I honestly can't believe how heartless River Road Animal Hospital turned out to be. I've been…read morebringing my dog here as a patient, but after today, I will never return. I arrived 30 minutes before they even opened because my dog was experiencing severe anal bleeding -- an emergency by any reasonable standard. There were no other cars or clients waiting, and yet I was told they wouldn't see her without an appointment and the soonest available time was over two hours later. It's absolutely heartbreaking and frustrating to know that a veterinary office, where compassion and urgency should come first, refused to even evaluate a bleeding dog simply because of scheduling convenience. There was no effort to triage, no concern, no basic decency to at least check if she was in critical condition. If this is how they treat established patients in distress, I can only imagine what kind of care (or lack thereof) others might receive. Do better, River Road Animal Hospital -- pets deserve compassion, not cold policy.

They're great with the animals but absolutely terrible with the owners...rude and obnoxious (front…read morestaff and techs) vets are outstanding...the office manager loves to be a dictator and toss in ridiculous and uncalled for policies...if you are going to add policies, post them on your website. If you dont follow their added policies-be prepared to get kicked out of the practice. I gave them nearly 13 years of my life and tons upon tons of money. Once they kick you out...dont expect to get added medications until you find a new vet...they will allow your animals to suffer!

I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Hartman for about 20 years. He is an excellent Vet for dogs,…read morecats, birds, and other animals. Last time I was at the office, there were two Guinea Pigs waiting to receive services. My 14 year old Jack Russell had congestive heart failure. He informed me that there was a specialist in the area, but I was not interested in extreme measures at this point. I asked what he could do. He responded that he could prescribe diuretics. My dog lived another year. I brought her there to be cremated when she died. His practice accepts reduced payment options for neutering dogs and cats I like his quiet low key manner which puts pets and owners at ease. His office staff is capable and efficient. The office has his exotic bird pet in a large cage. There is a stunning and large stained glass artwork in the front window that I heard was accepted as barter for medical care. How cool is that. Parking is on the street.

I'm sorry, we really tried to love this place. It is good if you only have maybe 1 pet, but…read morehonestly the office just needs to be more organized and efficient. It takes a lot of phone tag to get medical records or even to schedule an appointment. I have great respect for Dr. Hartman's expertise but this office would greatly benefit from hiring more staff and increasing their hours. Maybe it's just the size or outdated look, but I hope they can improve. With all respect.

I went there that morning after she threw up blood tinged vomit and was hiding in the corner. I knew it was time I called and was told bring her in asap it was a Saturday at 10 and when I arrived the receptionist told me Dr Hernas was mad at her for telling me to come in since she was the only one there and hated putting animals to sleep. I get it it's not easy but really my cat was terminal !!! After examining her she said she seems fine gave me meds for the vomiting and treats and take her home. Well needless to say I ended up taking her to an emergency hospital and she was put to sleep that day !! They were incredible there such compassion !!! It is exactly a year ago today. I will never go there again !!! I had a previous kitty that Dr Alan saw and was great. Dr Hernas is very rough around the edges. No vet should ever get mad at the office staff for having an emergency that may require someone's beloved pet put down. Heartless !!! I miss my baby so much it was so hard to do but how we were treated was so unprofessional !!! Go somewhere else !!!

Naturally he ran. They chased him around the room, caught him in a towel and proceeded to do their "check" roughly. The cat was in panic mode as they checked his mouth, prying his mouth open and almost getting bit ( i wouldve bit too). In comparison i now take my animals to Cornerstone which is wonderful. Very very gentle, felloway towels, calm, professional staff. They allowed him to come out of carrier on his own. Gentle nail clipping, etc. The cat was so calm I couldnt believe it was the same one.

Told by the office to call in each morning to see if there are any cancelations. I called the next day as instructed and there was one in 1.5 hours but would be charged an extra $40 as an emergency visit. 1) Outrageous that Dr. Geagan does not work in my cat, who has vomiting, losing weight (despite my syringe feeding him), and generally has deteriorated in his health (since his last visit 1 1/2 months ago) in a timely fashion (a few days)--earlier than 10 days without forcing me into pay an extra $40 when I called the next morning to check for cancelations. 2) Theoretically, the cancelation may have happened yesterday morning after I called at 9:20. And up until 10:10 am (the offered appt today when the office was called at 8:30am) the person who canceled would have received their $50+ deposit back. Otherwise, they lose the $50 and the the next person pays $40 extra. Nice padding of $90 for scheduling alone. Also if so, I'm on the cancellation list but was never called yesterday nor even this morning.
