We received this stay as an Anniversary present from our sister in law and her companion. Our king suite was beautiful. We went to the Hana Ranch restaurant for a drink before ending the night. Would I recommend the Koa Resort on Maui? Nope!…read more Here's why. Stayed at the Koa Resort, unit 4G, 3bedroom, 2 bath condo costing ~$721/night for 7 days. The facilities are generally nice and well kept, the location is good for exploring Maui. Our unit though had its problems. The central AC was on the fritz and was in repair transition when we arrived, no notice. Each bedroom had a portable AC unit in it that took up room and was noisy. The resort staff wanted us to let workmen into the condo to do final repairs during our stay. Some of us were quite tired from fatigue from running a marathon the previous day and erratic sleep because of our second big problem. There was a rat in the condo! First signs were evidence of fruit on the counters being chewed and rat turds. Two of our group had seen the rat scurry by out of the corner of their eye, and one had felt it climb over them in the night. We called the resort staff and they sent over a guy who brought over 3 bait traps, 2 for mice (?) and one rat sized. We thought the rat was home basing in one of the owner's closets. So, put the rat trap in that closet and stuffed a towel under the door to trap him inside, if indeed it was in there. We packed most of our food in the refer and cabinets, but unfortunately an avocado was left out one night and was chewed on. Great! In the night, my son heard it digging out the carpet so it could get under his door and into his room. Then felt it crawl over him to get to the window. He waited patiently and actually got a photo of it. Yep, a good size rat. We asked for spring traps and we bought some peanut butter for bait. Mind you the staff never called to see if the bait traps had worked, no follow up. How common is this? Once we had the spring traps, 2 mouse sized and 1 rat sized. Why the mouse traps? We know what a rat is. Baited the rat trap in the afternoon with peanut butter and set it by the stove. Five of us were milling around the condo but not in the kitchen when 10 minutes after setting it, we heard the trap snap. We looked and there the little darling was in the trap, broad daylight. We got it! Should I send them an invoice for de-ratting their condo? We did not get any compensation by the resort for the rat or AC problems, though I did ask for a 10% discount. No such luck. Me thinks this is a common problem there. So, would I recommend the Koa Resort on Maui? Nope!

Imagine finding excellent German/Swiss cuisine on Maui?…read moreBrigit & Bernard's Garden Cafe is just that place. Tucked in a quiet industrial area of Kahului, it is an oasis of delectable treats. The outside lanai is so comfortable and covered from the elements. We have gone there for years, and have always been warmly greeted by the owners. Tonight was no exception when we joined some good friends. The sausage appetizer is superb with your choice of pork or veal bratwursts served with red cabbage and tasty mustard. The Schweinsfilet (Hunter's cutlet) with its flavorful mushroom sauce was delicious. I always get the Wienerschnitzel which is huge, pan fried to perfect crispness yet tender and juicy inside. I ordered extra mushroom sauce to enhance the flavor. For sides, we love the red cabbage, sauerkraut, au gratin potato and spaetzle. Their beer and wine selection goes so well with their dishes. I've had their tasty strudel for dessert in the past. We look forward to dining again for dinner or lunch. Ausgezeichnet!

I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu with potatoes au gratin and veggies and the husband got the carbonara with chicken and bread. We washed everything down with an iced tea and a beer. The portion sizes were heberous and the food was fresh, warm and filling. The flavors were amazing and we savored each bite. Really had a leisurely meal. Didn't get a chance to make it back for Oktoberfest, but will happily dine here again to try their other dishes.

