They have a delicious bloody mary and friendly bartenders! Their bar is roomy and a great place for group meet upsI can't wait to go back.

Solid place to grab a brew. Good people. Nice looking joint. Very fair prices. My new "go to" for the area.

Welcome to brewery #278 for me. I was very pleased with the vibe at Tangled Roots. Very nice place!…read more I sat at the bar and ordered a flight. Great service although they were a little busy. Los Pollos Hermanos Mexican lager was a good Mexican lager. Very easy to drink. Kit Kupfer amber ale had a little fruity flavor I couldn't quite place but when I looked at the beer menu it described it as "hint of peach". Yeah, I think that's it. A very light amber ale. Very nice beer! SWPFTD would enjoy this one. Midnight Mirage black IPA...ok, this was interesting. And I don't mean that in a snide way at all. It's a black IPA with a whole host of fruit flavors. Grapefruit was definitely there on the back of the tongue on the finish, as well as apricot but that was more on the nose. Not a heavily bitter IPA at all. This might be my favorite so far. Decadent Orange Dobroy Nochi imperial stout had a really good orange flavor to it. I still think the back IPA is my favorite though. I wasn't really hungry but perused the menu and ordered a starter of the fresh artisanal bread with an awesome honey butter. There was another butter with it but I forgot what it was while under the thrall of the honey butter. I ate ALL of that myself. I truly enjoyed TRB. The beers were great, the bread was excellent, and the service was good as well. If anyone is a glutton for punishment, please, follow my brewery, and distillery, reviews from across the U.S. and beyond! https://www.yelp.com/collection/-8iscFkpiiCI563-FDfwGg and if anyone is wondering who SWPFTD is you will have to check out my review of Black Market Brewing Co in Temecula, CA to understand. Yes, you will need to read into it a little to get the joke but I have confidence in you! I hope my confidence is not misplaced.

We came here on a whim - I had found it on Google maps when trying to find a place we had gone last…read moretime we were in town. The pictures drew me in, but the atmosphere and history of the actual place blew us all away. Our service was great and the food was delicious... could not have asked for a better experience. We got the Reuben and the Beer and Whiskey Burger. Both with sides of fries. The burger was the worst! It was definitely overcooked, and dry AF! The bottom bun was burnt. Worst of all there was no Bourbon glaze which was a bummer because it wasn't seasoned ...not one bit!! The Reuben wasn't actually bad, the thick cut corned beef was yummy but the bread was also over toasted. The fries were good as was the side of ranch for a dip. We ordered a side of pickles for the Reuben but they came when the sandwich was nearly gone and only when we reminded the waitress which didn't circle back like normal to see how we were doing and check to see if things were good. Now here's the part that was wild. There were only 2 tables 3 people at one and 2 people at the other. As others mentioned we waited almost 15 minutes after being ready to order and about 40 minutes for food to show up! OTHERS HAVE SAID THIS!! OWNERS PAY ATTENTION!! To me this seems like you couldn't care less! We didn't take pics because the food was unremarkable but I'll share pics of the building. I would skip this place for food unless you got time and money to spare as the average menu item was $16. Even the scotch eggs were $14 for 2!!!! Which we didn't get, because screw that $14 for 2 eggs? No thanks!

My family and I visited Alter during Scarecrow Fest this year, so it was understandably very busy…read more We ended up waiting about thirty minutes for a table. Thankfully, we were able to sit outside while we waited and listen to the live band, which made the wait much more enjoyable. I am not sure how crowded it gets on a typical weekend, but during the fest, it was definitely packed. When we were finally seated, we were placed in our own small section of the restaurant with no other tables around us. That was interesting because we had waited so long for a table, yet no one else was seated in that area the entire time we were there. Staff picked up after we were seated, so it was frustrating to see empty tables while the wait continued. Our waiter, however, was very friendly and attentive, which helped balance out the experience. For lunch, I ordered the Truffalo Hot Chicken Sandwich ($18.99) with fries, and it was excellent. The chicken breast was huge, crispy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of heat, and the truffle buffalo flavor really stood out. My husband ordered the Alter Caesar Salad ($18.99), but he said it was nothing special and should not have been that expensive. There really isn't that much to the salad, and the chicken wasn't even seasoned or grilled. I tried it, and it tasted like the chicken in those grab-and-go grocery store pre-made salads. Very disappointing for the price. Overall, despite the long wait due to the fest crowds, the chicken sandwich and service made the visit worthwhile. I would definitely return, especially on a less busy day to get a better feel for the normal dining experience, but I do not recommend the Caesar salad.

Heavy metal riffage in a ice cold glass…read more To round out a day of exploring the Quad Cities, Emily and I dropped into Wake Brewing to have a beer and a few rounds of Uno and a few other card games to relax before the drive. I didn't look into the place before we stopped here so I assumed it was either surfer-themed or was attached to a coffeehouse. Little did we know it was a heavy metal/groove metal nanobrewery. I thrive on heavy metal so perfect for me, not so much for Emily. There were about 10 beers on tap to pick from so I got the Midlife Crisis (fitting as I near 40) and Emily got the Green Mind. The place was filled with what felt like the regulars so we took a spot over in a corner to drink one last beer before the road and play some card games in my 'pub kit' as seen in the cover photo above. My pub kit is a simple plastic container I got from Walmart that is full of quick and easy games to play at breweries, coffeehouses, or wherever you are. It just happens to be plastered in stickers from my travels. Anywho, back to the topic at hand. I really liked Wake Brewing. I have been into IPAs lately and tried a West Coast one for the first time. It was tasty but since I've been drinking hazy or tropical ones, it didn't quite hit like I am used to but that's on me and not the beer itself. Emily really liked her gose beer. I was eyeing the other IPAs on the menu but with a 2 hour drive back, I didn't want to delay us getting home before too late. While we sat there, some really nice groove metal was playing. It reminded me of Tool but less technical and more foot tapping. Shazam said it was King Buffalo and I'll have to check them out once life settles down a bit. If the heavy metal scene scares you, don't be intimidated. Most metal heads are big nerds and are some of the chillest people around. We didn't stick around too long but I wish we had. I loved the entire vibe of this place and would've liked to try some of their other beers. They do have some merch for sell, so you know Emily and I got all their stickers for this trip. If luck finds us back here again, I will def get a shirt. Anything to support heavy metal (and beer). As a side note, do know that trying to park here had me miss the parking lot's few entrances quite a few times. So, if it's your first time, be vigilant of the weird layout and multiple entrances. Rock on!

The IPA I had was solid, and the barrel aged barleywine I bought to take home was outstanding. Staff are a little gruff, but no more so than some places. Not jerks, just folks tired of dealing with idiots, and they don't know yet if you are an idiot. The smashburger food truck screwed up my order so was only able to eat half the food I ordered, but not really Wake's fault. The vide was nice, I loved the industrial patio. If I were in town longer, I would have made another visit. Worth stopping by if you are a brewery person!
