Beet root soup, recommended pairing with their dumplings
    Eva M.

It's unusual that I give such a high rating for what seems to be a tourist trap restaurant. Smack in the middle of the Old Town Square, facing the lovely Cloth Hall, church, carriages coming through, is the lovely Hawelka. I'm guessing this restaurant has been here for a while. It is serving traditional Polish food in an upscale restaurant. I am certain that plenty will say there are cheaper places to eat. But honestly, compared to the prices I see at home, this is a steal. Someone also commented about the host lady not paying attention to her. She's not just the host lady, she's the restaurant manager. In these establishments, you pay respect to the RM to get attention. I had no problem getting seated immediately. We ordered enough food to feed a family for just the two of us. Pork Cutlet with Cabbage Soup included - Very earthy homey meal. Tender pork, poached potatoes, and a home-made taste of cabbage soup. Pan fried dumplings with cabbage and mushrooms - These weren't quite as good as ones I had in Warsaw where the mushrooms were 'forest', i.e. earthy brown varieties. These were cabbage, then mushrooms. They also weren't as pan fried. Still good though, just not as great. Beet root soup - This is a Polish homey dish commonly consumed with a dumpling meal. It is DELICIOUS!!! You must try this. Potato pancakes - This version came with sour cream, shredded egg, and small bites of veggies. The potatoes are savory and seasoned. Very tasty. Side salad - Because I need to eat some greens amidst all these carbs. Light on the dressing, not tossed, which is fine with me. The interior is beautifully decorated with art on all the walls. My eyes wandered looking at these reproductions thinking which ones I've seen in person. We opted to eat inside to avoid smokers outside. By the end of the meal, we were the only ones around and I took pictures leisurely.

Local beer I had to try it. Yum!

I wondered in to have a polish beer on the patio. The food looked OK. Polish beer is great! This is near everything so there was a huge mixture of nationalities. I met up with a group of rogue Scots...

This place is nice with an option for outdoor seating with a view of the square. They have a good variety to choose from. I had the Wild Boar Medallions wrapped in Bacon with Pierogis stuffed with lentils and a Juniper & Thyme sauce which were great. The only disappointment was the portions weren't quite as big of medallions as were photographed in their adds. But then again it never really looks like the picture. The entree was great. Then also, potato cakes with sour cream and red onions. It was good as well. Their prices are good as well. They accept credit cards and offer free wifi.

1)Salmon mousse with asparagus salad: cold starter dish taste 4/5 won't call it a salad cuz the amount of vegetables is small. 2)Porcini mushroom soup: soup taste great, 5/5, bread is perfect. Definitely will get this again next time. 3)Pike perch baked with herbs 4/5 Roasted duck 3/5 Grilled veal tenderloin with potatoes dumplings 4/5 4) cakes tried three different cake overall 3/5 Service is great, love their dance performance! The show alone is worth next meal.

Overall good food considering it is located in the main square of the old town. Service is friendly, though a bit sparse. Highly recommend the Polish rye soup with the meat pierogi.

Popped onto a table for a refreshing drink. I was sitting next to the waitress station so got served quickly. Nothing special about this place. I felt the food was very expensive and if at the same quality as the drinks then it would be nothing but average. Again even though I was next to the waitress station it still took 10 min to get the bill after asking for it. I probably wouldn't stop at this cafe again as really nothing raised this beyond average

There were two rooms and I sat in the long one (the ceiling arc reminded me of a tunnel for some reason) with the duck mural. The menu contained lots of Polish dishes and a dedicated duck section. A duck and pickles appetizer was served gratis. It spread easily on the accompanying slices of bread and was nice. I've not had duck presented like this before and when I piled a couple of the smaller pickle pieces on top the tartness added more complexity for the flavors. I'd order this if it was on their menu. Zurek soup tasted a little tangy and was filled with sausage, mushroom, potatoes plus a whole egg and was delicious. I wasn't sure what to expect but all the different ingredients made for an enjoyable bowl. The bread bowl also contributed by thickening the soup as it abosrbed the broth. The duck breast with smoked plum sauce was thick, cooked medium and very tender. There was a little too much sauce for me but I liked the different taste. The side of glazed carrots and peas had a hint of sweetness and completed the dish along with the potato gnocchi. Service overall was good and efficient. Would return.

I…read moreordered the Ruski Pierogi (cottage cheese, potato, and fried onion) and potato pancakes. The pierogi came with 9 pieces and the potato pancakes included 3 large pancakes. I am from the United States so I can honestly say these were the best pierogi I've ever had (and my grandparents made great pierogi!) The service was attentive and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We dined around 4pm so we were seated right away but we were told that the other side of the restaurant was already booked for reservations starting at 5. I suggest making a reservation if you plan on dining at a typical dinner time. This was also on a Tuesday so I imagine they are quite busy throughout the week as well.

When we visited around noon, there were only two parties ahead of us, so the wait wasn't bad at all. We ordered the daily special, a chicken cordon bleu served with potatoes and a side of vegetables that tasted a bit like coleslaw. We also tried two kinds of fried pierogi: spinach and feta, and pickled cabbage with white mushrooms. It was my first time trying pierogi, and I really enjoyed them. They reminded me of dumplings, but were served with sour cream on the side, which added a nice touch. Ordering was very straightforward. You simply place your order at the counter, and the staff will bring the food to your table. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous.

The decor of this milk bar was by far the most inviting of the ones I've seen or visited on this trip. While outside checkout the cool cow models below the windows which were enclosed with the exterior lighting. Inside was full of greenery and bright. Even the menu stood out with the colorful handwritten blackboard. Staff were very friendly. I grabbed an open seat and shared a table with three others. Staff came over to deliver my utensils and quickly highlight the menu. I walked up to the counter to place my order and pay. I decided to get the daily special and deviated from the Polish cuisine I've been eating the whole time here. The mushroom soup was big and delicious with a strong mushroom flavor. The chicken curry was meaty and tasty sauce with fluffy basmati rice. Well worth visiting and I can see why this place was busy all day. .

The cheese plate and tartare were not accompanied with any bread or crackers. The cheese selection was boring in my opinion. The queens jam is not my thing. The stake tartare was so good. The dumplings were also average. The cottage cheese were my favorite. The duck was great. I will say I've never had polish food so I have nothing to compare it to. The goose liver pate was delicate, without too much of the earthy aroma that sometimes pate can have. The cranberry gelee offset the richness of the pate. I suggest you order bread on the side, to ensure you have enough to spread it on. The roast duck was meaty yet tender and moist. It appears they slow cooked it, very much to perfection. It had a nice crispy exterior, and not too much fat. I had their pan fried beets on the side, and they were smooth and delicate, without over being overpowering. Overall a very nice meal, and I look forward to going back
