I don't know where to begin..we had been traveling and got back to our hotel quite late without getting dinner.. Decided to explore the area around the hotel and were craving Indian food and found this wonderful Indian restaurant just a few feet from our hotel. They were almost closing shop but welcomed us. Visiting from Los Angeles California we had been in London, France, and now Italy for 3 weeks. We had dined at Deshoom in London per multiple recommendations as well as a local resident. After having way too much Italian food we needed some Asian cuisine and found Spice India off a foodie review blog. Thanks krona food is top 3 cuisine by type for us. Upon entering Spice India we were greeted with a smile from Komal at the front reception desk. We came to find out Komal is one of the family that owns this restaurant. This restaurant is spotless and very clean. Almost all of the guests are Asian or Indian so you know they are very particular about their food. We ordered Palak Pakora and Vegetable Samosa for appetizer and then Aloo Gobi, Chicken Tandoori, and Chicken Tiki Masala (CTM), garlic Naan, and white rice. They start off with an amazing yogurt, spicy pickled vegetable dish, and wonton chips to snack on. When the food came out we were very impressed at how fresh and hot the food was. The kitchen served us as the food was prepared and ready so we didn't feel rushed to eat fast. The food quality, taste, and portion sizes were 10/10. We loved every bite and couldn't even finish the food even though we wanted to eat every last bite. If this restaurant were in Los Angeles California we would eat here weekly if not bi weekly. How can you communicate how special a place is with so few words? It's like seeing the Pisa and how impressive this structure is in person, what they say is pictures does not do it justice. Indian food done and served right. It's really hard to find a bad place to eat in Florence - for Italian food of course - but same can't be said for non-Italian food. The opportunity cost of not going Italian was really high and Gandhi came through. Their breads and the entrees were absolutely perfect. Serving portions were moderate to medium and the prices seemed right. Modest interior decor really hides a fairly seasoned and talented kitchen staff. One of my favorite restaurants in Florence. Hot take, I know, stay with me. After eating my fair share of Italian cuisine, my heart yearned for something more...spice. Gandhi (the restaurant) knocked on the carb barricades of my heart with love and lamb korma in hand, ready to bring my senses back to life...I've since been there 4 more times and have formed a somewhat friendship with Preet, the best worker at the joint. She always greets me with the biggest smile and after my meal, when I tell her I am too full for dessert, she always brings me something sweet anyway. read more

So happy that others gave this place high reviews. I made a rule to eat Chinese & Indian in every European city I visit, so this was my choice when in Florence! Located a little off the beaten path from the Duomo, Gandhi is a great Indian restaurant to eat at while in this amazing city. I found a great TripAdvisor deal they had. The place is very spacious, with a buffet area in the back. Plenty of Indian decorations and architectural details, which I appreciated. As an Indian-American, I have very high standards with the cuisine, so this place met them all. The owner was very nice and helpful in giving me options. I ultimately ended up picking one of their pre-set menus. In it, for roughly 25 Euros, I got a few appetizers, small portions of main chicken dishes that I ordered, and a dessert. I also ordered a large Kingfisher beer to enjoy the meal with. Needless to say, the food was delicious - the staff, incredibly friendly and observant, and overall the experience was fantastic. One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to- honestly surprised to have found it in Florence! Service is amazing and food is on point. I got the Karahi Chicken & Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Naan. The Mango Lassi was REALLY GOOD (special touch: add ice for it to chill). The Masala chai I wasn't a fan of- tasted a bit like condensed milk, but that's just my personal preference. Hidden in a non-tourist neighborhood of Florence, we found some of the most authentic and delicious Indian food we had encountered in Europe. We were 4 days into our Italian food and had craving for some desi food. Yelped Indian restaurant and had two choices with great reviews showed up. We opted for Gandhi and boy we were not wrong. The food was upto the mark (North Indian style). It was not super spicy. Just flavorful. We ordered Rashmi kabab from the grill butter chicke, chicken tikka masala and biryani along with cheese naam (must order) lacha paratha (must order) and garlic naam. Everything was great. Biryani was good but won't call it great. Everything else out of this world. Would recommend if you planning a visit to Florence and craving desi good food. Beware! This restaurant scammed us! We used the reservation app called TheFork by Tripadvisor to reserve a table at Gandhi Florence, which gave us 20% off. We informed them of our reservations when we arrived, as well as the 20% offer and they took our information. The app dictates that you simply need to inform them of the reservation, but we showed them the app and reminded them of the discount just in case. They confirmed and we went ahead with our order. We paid and didn't check the charges as we have used TheFork before and the restaurants always have honored the special price they list with. However, after paying, I got a notification that the restaurant canceled our reservations which led me to check the bill when we got back to hotel. Sure enough, they did NOT honor the 20% off and cancelled our reservation as soon as we left! On top of that, food was EXTREMELY oily and low quality. Not worth the 20% off price, let alone full price. Extremely unhappy. read more

On a 10 day trip to Florence, I ended up eating here 5 times. The food was consistently good. The palak paneer is out of this world. The veg samosa is brilliant here as well. One of the best places to go for authentic Indian food! I love the flavors here and the staff is really friendly and helpful. Being Indian, I like the fact that the food is absolutely authentic and healthy (not submerged in loads and loads of oil like other places). When you think of Italian cuisine Indian food doesn't come to mind. However, after two weeks of pizza and pasta on our Italian vacation we were looking to try something new. Gandhi was a walkable distance from our Florence accommodations and the meal met and exceeded our expectations. We arrived early by Italian time, 19:15, and over the course of two hours the restaurant filled up and the three servers were put to work quickly seating new customers, taking orders, bringing out plates and following up with those already eating. The server we had was very attentive and always polite. We ordered the preset meal (appetizer, entree, dessert, tea) with chicken and were treated to a very satisfying, flavourful and filling meal. For €17 I was more than impressed with the quantity and quality of food. The arrival of the dishes was well paced, and always tasting freshly prepared. Even the chicken tandoori arrived on sizzling skillet. We have had a lot of good meals in Italy and this one will be placed right up there with our good eats. read more
