Working in Montreal for a couple of weeks and it's dinnertime. I usually will head into downtown to…read moreget dinner, but I was feeling lazy this evening so I did some Yelp'ing around what was near me. I found Twister Burger which was didn't have a large amount of ratings, but they had a big menu so I chose them! Here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right off a pretty wide street that doesn't seem like a main road is this gem. There's no private parking lot so you'll have to park on the street in the neighborhood, but I didn't have a hard time finding space. Once inside you're transported back to like... the 40s? 50s? Whenever the soda fountain era was with the black/white checkered walls, neon lights and the whole thing. Lol. It was cute. The restaurant is fairly small and that's okay! It makes for a more comfortable and cozy feel. I got my food to go so I didn't have to stay long. Service: The gentlemen behind the counter was very helpful and make sure I got everything that I needed. He also helped me since most of the menus are in French. Food: I started off with their Taco Salad, but as of now I don't see it listed on their menu anymore. Anyway, it's basically their now Southwest Salad which contains mixed greens, corn, red onion, avocado, fried tortillas and shredded cheese, served with chipotle ranch. But instead of being in a bowl, it's in a fluffy, crispy taco shell which was very flavorful and enjoyable. It worked well. The name of the place is called Twisted Burger so I had to try at least one of them. I decided on the Trio Diablo Burger which is 130g beef (1/3 lb), jalapeños, monterrey jack cheese, habanero salsa, grilled onion, chipotle mayonnaise and lettuce, and tomatoes. It kinda slid apart in transport, but I was able to put it back together at my hotel room and it was fine. Nothing super crazy or explosive to report. It was a decent burger and satisfied my cravings for sure. The beer-battered onion rings were okay too. Nothing special and I don't think I was expecting anything out of this world either. Most beer-battered onion rings taste the same, so it's good that it's a familiar flavor to recognize. Value: My taco salad was $14.95CAD, my burger was $10.95CAD and my onion rings were $4.95CAD. This is a GREAT DEAL on the amount of food I had for sure. Looking for a cheap date, something quick, nothing fancy, I dig this place for sure.

Guy la Patate, how I love saying that name!…read more This place is located on a strange strip of Grande Allee Boulevard and has existed as a fast-food joint for many years. I decided to take the plunge and try it out the other day and I wasn't disappointed. Like you might expect from a sort-of-dicey fast-food joint, this place serves up some nice greasy eats. We ordered a jumbo poutine, which had the largest pieces of cheese I've ever seen on a poutine! It was pretty darn good. The hot dogs are your standard fare, and I just had to try the burgers when I saw that they were served on some funny looking bread. The burger was definitely different from what I was expecting. The home-made patty was pretty decent, but the fixings were unique. Inside the flat-topped sesame seed buns was a layer of relish, onions, and... saurkraut! It was a tasty experience, and I'd order it again, although the burger could benefit from the juiciness of a tomato slice. Beware though, as you'll end up smelling like a ball of grease once you leave the place... but it just might be worth it.

The good: Food is terrific! Lots and lots of staff. Service quick. Smiling cashiers. Food fresh. Restaurant clean. Lots of parking spaces. Good on custom orders. Good portions. The bad: The only bad thing that stands out is this place is really pricey. Your bill can stack up pretty quickly if you order anything outside of hot dogs. For example, one pogo is about $3, and yet you can get a box of four for a dollar or two more at the supermarket. If you do not mind paying a tad more, then you are in for a treat as you will have probably the best fast-food in the area.

I've been going to this restaurant 1-2x a week for the past couple of months and I'm sick and tired…read moreof their bullshit. I take my orders to go as I live 15 minutes away and I had to drive back because my food was inedible TWICE in the last 3 weeks. The first time, one of the employees put about an inch of relish on my burger, making it a soggy mess. The second time, my burger was raw (the entire inside of the patty was pink). The first time, the employee (blonde ladie, maybe a manager) offered me a refund and a new burger, I declined the refund since mistakes can happen and they were very apologetic. The second time, they just made me a new burger without offering me a refund (different employee this time) I would have actually taken a refund this time because I was very pissed off. But hey, I guess I should be grateful that I got a new burger with my (now cold) poutine, and having wasted an hour driving back and forth. Especially for $25. How does a restaurant get away with being this inconsistent? When the food is good, it's great, but it's subpar 20% of the time, and 5-10% of the time it's inedible. For this price point, this is absolutely unacceptable. They lost me as a customer.
