My daughter enjoyed her time at Camp Sequoia Lake. The location is beautiful and peaceful. Camp sits right next to the lake.

They typically attend for a two week session and have consistently returned thrilled, having tried many new activities, having loved their counselors and made many new, great friends. Activities include: Horses, Archery, Paddle Boarding, Swimming in the Lake, Banana Boats, Biking, Rock Climbing, and Tomahawk Toss. Our kids report that the food is great, the songs and campfires are fun, the activities are great and there is nothing about it that they don't love. As a parent, it is easy to stay in touch...the Director (who is wonderful) posts a detailed summary each day on their password protected website of what is happening at Camp each day, and about 100 candid photos are posted each day to show what is going on around the Camp. The pictures are a great way to (sometimes) see candid shots of your kids and still feel in touch. The kids are able to get letters everyday and larger "care packages" once a week so you can stay in touch. We have interacted with the owners, nurse, and camp management on several occasions and have been impressed every time. These folks are great professionals! We will continue to send our kids to this remarkable Camp and commend Skylake for being such an oasis. Keep up the great work! Skylake is a dream...a 5-star camping experience!

Gosh, I just popped on here to see if the camp was still around after all the fires a few years…read moreback, and I'm so glad it is. My daughter started going to this camp 25 years ago and stayed for 10 years! She got her 10-year jacket, which she still has, and used her GAC blanket through college. She looked forward to camp every year and every year she would come back a very happy, content, and more independent than she was when she left. Worth every dollar we spent!

*** "Gold Arrow Camp is absolutely f-i-n-e" ... ***…read more At least that is the one-liner my 10yo keeps saying. He went there for a 2-week sleepover this summer. Twas his very first stint staying at an overnight camp. He enjoyed it so much, that he wants to ret'n for 1mo! From what he tells me, he likes the variety of activities: archery, hi-ropes, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, sailing, riflery, ziplining, hiking, backpacking, waterskiing, wake boarding, mountain climbing, camping, art & crafts. The bus picks up the kids at the Cheviot Hills Rec Center. Then you do not see nor speak with them until they return. The only correspondence permitted is via email or USPost. They also post daily picks of the kids at play to the web site. Twas a great way to help build a kid's sense of independence. That was my motivation to send mine here. We're both happy. I only had marbles and a fishing pole when I was in camp! (lol) *** Gold Arrow is pricey but it is a great way to cut the cord. ***

My two…read moreboys, ages 7 and 10, just finished their first sleep away camp experience at this camp and they loved it! The activities are second to none. They especially enjoyed the on campus "Atlantis", and "the blob", a giant floating obstacle course and air mattress. "Outcamp" trips to the local lake is another crowd favorite. Campers ride a house boat out to the middle of the lake from where they launch the waverunners, jetskis, waterskis, tubes, etc. The food was great, with lots of healthy and kid friendly options, and the campers also access laundry once a week. But it's the staff that takes this camp to the next level. From the moment the buses arrive, the warmth and energy from everyone on staff is almost palpable. Even during the hottest of days, infectious smiles are a testament to the fun being had -- campers and counselors both. Imo, the positive vibe starts from top down. This Establishment is family owned and deeply cared for. The employees - from office to kitchen and housekeeping staff - does their job proudly and with a smile. In my observations, this kind of teamwork comes from each feeling valued. Having said all this, this is not some utopia. These are real people. So sometimes they get sick, or tired, or are otherwise not at their 100% best. To me this is human. Let's remember that some of the counselors are newly-minted adults. While my boys's experiences were not without snags, there were plenty of great experiences ( eg fabulous counselors, even if not from their bunks) to have made their experience a truly memorable one. Last but definitely not least, what a thoughtfully run medical staff! Together, the visiting camp physician, nurse, aide, and camp infirmary mom dole out scheduled beds, coordinate meds for even when campers go off campus, all while caring for the sick and injured campers. And, given that the doc and nurse also eat and sleep among the ranks, a truly intimate and caring environment is created for all. And. No disclaimers here. There was absolutely nothing in it for me to write this review. Just telling it like I see it

I went to my son's field trip and was lucky enough to be one of the chaperons. I did not even realize this place existed. It is located off of Herndon and VanNess next to the golf coarse. I was already skeptical because that just didn't sound very outdoorsy. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they are located right next to the San Joaquin River and we were able to try out canoeing. We were also educated by some very friendly knowledgeable guides. The students were able to play some simple fun educational games about animals of prey and predators. We also learned about tracking animals as well as the local fauna. I really enjoyed this wonderful educational experience and wish to come back. However, it is an FCOE owned organization and it is not open to the public. It is open to schools and teacher's with their students. Maybe I can become a volunteer Docent or look for other ways to conserve and educate. I believe there is also an organization that will have you canoe your way through the river while picking up trash. I will pick up trash if that means I can come back and canoe! www.scoutisland.org
