Super cool place with great staff and a few beers already on tap. We'll definitely be back!!!

Flight

I stopped by here a couple of Sundays ago with my wife. We were in the Quad Cities area and wanted to try a local brewery on the IA side and so I consulted Yelp. Great River Brewery came up and so we headed on over to it. Whenever we first walked into the tasting room we were on what we would later find out was the sports bar. Since the menu wasn't on that side, one of the bartenders encouraged us to walk through a door on the side around to the other side and so we did. We happened to be the only people there at that point which was sort of weird. On this side of the bar they had a ton of merchandise for sale and I could see a large board with what they had on tap. The back side of the room was filled with coolers of beer which you could get to go. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I went with a flight. Flights at Great River Brewery consist of your choice of 6 beers and so I went with the roller dam red (my little chalkboard was missing this one), the spooner, 483 pale ale, vintage blonde, an experimental peanut butter brown and finally the milk stout. The beers here were all decent and the two that excited me the most were the roller dam red and the Peanut Butter Brown. It was amazing to me that they got as much of the taste of peanut butter into a beer and that it worked well. By the time I was finishing up my flight, a number of other people had started arriving at the taproom including a number of cyclists. The bottom line for me is that I would head here again in the future. While it was a bit weird being the only people there for a while, I would really love a chance at trying that Peanut Butter Brown again.

Situated in downtown Davenport and walk-able to other nearby points of interest in the area is where you'll find Great River Brewery. Overall I'd say it's a pretty casual spot. No food, just beer and setup just for tasting with seating surrounding the main bar front and even some patio seats available for when the weather is favorable. While being a fan of IPAs, they didn't have many to choose from but did have quite the selection of stouts and porters when we came. These definitely were on the higher gravity but were good for the winter and definitely got us warmed up during the subzero temperatures when we had visited. My favorite would have to be their limited hazelnut brown they had on tap. Browns at one point were my favorites to drink and theirs was excellent. Lots of smoky flavors and hazelnut throughout. But all in all it's hard to say any of the beer we tried was bad especially when you're at a local microbrewery. Anyways, not a bad spot to check out and relax and enjoy a beer if you find yourself in downtown Davenport. 'Til next time, cheers!

The Quad City region is blessed with great, independent breweries, creating multiple nectar's of life, BIER! Within a five mile radius, four independent micro breweries bless the area. Each has its own, distinctive flavor and character. The four independent breweries (NOT chain) in order of my preference are the Great Lake, Front City Brewery, Bent River, and Blue Cat. The cost of the bier was affordable, from $3.75 to $4.00 a pint! I do not know if the citizens of the Quad City realize the how fortunate they are to have so many great independent breweries. This place is great - four stars! A bier lovers place - it is a brewery with a small attachment (room) where they serve great nectar of life, BIER! NO food, no other liquors other than bier. Besides bier, the only other items for sale are touristy items (t-shirts of the various brew and pint glass with the Great River Brewery symbol). I live for IPAs (Indian Pale Ale) - the 483 brew (the history behind the numbering is that it is a buoy on the mighty Mississippi River). Very hoppy, flavorful, to date, one of the best brew I have tasted to date - it leaves a hoppy, bitter, aftertaste (which I crave). Bar or bier tender is very knowledgeable and friendly - should be, as he works brewing the bier. Local folks are friendly too. Located right as you cross one of the bridges from Illinois (Rock Island) into Davenport (Iowa), it is located in a mixed industrial area - working class folks. Young locals from the college and the area are in the small "man room" pub. NO television, no juke box, a few tables - very Spartan like, exists for the purpose of dispensing bier. A few tables are also outside so that you can enjoy the brews outside when the weather is nice. A sign of the quality of the bier is that two of the brews are dispensed at one of the more upscale restaurant downtown, Woodfire Grill (see separate review). Great River Brewery is definitely one of my top breweries in the nation - will definitely return.