It has become part of our story, and every visit continues to feel just as meaningful and memorable as the first. The setting is absolutely stunning. Between the beautifully designed interior and the outdoor seating overlooking the beach in front of the Four Seasons, it creates one of the most romantic date-night settings on Maui. The food never misses the mark. We started with an English pea soup that was exquisitely seasoned and beautifully balanced. I followed with the Broiled Miso Marinated Walu, tender, delicate, mildly sweet, served with sesame sauce and crisp cucumbers that added the perfect contrast. The rack of lamb was juicy, tender, and cooked perfectly. Dessert was unforgettable: the "Spikey Lemon" calamansi cake with yuzu curd and crunchy meringue, plus freshly baked donuts that arrived crispy, warm, and drenched in a divine chocolate sauce. Pure heaven. But what truly sets Spago apart, and what makes each visit unique, is the front-of-house staff. Over the years we've been lucky enough to be served by both Jeb and Mikayla. Jeb was also our waiter on our wedding night, which made seeing him again feel especially meaningful. He has a rare gift: he makes guests feel genuinely special. His knowledge of the menu is remarkable, he reads the flow of a meal perfectly, and he is charming, funny, and effortlessly attentive without ever being overbearing. What keeps us coming back isn't just the food or the atmosphere. it's the impeccable hospitality. One moment we'll never forget: on our wedding night, after I mentioned I was Austrian, Jeb surprised us with a Kaiserschmarrn. It was unexpected, thoughtful, and one of those gestures that instantly lets you know you're more than just another table. You're valued. Thank you to the front-of-house staff, thank you to the kitchen, and thank you, Wolfgang Puck, for creating a place that has become such an important part of our lives. We'll keep coming back.

It was sunny at first so I had to wear shades while eating and it was a really hot since it's outdoor seating but then everything got better once the sun is setting down. The food was really good, and the size was decent. I ordered the Thai curry, the pork chop, the bao bun (by accident since the server misheard what I wanted), the chocolate soufflé and a couple cocktails drink. The foods took some time to make but I'm not complaining since you get to enjoy the beautiful view. The server was pretty nice and friendly. All the foods were on the pricier range but you're there for the experience, the view and the atmosphere. The valet parking was free, which is nice since it is a high end restaurant. I would totally recommend this restaurant if you want to celebrate a special occasion!

I don't know what I'll do if I lose Nick's Maui. But I dither, Nick's Fishmarket Maui is in an incredible location inside the Fairmont Kea Lani and it's setting alone would be enough to pull me back even if the food was just okay. Thankfully the food is MUCH better than "just okay", it is generally outstanding. I rotate starters and salads because there are so many great choices. The Caesar Salad is about as good as they get, but I really, really like the Maui Greek Salad. With at least four people we start with the Seafood Tower, but find it just too big for two of us. Other than that the Kalua Pig Pot Stickers, Charred Octopus, Crab Cakes and Blackened Ahi are the starters I rotate through. For my Main, I am less eclectic. I have a hard time getting away from the Diver Scallops and Scampi. I have tried other dishes, the Abalone, Kona Lobster and Ribeye (I know, I know, who orders steak in a seafood restaurant), but I keep coming back to. For Dessert, I am also in a rut, but I love desserts they set on fire and in this case it is Bananas Foster. I do sneak bites off my DW's Creme Brulee, as does off my BF. The service is terrific, attentive without being intrusive. I used to joke about the Chicago store that if you knocked a spoon off the table someone would catch it before it hit the floor. The Maui service isn't quite that attentive and I am not sure I would want it to be.

We also ordered the B&B ahi which was also delicious and fresh and ever so slightly seared. Both are worth the trip and the money. From there we started to feel like second class citizens. Hubs ordered the lamb while I had mahi mahi tacos (I didn't have a huge appetite). I would not order the tacos again. Table next to us raved about them and although the tortilla and the fish were fresh, the 'blackened' seasoning did me in. Overkill on a nicely cooked piece of fish - hard pass. Lamb, although cooked properly, (and I thought interestingly presented but) hubs is a meat guy and felt all the additions - sauce, relish, goat cheese - was overkill. Have to also say he didn't enjoy the waiter taking his knife to hand prepare a bite the way he thought it should be eaten. We barely saw him after that which further soured the experience. He vanished after the big ticket part of the meal (the 82$ lamb) and mentioned a comped panna cotta for our anniversary after we'd ordered a paid desert. Oops we owe you that next time (but you'll take our money today) Our food runner was great! Super upbeat, always with a smile. Bar area was relatively quiet until it wasn't. We wouldn't spend $350 this way again but would sit at the bar for sashimi and bounce.
