They are currently painted red and white, and I believe there should be designated rainbow-colored fire hydrants, for dogs with gender identity issues.
I called Longmont Public Safety chief, Mike Butler, concerning this issue, and he wasn't helpful AT ALL.
I told him my dog doesn't like to squat when she pees--she likes to lift her leg, and I needed to know that she is free to pee at the fire hydrant of her choice, without fear of discrimination.
Mr. Butler said that as far as he knew, Longmont TREES were transgender, so what was the problem? Mr. Butler didn't give a rip about equal rights for dogs to use the fire hydrant of their choice, regardless of gender identity. read more
