The staff are young, energetic, and amazing. Our (hyper active twice-exceptional) kids were *well* taken care of all week, so mommy and daddy could visit with other adults(!), and go on quiet hikes, and exciting adventure activities! However, a member of my family was offered (multiple) jobs at the camp, and learned that the staff are paid $325 per week, for working 6 days at 12-16 hours per day. Since the staff are given camp food and housed in shared cabins, there is some sort of math that makes this non-criminal. This is exploitation, and not the sort of thing I would expect out of an allegedly philanthropic organization. I will still be returning.

He does martial arts but hates all other sports. His favorite part of JRC is sleeping outside. He also loves mountain boarding, archery and fishing. He does chores willingly and successfully at JRC whereas there are many more complaints at home. If I sent my daughter here, she'd probably hate it because she doesn't want to sleep outside. My son didn't love it from the get go, he missed home. That's pretty normal, and he got over it. In the beginning years, he might falter in his excitement because he was afraid of the dark but that faded too. Send your kids if you think they'd might like it. It's a growing experience that is harder to find these days.

They typically attend for a two week session and have consistently returned thrilled, having tried many new activities, having loved their counselors and made many new, great friends. Activities include: Horses, Archery, Paddle Boarding, Swimming in the Lake, Banana Boats, Biking, Rock Climbing, and Tomahawk Toss. Our kids report that the food is great, the songs and campfires are fun, the activities are great and there is nothing about it that they don't love. As a parent, it is easy to stay in touch...the Director (who is wonderful) posts a detailed summary each day on their password protected website of what is happening at Camp each day, and about 100 candid photos are posted each day to show what is going on around the Camp. The pictures are a great way to (sometimes) see candid shots of your kids and still feel in touch. The kids are able to get letters everyday and larger "care packages" once a week so you can stay in touch. We have interacted with the owners, nurse, and camp management on several occasions and have been impressed every time. These folks are great professionals! We will continue to send our kids to this remarkable Camp and commend Skylake for being such an oasis. Keep up the great work! Skylake is a dream...a 5-star camping experience!
