They were pretty tired when they got back but that just means they got to ride a lot of waves in! My daughter said surfing was one of her favorite activities of the trip. The company was easy to find in the parking lot and they offered the option to tip digitally which we appreciated. We also purchased the optional photo package so got some great photos of our group on the water.

We found the spot easily and the van. Once we checked in, we filled out the waiver, fitted with a sun shirt and water shoes. We were also given a mesh bag to put our belongings in and this was put in their van. We were in a group of 6 people total and our guide was Mikey. Mikey went over the basics and had us practice on dry land and then we were off. It was only waist deep and most of the ocean floor was sand, with a few rocks, so the water shoes came in handy. Mikey found a wonderful area for us to ride waves on Kalama Beach and was very encouraging and positive. He'd tell you exactly what to do and when to do it to successfully surf. I am the least athletic person and I stood up on my first wave. Best of all, we saw a lot of turtles! I could have stayed all day and just enjoyed the turtles. Surfing is exhausting and I had a hysterectomy 6 months ago. When I wanted to just cheer people on, there was no pressure to get back out there. It was at my own pace. I really appreciated that. There is also a photographer to purchase pictures and we bought those as well for $120.00. $90.00 for 1 person and $120.00 for two. It will be 48 hours or so until those come in digitally. Gratuity isn't included, so we brought cash. If you need to, there is also a digital way to tip your instructor. If you use this company, ask for Mikey. He's a great teacher and very enthusiastic with his small group. Con: on the Viator website it lists "light refreshments", which wasn't offered. If I had to do it again, I'd skip Viator and book directly with the company. If you book directly with the company it's $88.00 per person.

I got a late start for paddle boarding and some places weren't open on a Sunday or didn't have…read moreboards to rent. This place was referred to me WOM (word of mouth), so I walked over from 505 Front to their shop and was able to rent a board for $40 for the day. I don't know if that was reasonable, but nonetheless I had great use of the board for about 3 hours. I mentioned that I hadn't boarded in a couple of years and the guy assured me that it'll be fine--it's just like riding a bike. He was right, once I got the board in the water it was great. The shop is great and the staff was helpful. The only down side is the location to The Breakwall--you have to carry your board to the beach and it's about a 2 block hike. If you don't mind the hike, I recommend renting your equipment here.

As a novice surfer from LA/OC, Maui and Maui Surf Culture was a welcome respite from the cold…read morewaters and more expensive rentals of Cali. Came to Hawaii during the first week of April and the conditions were terrible! 2-3 ft barely in Waikiki and 2-3 ft in Lahaina, while everywhere else was a lake or blown out. Fortunately the lady and I found MSC who offered a great selection of rentals, storage, and outdoor shower! Lolo and a lovely woman (sorry I lost your name!) with an adorable pup set us up with a premium rental ($45) and a softie ($30). This came with rash guards, booties because of the coral, and a locker and a bin to leave our stuff. The shop is big and cozy with a bunch of items from snorkeling to SUP. Nice incense and Hawaiian/Tropical music playing around. Really set up the Aloha spirit and mood. Lolo gave us the lowdown and really explained everything about Lahaina Harbor (bunch of schools and long boards) and the Breakwall (consistent left and shortie friendly). Since I ride a 5'7" at home I wanted a board with maneuverability, but float - and given the sm0l waves I opted for a 6'10" 48L thruster. The lady was just learning so she got a 9'0" softie. Lahaina Harbor was perfect for the lady - especially with the sneak lessons she got from all the instructors. And Breakwall was a dream considering LA/OC has been terrible with the rain and storms (but thankful Cali has rain finally). Really enjoyed the long lefts and exploring the faces. And seeing my lady finally standing up on a board! Just be wary of the long paddle out! Came back to MSC and just had to place everything on the lawn outside. And the staff allowed us to leave our stuff in their bins while we explore. One of the best places we've visited so far and can't wait to come back when Lahaina is pumping.

Squeezed in a lesson with Scott at 8 am before my 1 pm flight. I'm so happy that I did. I came…read moretotally unprepared, but was relieved that Scott had everything I needed, long sleeve rash guard and water shoes. He also equipped us with surfboards that were perfect for our height and weight. We started off with a quick simple lesson on shore to teach us the basics and then we went out into the ocean. We couldn't have picked a better beach or a better day to go. The conditions were incredible! Scott's energy was on another level, and got us super pumped up and excited to catch waves. He's a super cool and charismatic dude and really fun to be around. He's very motivating and makes sure you get your moneys worth and catch a ton of waves. Everybody in our group caught 25-30 waves at least! In other lessons, I've never been able to get up on my own, but by the end of this lesson, I was getting up by myself every time!! Thank you to Scott for the best surfing experience I've had in my life, what a great way to end an epic trip to Maui! Will be back soon!

Took the time to walk through the basics and pool time before our first dive. Then when we did our shore dives, he stayed engaged with me while going through skills with two other students. He was so patient with me, which really helped make me feel comfortable with scuba diving. We stayed at the Wailea Marriott, so we had the complimentary intro to scuba session in the pool first, and then we went and did the intro to scuba session in the ocean. My husband and I were the only couple who opted to do the ocean session after the pool session. My husband already had experience scuba diving, so I basically got 1 on 1 learning with JJ. It was incredible! I will definitely scuba dive again. 10/10 recommend this! JJ also takes photos of you when you do the ocean dive, which you can purchase for $100.

We did a semi-private lesson with Coach Shaun and wow - that was an amazing experience!…read more To start off, about a week before our session, Coach Brian texted us a welcoming and detailed message with all the information we needed for a successful lesson (meetup location, time, how and where to park, etc). On the morning of our lesson, we got to the spot early and Coach Shaun started our session right away. He was incredibly informative and detailed with his instruction, and before we knew it, we were headed out to the water. It was an absolutely perfect spot to learn: perfect weather, warm waters, great learning-sized waves, and good company! Coach Shaun was very patient and understanding. If and when he noticed something in our posture or stance that we needed to fix for a better experience, he was very informative and did a great job showing/telling us how to improve. Out of our whole trip to Maui, I think this was hands-down our favorite part! We'll definitely be back. Mahalo!‍‍

All three of us got up on our very first wave, which set such a fun and positive tone for the whole lesson! Brian gave us real-time feedback that helped us keep improving, and I loved the photos he captured of the three of us. My girls have done lessons with another instructor in the past, so they had a direct comparison--and they both said Brian was the best instructor they've had. My teens had a great time learning to surf on the Kihei shores with Aloha Ocean Adventures. My 2…read moreteens had 2 other teens join them along with the instructor, an assistant and a photographer. The teens were instructed on land then guided out into the surf. All four were able to stand up and control their boards fairly quickly so they got a lot of opportunities to ride the waves in and of course to fall off! Great experience overall.