High marks for Great River Brewery. On a day of the week when the City of Davenport offers few options - most everything is closed on Sundays - this Brewery was a great option. It is easy to find, especially coming from Rt 80, as it greets you upon entering the city. It is conveniently located to most hotels and a two minute jaunt for bi-cyclist and runners coming from the popular river bank trail. This is a seasoned brewery with a diverse selection of well crafted brews - has more than enough flavors to satisfy any micro-brewery enthusiast or traditional brand loyalist. I had the 483 Pale Ale which had a nice spice flavor that really set it apart from other favorite Pale Ales, while my friend enjoyed the Vintage Blond. Besides that, the place just had a cool practicality to it. The decor has industrial elements of metal seats and ceiling pipes with walls laced with street sticker art and merchandise, while the two wheeler in the window gives a nod to the bicycle community. Great service from the friendly bartender, who served us friendly banter and fascinating Davenport history. According to him, the most ideal time to visit again is during the famous Ragbrai bike race, when it finishes in Davenport, and the 7 Miles Bix run - Big River Brewery are major supporters of both events.

Recently visited this brewery for the first time on a busy Friday night. We were greeted by friendly patrons and bar tenders. People even gave up their bar stools so we could make our way to the bar! We ordered 2 of their HopAPotamus (in love!) and 2 of their Big Cocks later on both delicious! We recently moved to the quad cities from Raleigh, NC and this was the perfect place for us. Had the southern friendly charm we have been missing.

Since we had never been, my husband and I hopped in the car and drive to Iowa this weekend. We made sure to include a brewery tour in the itinerary- which ended up being Great River Brewery. The tour guide was knowledgable and fun. Our group only had about 7 people so we got to ask lots of questions about their processes and equipment. The tour wrapped up in their canning and stock area- which was interesting. To close out the experience- you taste every single beer they make. I think I counted 13 tastings but after about 7 my accuracy went down. They even give you en entire free pint after all of this! I recommend the vintage blonde that boasts a chocolate flavor (chocolate beer? Yes please!). Their IPA is good too. Go check it out! Cost: FREE.

Great River is my favorite brewery in downtown Davenport. They have a great little beer garden out front that you can grab a beer and soak up some sun while you have a view of historic Davenport and the Mississippi. I'm definitely a fan of their ipa's and their stouts are pretty on point. I always stop here when I'm in town and I'm am honestly never disappointed.

Heavy metal riffage in a ice cold glass…read more To round out a day of exploring the Quad Cities, Emily and I dropped into Wake Brewing to have a beer and a few rounds of Uno and a few other card games to relax before the drive. I didn't look into the place before we stopped here so I assumed it was either surfer-themed or was attached to a coffeehouse. Little did we know it was a heavy metal/groove metal nanobrewery. I thrive on heavy metal so perfect for me, not so much for Emily. There were about 10 beers on tap to pick from so I got the Midlife Crisis (fitting as I near 40) and Emily got the Green Mind. The place was filled with what felt like the regulars so we took a spot over in a corner to drink one last beer before the road and play some card games in my 'pub kit' as seen in the cover photo above. My pub kit is a simple plastic container I got from Walmart that is full of quick and easy games to play at breweries, coffeehouses, or wherever you are. It just happens to be plastered in stickers from my travels. Anywho, back to the topic at hand. I really liked Wake Brewing. I have been into IPAs lately and tried a West Coast one for the first time. It was tasty but since I've been drinking hazy or tropical ones, it didn't quite hit like I am used to but that's on me and not the beer itself. Emily really liked her gose beer. I was eyeing the other IPAs on the menu but with a 2 hour drive back, I didn't want to delay us getting home before too late. While we sat there, some really nice groove metal was playing. It reminded me of Tool but less technical and more foot tapping. Shazam said it was King Buffalo and I'll have to check them out once life settles down a bit. If the heavy metal scene scares you, don't be intimidated. Most metal heads are big nerds and are some of the chillest people around. We didn't stick around too long but I wish we had. I loved the entire vibe of this place and would've liked to try some of their other beers. They do have some merch for sell, so you know Emily and I got all their stickers for this trip. If luck finds us back here again, I will def get a shirt. Anything to support heavy metal (and beer). As a side note, do know that trying to park here had me miss the parking lot's few entrances quite a few times. So, if it's your first time, be vigilant of the weird layout and multiple entrances. Rock on!

