Came here this past weekend with the family and I had a better experience then I expected. This is a vegan restaurant I've been wanting to try with my family as we have members that dont eat meat. At first it did take me a moment to find the place as the building itself doesn't say the restaurant name (written on a chalk board) but thankfully found it and came at a time when it wasnt crowded. Inside definitely doesn't give restaurant vibes. It gives more of a home vibe and has alot of board games and crayons/paints you can do. Also they have a game console in the back which is pretty cool if you like playing Mario cart. It did seem a bit dark inside as not much lights were on but once sun came out was able to see. The guy that took our order was very nice and helped us understand some of the items on the menu. He even gave us a discount for being first time customers which I appreciated. It take take some time to get our food but when we did it was all fresh and hot. We had ordered a few tacos. My brother had the phish tacos and they were actually pretty good. It almost tasted like real fish and definitely would consider getting the next time I visit. They also have us some salsa which was also delicious and tasted great with all our tacos. I did like the potato and egg I had too. It did throw me off when I tasted it with corn tortilla but it was still good. I prefer potato and egg over the bean and cheese but that's just my preference. I did order the pozole soup with jack fruit and tasted pretty good. It looked really pretty and alot of good stuff in the soup. I do feel it needed some more lime or something else but it was good regardless. Overall it was a better experience than I expected and my family even said they would consider coming back here. This is a San Antonio Vegan Restaurant that's been open Since October 2020. Robert was our host/server (he's a very nice people person). The kids had Waffles & BBQ Cauliflower hash. Hubby had Buffalo cauliflower tacos. I had BBQ cauliflower tacos. Hubby and I shared an order of BBQ cauliflower hash and a waffle. This food was flavorful and delicious. Prices were very reasonable. This place has the most calmest most welcoming vibe just upon entering it. I'm not a fan of bright overhead lighting and this place had that nice ambiance with low lighting. The owner is absolutely amazing and can tell that he truly cares about the dishes he makes and the people he serves. Which warmed my heart to see someone function out of love and not rushing to make a buck. The food was absolutely amazing even my 9 year old loved it! We all tried each others food and man I got the waffles and chicken and it was so dang good! I had never tried a waffle that was cornbread topped with queso! But holy moly it was stellar! While visiting family, my 13 year old and I needed a lunch before heading to the airport. My kiddo found Hash after searching and we headed straight for it. At first, we weren't sure where to park because there is no obvious parking. There is a shop next door with a parking lot that you can use. We ended up parking on the street because we didn't want to get towed. The owner confirmed that you can use a lot though. Now for the food- holy heck that was amazing and I wish we lived close by. The prices are incredible and the food even better. We were met with the kindest welcome I've ever received at a restaurant and the owner was super helpful with descriptions so we could decide what to order. We shared the waffle breakfast stack, carne guisada tacos & a side of elote. Kiddo got the iced lavender matcha latte. The waffle was the perfect texture and full of flavor. The guisada tacos were so incredibly delicious I seriously considered ordering more and trying to get them home in my suitcase. I will be dreaming about those tacos for a long time. It's such a relief to be able to order food knowing it's safe. Kiddo and I are vegetarian, but one can't eat dairy and the other can't eat eggs, so vegan is our default. We've never been able to order elotes anywhere, and theirs are so delicious. Kiddo proclaimed their matcha the best they've ever had. We landed in Seattle after midnight (after 2 AM by the Texas time we were used to) and the first thing kiddo told their dad about was Hash Anytime we are visiting family down there, Hash will be on our must do list. This was a really chill, friendly vegan eatery, and I could see myself coming here a lot if/when I move to San Antonio. We were greeted with a smile and kind word, and he even let us bring our small dog inside while we ate. They have a really kickin' mocktail menu, and the Michelada was tops. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that I ordered a Monte Cristo, but I got some sort of breakfast sandwich instead (I think it was the Moon Over My Hammy or something like that?). This is one of my favorite places in San Antonio. I don't know what I would do if it were to close like some of my other beloved vegan spots. HASH is more than just a restaurant it's like you just feel welcomed to come in and chill even if you don't have a lot of money. The restroom is gender neutral and offers free tampons and pads for anyone who needs them. I love not having to feel uncomfortable using the restroom as a genderqueer person. And there are cute string lights hanging around that make for a very mellow atmosphere, great for a date night. I ordered the BBQ Chick-N macaroni bowl, which was served very quickly. And my god, it was the best mac and cheese I've ever had. The Chick-N was made with fried cauliflower, and with my first bite, it was so surprisingly crispy on the outside. And with my second bite, I could notice the satisfying soft chewy texture of the inside. All of this perfectly complemented the macaroni, covered in a really tasty cheesy sauce. This was my first time trying vegan food in San Antonio and it did not disappoint! At first I was a bit skeptical because of the area, but trust me the inside was much nicer! The vibes of the restaurant inside were very communal based because I saw the restaurant had a small community food panty and an art supply pantry! There was also incense so it smelled amazing, the music was chill, and the seating options are nice. The owner took our order and was so cool! I wanted to try everything on the menu but what we ordered was bomb and came fast! The indoor seating is limited, but they have a lot of outdoor seating on either sides of the restaurant. I liked the ambience outside more than the inside, but not too bad. The service and the people in general were very kind and welcoming. Everything was so good, it's hard to pick one. Probably the only ones that were kinda average were the cilantro rice combos. Rest was excellent. I would highly recommend this place. Phish Tacos, Banana Brûlée Waffle, Veggie Hash, Potato and Egg Tacos, Omelet- 10/10 (Haven't had better vegan versions of these before. In the more than 2 years I've been going to HASH, I can't believe I've never left an official review. A veteran of the restaurant and hospitality industry myself, I've worked in countless fine dining establishments, and notably at 3 different 3 Michelin starred restaurants. I can easily say that HASH is the most consistently delicious food I've ever had, and I've worked and dined a plenty in Boston, NYC, the Bay Area and Napa Valley. The only other restaurant I can say holds a candle to the consistency and quality of taste to HASH is Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bistro in Yountville, where I used to dine very regularly when I lived in Napa. I've brought family and friends to HASH, and each time, every one of them has been blown away - and my guests are never vegan, and had never had exposure to vegan food much if at all, before trying HASH. My personal favorite are the Phish Tacos. Do not sleep on these!!! Runner up are the Potato & Egg tacos. This week they had throwback Frito Pie, and it blew us away. HASH is a safe space for anyone in recovery, and their mocktails are out of this world good. Again, this coming from a very experienced palate (and certified Sommelier). Sometimes I even get one to go! Last but FAR from least, the service at HASH is stellar. If you're looking for friendly conversation, and a chill environment, you've come to the right place. Roger and team provide an exception service experience. Have questions? Do not hesitate to ask them anything!! They're happy to very kindly school you on any ingredients you're unfamiliar with. You won't find a more caring service team in any vegan restaurant in SA, or in most restaurants, for that matter. If the Southside seems like a far drive, take it from this very experienced diner - it's worth it. When I fly in to visit, I literally go straight from the airport to HASH almost every time. What a cool little place on the southside of town. We were riding our bikes on the Mission trail and took a side path to try this place out. People working behind the counter were great at explaining some of their items and helping with suggestions. I got the buffalo hash and the bartender made a drink. Not sure of the drink, but it was refreshing. The hash was solid for a vegan dish with flavor popping out of the cauliflower.
