Enter our second child, Luca. We followed Taking Cara Babies and for the first couple months of his life that worked just fine. And then he went through the dreaded sleep regression at 4 months and our lives flipped upside down. Taking Cara Babies and all the IG sleep resources could not help us. We needed a professional. We purchased the "Help! I'm Drowning!" package because Luca was waking up every 2 hours and would only go back to sleep if he was nursing. He only took cat naps and was really struggling. I tried everything and nothing would work. Bethany came in and did a full assessment, gave us a sleep plan and scheduled our in home dates. She did 3 overnights and by night 3 Luca was sleeping through the night. She saw Luca's struggles and personalized her sleep training for him. I love that she sees each child for their own self. Her solution is not a one size fits all like the other generic sleep resources. Luca now sleeps 7pm-7am and has a solid nap schedule. I cannot recommend Bethany enough. Being new to Austin meant we didn't have a large network of people to ask for references, so I researched online, read reviews and looked through credentials. I knew very quickly I wanted to work with Christy and Jenni. I had an extremely difficult pregnancy, although I was also sick the entirety of my first as well. I had hyperemesis gravidarum, meaning I was throwing up constantly, losing weight, and unable to keep down hardly anything. Christy has a huge wealth of knowledge and practices functional medicine alongside traditional options. I was always given information of references for alternative therapies to help my nausea. They were always helping me manage my sickness and we worked closely with a perinatal MD for any tests or services Christy couldn't provide herself. I had incredible care throughout my pregnancy and can't stress enough how great a resource Christy was for every ailment. Our birth experience was awesome! It only lasted an hour and a half (sooo fast!) but it was in the middle of the night with a birth tub. Our baby was born in a state of shock, partially because of how quickly everything progressed, and had a little trouble breathing. Christy knew what to do immediately and got her breathing and feeding perfectly in no time. The postpartum care we received was incredible. I had pelvic floor issues and our baby had some skin issues and Christy and Jenni were always available to answer questions and connect us with a provider that could help if it was outside their realm. They are just. The best. Jenni and Christy helped my wife and I through two births, and unfortunately a few miscarriages. We first met them while interviewing for a midwife back in 2015. We interviewed a few other people around town, but instantly clicked with Jenni and Christy. They are warm, responsive, realistic and the best part - they really care about you, your pregnancy and your experience. Our meetings were sometimes long - filled with laughter in addition to medical explanations of my changing body. They took a few minutes each time to do the medical stuff, blood pressure/pee test/feel for baby...but then, the rest of the time they just wanted to know how I was feeling. I miss them. When my birth came around, Jenni was my rock. She is kind and gentle - her presence during the chaos of birth was invaluable. She kept me calm, centered and most of all, feeling safe through 8 hours of active labor and a 3 hours of pushing. My kiddo didn't want to come out, but they literally pulled out a bag of tricks: peanut yoga balls, weird positions, ropes to pull on and things to rest my legs on. They kept my spirits up, even when in those moments of wanting to give up. And, with their help I birthed a healthy little girl in the comfort of my home. It was amazing. Women are amazing. They dropped the ball the day my fiancé went into labor…read more After my fiancé's water broke at 2am, Erica made us wait 15 hours to see us at 5pm because the contractions weren't progressing enough for their standards. When we got there Erica began telling us how much work she had to do and that maybe we should think about going to the hospital since it had already been 15 hours. WTF???? She ultimately sent us home with some essential oils and told us to come back if contractions reached a certain point. She refused to help us, or let us stay and use the room we paid thousands of dollars for... She reminded us again of how much work she had to do that day We trusted these midwives to help us through the labor, ESPECIALLY if it wasn't going perfectly. We wanted someone who cared about our concerns, and our number one concern was a breech baby causing a C section. We hired the doula Erica recommended - both her and Erica said the baby was in perfect position for delivery and they even stopped me from helping my fiancé do some of the "spinning babies" exercises we learned during her pregnancy. Those exercises are designed to help a breech baby get into the correct position. Despite the fact my fiancé was not dilating more as the contractions slowly progressed over 20 hours both of these experts dropped the ball, acted completely confused, and stopped me from helping my fiancé. People like this are the reason I have trust issues, even when somebody claims to be an expert. I'd have done a better job without them. Our baby was breech that's why she wasn't coming out. They didn't have an ultrasound on hand at the birth center to verify the baby's position and when it really came down to it these people were useless when it mattered most. Because our baby stayed in the womb for so long she ended up having some meconium staining on her lungs and had to spend 5 days in NICU after her C section. Thanks birth center. And I wasn't going to say anything about this but why not? A couple times we were there my fiancé saw red flags like other people's urine samples in the bathrooms, and one of the midwives was barefoot for our whole appointment during which she let my fiancé's blood sample rest on the counter for an hour. The blood sample ended up being bad and we had to re draw at the next appointment. Totally wasted $6,600 on this place and the doula they recommended.
