First, they were able to get my cat in very quickly after our initial call, which I truly appreciated. They actually cared about my cat's previous history, which I honestly wasn't expecting, and went to great pains to get her records from the previous vet, which ended up being very helpful, as they were able to use a previous x-ray instead of performing a new one. During the exam, they asked a number of detailed questions - about her weight, about her diet, about the exact issues that she's been experiencing - and they actually listened to my concerns. Then, instead of blowing me off, they agreed with my concerns and immediately formulated a plan to figure out what was wrong! After running some blood work, looking at the x-ray, and doing an analysis of urine and feces, they found that my poor kitty has a UTI. They immediately called to let me know the results, and presented me with treatment options. They were very up-front about pricing, which I very much appreciate, but more importantly, they were concerned and involved with my pet's care in a way that my previous vet was not. Nature ran its course, and my cat died while I was at work that same day. I called to cancel the appointment for the next a.m., and the staff person I spoke with was compassionate and sympathetic. Yesterday, I received a sympathy card, and I was so moved by this simple, but thoughtful gesture. The front of the card read: "Always remember you gave your pet the most precious gift of all.... A life filled with love and affection" and inside were handwritten messages from all their staff. Dr. Linendoll had only treated my cats on three or four other occasions, but each time she was wonderfully gentle and put them completely at ease. When my now departed cat had strayed in the neighbor's fenced backyard and got bit in her hindquarters while trying to outrun the dog and slip under the gate, everyone at Collar City was so concerned and patient in explaining every treatment option and giving me direction on how to care for the wound. I would highly recommend them for their skill and compassion.

I love that the rabies vaccines for dogs and cats are free with a suggested donation of $8 per pet. These days some pet owners can barely afford to raise their pets and every little bit helps! I brought both my dog and cat to the clinic held on a Saturday afternoon on Elm Avenue Park in Delmar. Everyone involved in running the clinic was so kind and patient. I didn't take photos of the clinic or the fur patients because some pets were extremely anxious and needed to be calmed down. I didn't want to complicate matters. They told me that my pets got vaccinated without a hitch. As long as you can provide proof of prior rabies vaccination, your pet can receive a rabies shot good for three years. The clinics are held through the summer and into early autumn. You'll need to check your county health dept. website under "rabies clinic schedule." I see that both Rensselaer and Albany counties will each be holding one more clinic in October. I really appreciate the work that the Humane Society does to keep our pets safe.

All the vets have been great about answering our questions, addressing our concerns, and giving us a range of options for our pets - especially our senior dog with arthritis, who hasn't had great luck with NSAIDS. Our kitten had some complications with her spay, and then we poked her in the eye trying to give her antibiotic pills, so we ended up coming in here 5 times in 2 weeks just for her. She's all good now, but the vet and front desk were awesome - everyone always had great attitudes, and the vets were super helpful. They were also complete dears about bribing our kitten with tasty treats so she wouldn't get too traumatized about vet visits. This is the kind of place you hope not to visit too often, but you feel comfortable knowing they'll do what they can to make sure your pets are healthy and happy when you do.

This is an edited review after calling this morning to try to figure out why I was suddenly charged…read morealmost $500 unexpectedly. The kennel had forgotten to charge a previous 2 night stay. They told me at one point that they don't keep a card on file, but I had given them my debit card to charge that stay and they forgot to do it. So when they remembered, rather than calling me and letting me know they were going to charge my debit card, they just charged it out and sent an invoice that said December 30. I changed my debit card number yesterday and will never give it out again this way to a business. When I called to find out what was going on, there was absolutely no accountability for the financial impact of forgetting to charge my card and then doing it without at least notifying me first. This was the culmination of several issues with the clinic. I won't go back.
