I can't remember the exact amounts paid but I can tell you the difference between buying it new from a department store and new from HV outlet was $1000, as it was the model just finished and HV was making room for the next in coming model that's the reason it was at their factory outlet. That's it...we saved $1000, got full warranty, wasn't a scratch n dent and it's still going strong, best investment. It also had alot to do with being in the right place at the right time, all the stars aligned and all that jazz. The great thing is that quite often, there's the tiniest of dents or scratches which is stopping them from being sold in the normal shops. The way to shop here is to go to the regular HN stores, find something you want, look at where it is going in your house and know which surfaces are not important. For example, our fridge will be against a wall on its left side, so I could have bought one with a huge scratch on that side. I ended up getting a brand new Fisher and Paykel fridge and washing machine with a hefty discount. Also, they offer an extended warranty and delivery. The fridge has a tiny dent on the front which you can barely see and the washing machine has a scratch on the side, but as it's being built in, it won't be seen. They also have TV's, coffee machines, washing machines, cooktops and ovens, heaters, air conditioners and more. Definitely worth checking out. Also, all the items are tested to check that they still work fine.

It's fantastic place to get a good price on old electronics like flat screen tv's and computers especially. All the things they sell are still in good working order, and if they are damaged in some way, they are repaired or refurbished before they are sold. The goods come with warranty so you don't have to worry that you might be stuck with a lemon the moment you buy it. Because they are ex-rental, alot of the electronics they sell can range from a couple of months to a year to 2 years old, which in electronics years can be quite a significant amount of time. Still, I think alot of people get overly hung up with buying the newest and greatest tech when something which is a year or 2 old will do the job if you know what it is exactly that you want. A great place to get a bargain on ex-rental electronics which work and come with all their components, this is where I will normally look if the likes of eBay fail me.

If an attendant comes up to you and you're not ready to buy I would still recommend latching onto them and making small talk like, "that washing machine sure is white" and "it weighs 20kg you say?" until you make a decision because you won't find another one for a good 15 to 20 minutes. Despite the painfully long waits, and the fact you have to stand in your department to wait, or someone else will jump in line, the staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and straight up about quality and value for money. Don't try asking the fridge guy about televisions though, he'll tell you he doesn't know about that "new-age" stuff. It'd be great if they had a ticket system like at the butcher shop so you could continue to browse and end up buying more stuff while you wait. He started to give me free advice, like how often I should defragment and deformat my computer. And then we breached over into the topic of computer games, and we started to swap stores and (virtual) experience. I checked no less than 3 times with the warehouse guy during 3 separate telephone conversations. I was assured 3 times that the battery they could supply would suit my computer. It did not. When I presented myself and the incompatible battery for a refund the proprietor took the battery behind the counter to the office/store area to check that it was "one of ours" ... "It's just normal procedure" he said. He reappeared several minutes later claiming that the battery I had returned was indeed not one of theirs. The lengthy "discussion" that followed eventually resulted in a begrudged refund ... no apologies or attempts to supply an appropriate battery for my extremely common Macbook Pro were forthcoming. In my opinion the warehouse guy was having a very bad day when he supplied the battery on the day of purchase. The front counter sales person on that day is an honest bloke and supported me during the "discussion" on the day of return/refund. The proprietor on the other hand is shonky at best ... beware ...
