Not going back! Thumbs down. Although it was a beautiful spot to bring my young children to pick blueberries by the Umpqua river, when i asked the owner to please tell me what pesticides sprays they use, because they are not an organic blueberry farm and I wanted to know what was sprayed on them. He told me they spray fungicides on the blossoms just before fruit set. I asked which fungicide because I know some are dangerous to people and can transfer systemically from the blossom into the berry, and he said he would not tell me what he used. Then he said if I didn't like it I could pick somewhere else!
After he gruffly repeated this twice, I realized he might be hiding what he sprayed. I know that some fungicides are absorbed into the plant and go into the berries and are dangerous to people, especially children and pregnant women. His rude response to not tell me what he had sprayed on the public's food seems unethical.
I think all chemicals that touch our food should be disclosed to the public who supports the farm by buying the food. This is the law of food labeling for packaged foods as we have a right to know whats in our food. It may not be a law because the system is set up for profit to the businesses involved ( farmer and spray companies) and the innocent public is not informed.
When a farmer wont tell me what he sprayed on my food i wont eat it, we need to stand up for our rights and not be fools.
Haven Farm's surprising response will get us to go to a different blueberry farm locally that even if not organic, at least is friendly and open on disclosing sprays.
You cant trust a book by its cover as we cant trust a farm or a fruit just by its beauty, because what we eat goes into our body cells and some we have discovered are very dangerous and or controversial so we need to know. read more
