Have the ability to tube and have the little ones play. Children can play, and there is also a kid pool (a definite bonus). I was afraid that it would get packed and we end up not being able to stay. So I was left behind, and my husband went back to get the rest of the family. Since it is Monday, I figure it is not going to get too busy. But, I am not going to take a chance. This spot should be on the list of visiting places. Especially right now that Boulder creek is closed and many other outdoor activities.

It was interesting to see the flood lines on the trees along the river. This is a free hike. We parked at the Rogers Grove Park lot and picked up the trail from there. It crosses under Hover St/N 95th St. It is an easy walk with very little elevation gain. We walked to the St. Vrain River Waterfall and watched the ducks for a bit. This was a lovely stop while making our way up to Fort Collins.

No. Does it feel like a bit of untapped nature within a short drive of your neighborhood making it easy to frequent? Absolutely! Many people walk, jog, and take their dogs here. I often see fishing as well. There are not too many bicycles. It is also great for any birders interested in water fowl, such as pelicans, cormorants, blue heron, and ducks. We have enjoyed taking our dogs to Golden Ponds over the years. With the area having a few ponds, you can switch up your walk. Some areas around the ponds are full sun and others offer a shaded reprieve. I have not had any issues finding parking, which is free. The park also has benches around ponds, canopied picnic tables, and flushing toilets in the restrooms near the entrance.

The trails here are twisty, gooey, flowing single tracks that open into picturesque views of vistas, overlooks and meadows with rocks, flagstone and stumps acting as natural obstacles. When you cruise down the Wapiti Trail, you are zooming into the seven levels of the wildflower forrest and your tires are sticking like half "sucked-on" gum drops to the grippy, tacky trail surface...like pizza sauce clings to a white blouse. Your eyes start to tear from the breeze, and it's so quiet, you can actually hear the echo cries of a Canyon Wren and your stretching cheek skin as a smile rips across your face. Then you do it all over again.

It was a beautiful hike, and we got to see some mule deer, which I had not expected. The downside is, despite all their bitching about how rocky the trail is, Wapiti is heavily used by mountain bikers, so you will quite frequently have to get off to the side to let them by. If you are looking for some peace, you may not find it as the avalanches of sweating and grunting macho bikers pump past you. I would use this as a training and exercise trail - save your bliss for the the real mountain trails where bikers are banned or unable to compete with hikers.

The woman I spoke to swore me to secrecy, asking that I not tell anyone about this relatively unknown trail, so I apologize to her for this Yelp review, not really. I had no car, so I Ubered to the trailhead (it was a short 15+ minute ride up a windy road). He dropped me off, and sped away, leaving me in the dust. More about this in a second. The trail is quite beautiful - I visited on a hot and dry August Sunday and it was not crowded at all. I wished that the streams and brooks had water flowing, but Denver had been experiencing a drought and so the beds were bone dry. You'll see many native plants, trees, and flowers, and nice views, but there's no grand vista, so to speak, but still scenic cliffs, meadows, and furs abound. After about an hour, the trail sort of teeters out and it becomes private property with signs indicating so. When I got back to the trail head, I discovered that there was no cell service, or perhaps one bar at best, so I couldn't connect with an Uber. I thought about walking until a cell service came, but I thought that the windy road with no shoulder would be where I died. So, I proceeded to ask people for a ride back to Boulder. I got a series of "no, way dude" you could be a murderer, probably remembering an episode of Dateline. Finally, I found two twenty-something dudes who I thought could maybe murder me, but beggars can't be choosers. I sat in the back of their falling apart SUV with the hairy, slobbering dog which I petted profusely to stay on its friendly side. They slowed down the car and let me off at a gas station. Despite this adventure, I highly recommend Anne U White Trail for a an interesting, scenic hike near downtown Boulder that is not too challenging or crowded and doesn't require all day. Oh, and I recommend you drive.

McIntosh is my favorite place to have an impromptu SUP drop-in the water and a frequented stop to take my dogs walking over the years. Parking is free and almost always easy to find. McIntosh does not test their water, so keep that in consideration, especially if you are taking dogs into the water as they can easily get sick or worse from any contaminated/algae bloom lake water. Learn what blue algae is and look for signs before entering.
