We went to one place and they had a defined schedule for rides and were all booked. So drove over the Sombrero and were able to get a horse right away. We like Sombrero because horseback riding is "on demand." They don't have a set schedule. You get a horse whenever you are ready. They have great flexibility. Not only can you leave on the guided tour on your schedule, they offer different lengths of time. In July 2026, $50 for 30 minutes, $100 for an hour, and $135 for 2 hours. Cost is per person. There are longer trips too but I did not pay attention to that pricing. The kid and wife did 1 hour and really enjoyed it. Age requirement is 6 and up for a horse. They also have pony rides for kids under 6. The guides tend to be college kids who work for tips so be sure to tip them. Everyone who works here is super nice and friendly. The horses seem to be well cared for and happy. We were very pleased with the experience and undoubtedly will return the next time we are in Estes.

Kristin also runs her own business at blue cloud and it is called blue star farms. she is amazing at training teens and adults. She can train anything you put at her. The lower bar is all fixe d up and has a cozy indoor.the stalls in the upper barn are amazing, and the out door arena is spacious and roomy. The jumpers are painted bright and have cool patterns on the side. All though there are different businesses, every one works as a team and are great friends. Nobody is separated or into groups. Everyone gets along and not that many people are competitive. You do have to pay for turnout, which does make boarding pricy, but it sure is worth it! Blue cloud farms is pet friendly and they have a barn cat.

Nice local hike if you are in the longmont area…read more There are trash cans and a recycling can at the trailhead. However, there are no dog poop bags. if you are bringing your furry friend, be sure to pack some bags along with you. There are 3 different trails at the open space none of them overly long. The overlook trail is more rocky though not bad. There are also no trees. The loop trail has some trees but its not really shaded. The loop trail does have some lovely views. In september to at some point in January, the trail does close to hikers monday through weds. for "elk management" so be sure to check cotrex to see if trail is open or closed. Winter is really a great time to hike this area. The temps are cooler and the snow makes the trees and area look magical.

The prickly pears had just bloomed and we saw lots of birds and two different groups of mule deer. It's a great hike to take with kids. The elevation changes are gradual. You do share the trail with horseback riders and mountain bikers so be aware.
