Someone recommended this spot to me and after getting my nails done here a number of times, here is my take. - (Fairly) timely. I always make an appointment ahead of time, which pretty much always gets me right in without having to wait. - Lots of great color options. Feels like they always have some new stuff going on too. - I have always been very happy with the quality of work they've done on my nails. - Very friendly, attentive service. - Open on MONDAYS! Here's what could be slightly improved (and this is solely based on my own personal preferences): - I would love to be offered a beverage when I arrive. - Not cheap (about $100 for dip mani/gel pedi). - In my dream world, I would love if my nails and toes could be done simultaneously (instead of toes first, then fingers). I did have an appointment but i came in early. I was top to pick a color. I never know what I actually want. Lol. The lady had helped me and i also love glitter. I was going to an event that night and i needed to get my nails redone. I had a nail break and one dip application peel off from another nail salon. I have only went to 3 nail salons for deep. So i will only say that i truly love only 2 for right now. Last place nails didnt last a month. I do sometimes spend 80-100 dollars with dip amd shellac. So this design was 45.00. Maybe even lesser. So after January 2 past i was impressed that there was no lifting and it was only outgrown. I love seeing that. Lol. To know my money last this long on my nails. No cracks it's January 19,2024 i plan on going back if it stops snowing. Its mot even thick. No scratches. My nails are long and i have got them stuff and still i haven't topped the dip off. My nails grown so much too. Also many years ago after trying gel i think. At another nail salon the gel continuously peeled off and i was told it was because of the oils in the lotion right. I then went here and had it redone after the other place messed up twice and you know what it lasted! Even with my lotion oils i was using. My daughter does miss the free candy at the other place lol. But i feel like i am in and out. Soaping the nail not for a long time or having foil around my nails i am okay with. I went in on Thursday, as a walk in, and went with the dip nails. I was in and out of there in about 45-50 minutes. The staff is friendly and did a great job on my nails. This place was my go-to place for nails. It's near my home, and they did a decent job. Recently, I got powder dip. Their quality is poor. 2 days after getting them done, my nail broke. I went in, fully expecting to pay for it to get fixed (even though I really shouldn't have to). The lady treated me like a toddler and told me "I had to wait my turn". I understand waiting. But the way in which I was told was demeaning. I then asked about coming in the next day. She said "well we are too busy then as well. When the nail tech was putting it on it looked a little streaky and ask him to redo a few. The manicure barely lasted 5 days and then started peeling. Went with my mom. I am very scared of getting a fungal infection, since this was a new place and I've contracted one before. This place is AMAZING! they use the disposable liners for the foot spa stuff. You can see their autoclave, where their tools are. The staff was so sweet. My friend and I wanted manicures and I wanted a pedicure. At first, I liked the environment and staff but I felt rushed when I wanted to pick out the colors I liked. Once the pedicure ended, she then started on my hands. My friend told them I wanted dip nails, while she wanted tips but the lady I had did NOT do a dip and instead did a cheap-ass nail polish job with old, ghetto-looking nail polish you can buy at Walmart for cheap. Not even a minute after leaving the nail polish broke and I asked for a refund and for them to take it all off. they refused a refund but "fixed" the nail polish with no charge. For the price, it is a reasonable service. However, they talk in Vietnamese to each other the ENTIRE time, and laugh, and god knows they are remarking on their clients. Otherwise, they are very courteous. The actual service is so-so. I had no idea if my manicure was done or not because the lady got up and disappeared - I waited till my nails were dry and stood up. As others have mentioned, they don't allow tipping on credit cards. Bring cash, if you anticipate you will be happy with your service. I find that occasionally when I leave, several days later I develop hang nails on multiple fingers because they are semi-rough on the cuticles. Again, for the price, it's fine. read more

It's Sunday. Literally the only problem I have with this place is not always being open!!! I am currently sitting in yet another bad mani/pedi since Hawaii nails is closed. This is my favorite nail shop in all of Des Moines... When I moved here, unfortunately I ended up paying for a lot of bad manicures until I found this place. The reason I'm posting this review is that it's expensive to have nice nails. It's $80+ to get shellac mani/pedi and if I'm going to shell out that money, I want it to look nice. Not just nice or okay but really good. I get that here. And there are so so so many bad places in Des Moines with dirty tools, bad technicians or people not even certified at all. I just want to really make a point that they do a damn good job. I've had my nails done by every girl there and they're all good. They really are. I think either of the two owners (married couple) are especially great but I've never had a complaint. I just wish they were open Sunday!!!! read more

I really like the services I get at Hawaii Nails. They are kind and thoughtful and do good work. One thing to know is that they don't let you put a tip on your credit card--you must use cash. Kind of a pain, but if you're prepared it's fine. I only get pedicures, so I can't speak to the manicure, but they are always busy. I've never been disappointed! read more

Horrible customer service! The first time I went I got the dip and they did a good job, I would have given them 4 stars for that. The second time I went back was an awful experience. I got the dip on my nails again and they gave me the wrong color! The whole time she was putting the dip powder on I told her the pink looked a lot lighter than what I picked in the booklet and also had a ton of sparkles. She kept telling me it was the number I picked and that it would look like what I wanted at the end. She kept going very quickly and I felt super rushed. At the end I knew it looked nothing like the color and I went to look and their dip powder booklets have multiple colors with the SAME NUMBER. When I had showed her the color I wanted I'm assuming she didn't even look at the color, only the number below it. I explained the situation to her showing her the color I choose with the number and the one she actually gave me with the same number. She was super rude about it and wouldn't offer to fix it. She never apologized and when I asked if she could take this color off and redo it she told me it would be over a 2 hour wait as she had other appointments. She just kept turning it around on me saying I picked that color and not her fault I was not happy with it. Then when I said I was not paying full price for her mistake she went on to say she was going to call the police if I did not pay the full amount. HORRIBLE. Never going back again and highly recommend no one else does. If you do decide to go there and get dip on your nails make sure when you point to the color you want that they actually look at the color and not just the number. read more

I've been getting acrylics done (solar) at Hawaii nails for years, the quality of the work is lovely! Very clear both David & Tina (shop owners) care about the work done and are always good at checking you're happy too along the way! Prices are fair-tip, only cash! One of the things that really separates Hawaii nails from other nail salons are all the nail products they use that are strong smelling (polish remover etc), the cotton ball/paper towel used goes directly into a closed container after use so it doesn't stink up their salon-much appreciated!! Easy to relax, friendly atmosphere, no polish smell-definite plus! Highly recommend appointment being made if going during busy hours, and an understanding that bc they care about their work, appointment may not always start right on time.. large selection of polishes including shellac. I have very thin nails and although I'm very active, my nails have not chipped or broken since I've been going to Hawaii Nails. I only get pedicures 4-5 times a year, but I've always been happy with the quality of that service too. I go to other area salons with friends for special occasions and am always disappointed that the polish does not last a full two weeks. Hawaii Nails always uses good quality polish and my pedicure looks great for 2 to 3 weeks. The owner, I think, was brushing my heel while talking on the phone, looking around NOT paying attention, filled my heel in the same spot until it bled. When he saw the blood on the towel he took a cotton ball, dipped it alcohol and put it right on the sore! I about went thru the ceiling. It hurt so bad! That was over ten days ago and it still hurts.
