Only downside is that the portion sizes were quite small and the servers took a very long time to come and take our order. Food did come fast though. It's just that we have to wait a really long time for our order to be taken. Garlic naan was very flavorful. Simple, but delicious. I was expecting something very fancy for the chili garlic naan but I think I preferred the garlic naan more. Dal Banzara was AMAZING! Large chunks of dal, and proper spicy too. So good! Murgh Makhan Wala was basically like butter chicken. Quite a creamy curry but I think it could have been a little more spicy. Felt fairly sweet at some point. Hariyali Kebab was very meh. Sister got this and said it was very plain; No flavor. Pistachio Lassi was a disappointment. There wasn't really much pistachio flavor; Mostly just lassi flavor with a hint of pistachio. This is the best Indian food I've eaten outside of India. We ordered the elaichi murg kebab, the goat sheekh, the Haveli daal and a cashew based chicken curry ( can't remember the name). All the food was spectacular. The have a real tandoor so the meat melts in your mouth! We were debating between this and other Indian restaurants in Florence and the ambiance definitely beats the other restaurants- I can't imagine the food anywhere else is better! This place is very popular with the locals -- they must be doing something right. BTW, they don't open till 7:30 PM, we arrived a bit early and found them closed. However, within moments of opening, this place was packed on a weekday. Nice! We sat in the main hall and later came to know that they have a nice open-air eating area inside. A little bit miffed that the waiter never made us aware of that option. Check out their open area in the back. So how's food? Well, it was served with a lot of love and attention but I must say, we were a bit disappointed with the Paneer dish - salty and paneer was really hard. Cheese not done right in Italy?! For the first time, felt like returning the entree. The yellow lentils were done right though. The mixed platter of appetizer was worth it and the tandoori rotis were baked well. We ordered the rotis without butter, but in retrospect, skimping on the grease was not worth it -- the bread stiffens quicker in its absence. I am on a tour of italy for the last 10 days. I went to Rome, the Amalfi coast and rural Tuscany. After eating Italian food for so many days I was longing for Indian food and found Haveli. I must say I have to join the other Indians in saying that this restaurant offers some of the best Indian food anywhere. We got nimboo soda, chicken korma, dal banjara, naan and chai. The food was great. The chai was perfect... Not watery and just enough sweet. It's evident that the owner is committed to high quality and goes that extra mile to keep his customers happy. The little touches matter too - free papad at the start, the ornate saunf box, the plate of raw onions sprinkled with chaat masala. Highly recommended! read more

After eating pastas and pizzas for a week, my taste buds were desperately searching for a more familiar taste. A taste of home... Seeing bright neon capital letters spelling 'HAVELI' while on our way back from a day out in Siena was a welcome sign to have Indian for dinner. After yelping and finding out several raving reviews, there was no stopping us. The restaurant is a short walk away from the bus station. We made it just as they were reopening at 7pm. Punjabi music played in the background as I eyed the Mughal-esque decor. We placed our brief order of chicken tikka (appetizer), butter chicken and palak paneer along with butter naan. I could hardly wait for the tikka boti to land on my plate so I can tear into the spicy concoction. Unfortunately, that was the only highlight. It wasn't especially mind blowing but definitely better prepared than the less than mediocre butter chicken and an even blander palak paneer. The butter naans were pretty good. Day 1 order - paneer pakora: 5/5 mind blowing, fresh paneer with great flavors and chutneys to complement it. We were on our 8 hr trip to Florence when we stopped by at Haveli for lunch. After having Italian food for last two days, our taste buds were craving Indian food and I am glad that I gave this place a try. Place is very nicely decorated and has ethnic feel to it. We sat in the front section which was a decent sized room (but they have seating in the back as well). I ordered Malai Kofta and Methi Paranthas and both were excellent. My husband ordered Gosht biryani and he liked it too. It was raining quite a bit so we ordered hot Masala tea and it was a perfect ending to our afternoon before we headed to the Doume! I highly recommend this place for scrumptious food and very friendly staff. 5 stars for food and hospitality. They literally made us feel home. Considering we live in London which is a Mecca of Indian food, and being Indian ourselves, our standards for Indian food are high. This place serves more Punjabi / mughlai style so it is heavy. Not a place for a healthy light meal. However the flavors are to die for. The elaichi (cardamom) chicken is soft and juicy. The baingan bharta is quite tasty albeit oily. The methi paratha is pretty great as well. The prices are low - fed the two of us for €23 An Indian restaurant in Florence doesn't need to be authentic. There isn't much competition, and the flavors could be diluted to cater to local tastebuds. However these guys really make the effort to be authentic and they absolutely deliver. As an Indian who is very snobby about Indian food, I have to say: this is THE BEST Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Ever. Including actual Indian restaurants in India. They don't even come close. My father and I had just arrived in Florence, and we were absolutely starving. He really wanted some Indian food, so we walked halfway across Florence to go to this restaurant, only to realize that it was closed for pausa. The wait staff saw us languishing outside, however, and asked us to come in. They immediately whipped up some dal and rice for us, because they knew we were hungry. When we offered to pay, they refused and said, "How could we not take care of you?" We decided to come back for a proper dinner and order as much food as we possibly could to make up for this. I am obsessed with Indian food and was super excited to try another place in Florence. We went as a group and the inside is surprisingly bigger than you would imagine, we walked through a courtyard and staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered samosas and different flavored naan to start. Both were delicious and comes with various sauces to eat with it. Most of us ordered Indian beer and some white wine, we all got different curry dishes (the menu is vast) and shared rice. Everything was really good and pretty abundant. I think ordering one rice for two or three is sufficient. I had a red curry dish with ginger and honey which was sweet but I loved it. They gave us special liquors for free to end the meal which was really nice of them and we ended up spending around 20 euros a head. So excited that we found this gem. Been studying abroad in Florence for about 4 months now and I've been missing food other than pizza or pasta. THIS PLACE is amazing. the service is so amazing; let me tell you, me and my two friends each ordered a mango lassi while we waited for our take out, and after we finished, the owner offered us another on the house. And then, with our takeout they provided forks and napkins and plates and a nice bag we felt like we came from a five star restaurant. The food was well packaged so nothing spilled on the bus ride back to school and it stayed warm even though we got a little lost on the way back! This is some amazing Indian food - it's authentic, family owned, and reasonably priced. I ordered the Samosa (2 pieces), Veg Haveli Biryani, Raita (to pair with the biryani), Karahi Panir, Chole Peshawari, Aloo Kulcha (naan), and Butter Naan. The saags were a tad bit oily but that's expected when eating out. I asked for them to all be medium spicy, and while they had a kick to them, they were all bearable and very tasty. In fact, it was so good we ate here twice, and one was takeout. For takeout we ordered the same things but 2 servings of biryani came in 1 container so we called them - thinking we only received 1 serving. They were nice enough to give us 1 free biryani free of charge just for the confusion. That is excellent customer service. Also, I didn't notice any distinct differences in food quality or portion size between eating in and getting take out so feel free to enjoy this from the comfort of your own home. The only downside is you will get charged for extra plastic cutlery and plates if you do takeout to your hotel or something. Restaurant is clean, cool, and has a nice ambiance. Lunch at Haveli on a Sunday. By far one of the best Indian restaurant in Italy.. We ordered Karahi paneer, Bengal bhartha, veg biriyani garlic naan onion kulcha and raitha. Each dish was great. Reasonable serving size as well. If you are in Italy over an extended period like us and craving for Indian cuisine you won't be disappointed visiting here. The staff was courteous could have been friendlier hence 4 star instead of 5.