The IPA I had was solid, and the barrel aged barleywine I bought to take home was outstanding. Staff are a little gruff, but no more so than some places. Not jerks, just folks tired of dealing with idiots, and they don't know yet if you are an idiot. The smashburger food truck screwed up my order so was only able to eat half the food I ordered, but not really Wake's fault. The vide was nice, I loved the industrial patio. If I were in town longer, I would have made another visit. Worth stopping by if you are a brewery person!

We were barely seated when they began taking drink orders--super efficient and friendly service right from the start. I tried the Cherry Bomb Blonde beer and really enjoyed it--light and flavorful. The servers worked as a team and got everyone's orders in quickly, which is impressive for a group our size. We started with the pretzel bites and beer cheese, which were a definite 10/10--warm, soft, and perfectly paired with the cheese. We also shared a hamburger pizza, and really appreciated the thin crust and how the hamburger was broken up into small pieces. The sauce was sweet, and we would've loved just a little more of it (or maybe some on the side for dipping). We're not from the area, but if we were, this would definitely be a regular spot. I've included pictures of the BLT pizza and the jalapeño pineapple pizza that others in our group ordered--both got great reviews too. Overall, fast and friendly service, especially impressive for a large group, and the food was delicious. Highly recommend!

There are many options to choose from. I had the Bock and Cheese pasta, while my partner enjoyed the Millionaire Bacon Burger. Both dishes were phenomenal. The only minor issue was that the burger, ordered medium well, was served medium rare. No big deal. The restaurant was being decorated for the holiday season, which added a fun touch! The space is open and airy, ensuring you don't feel crowded, and it's very clean. The beautiful modern-industrial style is perfect for hosting events. We stopped in to Granite City as it is right next to our hotel. Easy…read more. A hostess will seat you. No greeting arriving (or departing,) other than "just two?". She was efficient and smiled. Our waitress came over in good time and took a drink order which showed up in very good time. I also asked a menu question which she got the answer to right away. As another reviewer stated it is *cold* in there! I keep a sweater in my bag for this purpose but still, I was cold. 86 outside, 66 inside (at a guess of course). They may keep the air cold to cool down that hot open kitchen. Bring a jacket or sweater. Our food came out in good time. Portions were generous. Plenty of cheese on my burger. I can understand how another reviewer mentioned the food is salty. The burger is mixed w/a GC spice blend that does seem heavy on the salt. At first it was fine, but I couldn't finish my burger. After a while the taste just stuck in my throat and was too much. May want to pull back a bit on the amount of spice blend being added. The crinkle fries were really good. Nice and crispy. My dining comlanion got the buffalo chicken wrap. Plenty of meat, spicy sauce and veg in this wrap. Trouble is the wrap barely holds the filling in and as the sauce makes the wrap wet, it inevitably fell apart. It is very tasty though, and he happily ate it with a knife and fork. Maybe a bigger wrap is available? 'Cause that portion size is excellent. Staff do seem to congregate in the kitchen area with the expediter. As the dining room got busier, we naturally saw less of our waitress but she did check in a few times and was sure to keep the water glass full and offer drink refills. The ladies room really needs a visual make over and deep clean. It does have a bit of a swampy smell. A machine by the sink, that I believe is a dehumidifier, had a light on it blinking "empty". So the tank was full of water? If it had been running, that may have helped with the smell but I don't know. It wasn't offensive, just a humid bathroom smell. The beer is good, as one would hope from a brewery. They have a selection from Irish Red to pilsners. The menu says to ask about sours. The interior is comfortable, casual with a mix of booths and tables. A couple of the booth seats are in serious disrepair (torn/split material exposing the foam cushion) and need to be fixed. A bar with high top tables is on the other side of the hostess stand keeping the areas seperate. A glass wall seperates you from both the brewing tanks on one wall and the kitchen on another wall. Restrooms by kitchen. Plenty of parking in their private lot. Those entry doors (two sets) are *heavy!

It's about $7 a pint. Pretty good for local beers, so we got a few of these. Best of these last time here was the Q.C Haze, a hazy IPA. It's a strong ABV at 7.1%. There's also a pretty okay food selection. It's about $8 for shareable appetizers. The Chips And Salsa are good with anything to be honest. Great brewery that's also a restaurant where they also cook everything. It has many items as far as beer and food.
