experience. Given Hay Tires' recovery steps, I will certainly be giving them another chance in the future. read more

Saturday 7/16/16 I bought 4 tires off tirebuyers.com and had them shipped to a installer of my choice. I chose Hay Tire Pros because they did not charge for the TPMS Service Charge that the other installers were charging for and theirs install price of the tires was less expensive ($61.00). I will never come to this place again. First of all they never told me when they received my tires. Second of all I had to call multiple times to figure out when I come for an appointment. The guy told me "just come in tomorrow and we will get them installed right away after we open up at 7:30 am". So, I show up at this place at 7:30AM thinking I have a scheduled appointment. I get there only to have the guy (same guy talked to on the phone) tell me that they wouldn't be able to get to my truck until 3pm. A little before 12:30 I looked for my truck. I found it in the back in the air with the tires off. I thought oh thank you they went ahead and started working on my truck earlier than 3 pm so I should be out of here soon....4:30 i was finally handed my keys. Luckily I did not have to work today because I just spent 9hrs sitting and waiting for my truck to get a alignment, install 4 new tires and balance! They also tried charging me $88 for my tire installation and balance saying it's because I have bigger tires when the website said $61. The guy corrected that after I told him he was going to fix this. So yeah when you are trying to have your stuff done to your truck or car don't choose this place if you're on a crunch time! read more
