I have been to Hartley s a couple of times now. I was never in Picton after 5PM so it took some time for the stars to align to get me in there. I am thankful they did. It was spectacular. I went with my wife, we decided after looking over the menu that it was going to be one of our "Apps Nights" where we graze the appetizer menu heavily first and in most cases, completely and skip the entrees. The atmosphere is brilliant. Not overdone but dark and cosy, with lots of dark wood and barn board. Toss in lots of little light sources and the effect is dark, cozy and calming. The place just sets you up to take a deep breath and relax. As a filmmaker I could rave about the light all day. i hope I can do a video for them someday LOL OK. Food and beverage. Beer selection is solid with lots of local (Barley Days and Strange Brewing), a few regional (MacKinnon Brothers Brewing) and a couple of far flung standards like Sapporo. The bartenders are all owners most busy nights (Jim and Janine) and they are solid at the craft. The Somm is very capable, especially for varied pallets. The staff are, as most people will recognize who live in Prince Edward County, friendly face to most of us as they have worked at many other establishments. Service is top notch at all times. You all know what I like, attentive without hovering, and knowledgable about the offerings. Honest enough to go ask if they don't. Jared (Jim and Janines son, chef and yes I am going to say it, Food Wizard) runs the kitchen. His approach is daring, flavourful, and he has nailed everything I have tried there. His pates is killer and his take Creme Brule damn near made me cry. The selection of oysters is always top notch. Fresh, and a good mix of compatible varieties to make you slurping rewarding. I wis I lived closer. I could make this place my 5 o'clock join in a heartbeat. I will need a few more visits to lock in my feelings. Perhaps 10 or 15 more dinners, an Ill give everyone a final read....LOL

The host seated us on the uncovered patio because the covered patio was reserved for guests without dogs. It did start to rain and the host came over to give us a table in the covered patio. Our chorkie is very well behaved and quiet. We ordered 2 lobster rolls one with house salad and the other with fries. The food did not disappoint. There's a decent amount of lobster loaded on a buttered po'boy. We really enjoyed the lobster rolls and would definitely order it again. The house salad was fresh and delicious. The fries were fresh cut and crispy. The server was very friendly and also brought a bowl of water for my chorkie. The service here is top notch and I would recommend coming here for lunch or dinner. We just missed out on their brunch menu which also had some tasty options. If you like small town hospitality along with quality food then mark this place on your bucket list. There was a nice patio on the outside and a small eating area on the inside. The house was nice enough to spit the pizza in half to give us two flavours! #5 - Pizza dough was good, parts of the crust was a bit burnt, so cook was on the uneven side. Considering the toppings the pizza was a white pizza and really unique but works well together. Would recommend. Pizza of the moment - #2 with hot honey - overall everything was also a good mix. Sausages were a bit too spicy for me, but the heat was well balanced with the honey and creaminess. Nice to try.

Got their duck and balsamic glaze pizza as well as the pesto with artichoke. The pizza has a nice crust. The balsamic glaze one was a bit too sweet for my taste but the pesto had a delicious creamy flavour. We had their hummus with pita, which lacked depth from some much needed salt and lemon. Their pretzel bites were amazing with the sweet garlic and mustard sauces, could not get enough of that. For the drinks, we ordered ciders which we found was more like sparkling soda than a cider. The flourless chocolate cake was decadent and super rich.

What a great end to an already great day in Prince Edward County…read more We came for dinner after being delighted by the vinegars at Black Prince Winery and the liquors at Kinsip Spirits. FYI the gps took us to a collection of buildings called The Warehouse which contains a fancy lodge, a reception area, and a few other things. This restaurant is located past/behind the Reception building and immediately adjacent to the Cookery. Perhaps because of the hot weather and perhaps because it was a Monday night, there was almost no one there and we got the pick of any of the dining areas they offered (garden area, dining room, bar, standard, and patio). We opted for the patio and enjoyed being the only ones there even though it was a bit warm. Seriously, this place is huge and can probably accommodate 100 tables or more despite it looking like a cute, ivy-covered, European-inspired cottage. We opted for the Crispy Chicken Sandwhich and the Fish and Chips plus a beer (Parson's Westy Pale Ale). Our server was so sweet, bubbly, and helpful. I wish I could remember her name but she had long dark hair worn back in a ponytail. She knew a lot about the menu, including the sweets, and helped us choose the Coconut Cream Pie for dessert. The food itself was delicious! Chicken in the CCS was sweet and tangy with great texture and crisp, and the sandwhich was really well balanced with the pickles and slaw. I love me some spice, so I would have opted for a spicy sauce over a sweet one, but it was still a great sandwhich. The house salad it came with was yummy too--greens, cucumbers, and carrots with pepitas and a creamy apple cider dressing. I didn't try the fried fish in the FnC, but SO said it was pretty good. The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned with flaked sea salt. The Coconut Cream Pie was excellent. The pie filling was light and creamy and not super sweet, and the crust was definitely homemade graham cracker with a lot of extra sweetness to complement the light filling. I must say it wasn't the best CCP I have ever had (Tartine in San Francisco makes one simply out of this world) but it was still really nice. Overall, great experience and will return.

The waitress must have noticed our confusion because she asked if we were waiting for out friends. We stated that we were and she brought us down the hall to this second room which was very open and definitely had a more bar feel to it. We initially picked this place due to it's cheap prices and variety of food. Service was great! Despite only one lady being both the bartender and server she was friendly and attentive and had no problem with our big group. At one point one of the plates of food she was carrying out slipped and crashed onto the floor. She quickly replaced the meal and apologized to the person in our group who ordered it. The reaction to the food from the people in our group did very from it was ok to it was great. Everyone agreed it wasn't bad and that the service and drinks were great though. I ordered spiked pink lemonade drink, and Chicken fingers with medium sauce and fries with gravy on the side. I was initially worried the sauce would make the chicken fingers soggy but thankfully it didn't. The sauce was just the right mix of kick and flavor. The fries were great, similar to a new York style of fries and the gravy was delicious. My pink lemonade drink was awesome! For only $6 it was definitely a good choice. I recommend making a reservation to avoid disappointment. We were early for our reservation and the hostess was able to give us a table. There are 2 dining rooms with different themes. The front room has a beautiful bar beside the open air kitchen. The dining area has a nice bright rustic ambiance. Definitely, a great place for date night. The rear dining room has a lounge feel. The light is dimmed and tables have candlelights. There's nice lounge music playing here as well. Now for the food. The menu is divided into 3 sections: Tapas del bar - small dishes to share and sample some curated Spanish delicacies. Grande provides a selection of main course entrees. Paella is a Valencian rice dish that is great for sharing and served on a large cast iron skillet. We ordered the jamon croquetas. The croquetas were served with pickles and garlic aioli. They are delicate and packed with flavor. The second tapas we ordered was the Albacore tuna served with bulgur cracker. The dish was esthetically pleasing and we really enjoying the green liquid sauce. Very impressive dish. For our main we decided to share the seafood paella which consisted of Argentina red shrimps, organic salmon, and mussels. The rice was flavorful and we love the crispy rice on the bottom of the skillet. This dish checked all the boxes in flavor, presentation, and texture. We finished our meal with the grand finale: Spanish Churro. This is not your regular churro. This was shaped like a cinamon bun and you have two delightful dipping sauces - dolce de leche and dark chocolate. This was by far the best churro I've ever had. Overall, the experience was exceptional and I recommend this place if yoi are looking to try some elevated Spanish cuisine. The server was attentive and provided advice on how to eat each dish. The prices are on the higher-end so plan on spending about $50-$75 per person.
