Fast Eddie's came to mind. Yay! I drove over there, which is perhaps a five-minute drive from the rest stop. Double that time if you don't have a lead foot. I was about the turn right to pull into the parking lot, but a car decided to position itself in the middle of what would have been for him to exit and me to enter. Ugh! On a happier note, I drove around the block and spotted a Hakka restaurant. I added yet another bookmark. I finally pulled into the parking lot. You have the option of hitting the walk-up window to place your order (so cool!) or going through the drive-thru. I did the latter. There were perhaps two cars ahead of me. There was a lot to look at on the menu. What should I get? I went with the double burger works. I made it a combo with fries and a Diet Pepsi. I looked at the milkshakes and thought about ordering it, but I wasn't feeling it. Next time! My combo was just under $9. That's pretty good. Debit cards are preferred, although it does accept any tap method. The man at the window opened it halfway and brought out the machine. I paid with my debit card. Easy peasy! It had two beef patties that are thinner than I had expected, but the flavour was amazing. I felt like I was eating a salad with protein in a bun. I needed it considering how I had inhaled my fries. The lettuce, onions, pickles, and tomatoes were so fresh. This burger had ketchup and mustard. I normally don't like mustard as a burger condiment, but I ate it all without scraping it off. I am a fan. I am now eyeing the steak cheese burger. I set goals that I know that I can achieve. My Diet Pepsi washed everything down. It wasn't watered down. It was just the way it should be. The woman handling the lunch rush during Covid was doing her best, but Swiss Chalet needs to support her better by adding additional staff on that shift. The website indicated that the resto didn't open until lunch, which was accurate, but you can call the helpline before that to place your order. Guests are asked to wait outside if someone is already inside picking up food. The woman who was there on her own appeared to be handling the orders coming in from the helpline, packaging the food and handling walk-ins. She couldn't help me immediately upon arrival, which I understood. I hope that she wasn't also cooking the food, because I didn't see anyone else either time that I was inside. I tried the new crispy chicken sandwich ($14). It comes with mayo and slaw on top, a pickle spear, choice of sides and a small container of SC sauce. The spicy version costs $1 more. The piece of chicken is about the size of a standard burger. The bun was good, nothing special. Generous amount of fries on the side. It was okay, but isn't a great value for the money. The packaging was far too large for the portion. SC should be looking to reduce their environmental impact; more attention to the packaging would be a start.
