I waddled into this chicken pie restaurant with the confidence of a man who had absolutely no intention of leaving hungry, and the second I pushed open the door the smell of buttery crust, roasted chicken, gravy, and herbs smacked me right in the face like a warm delicious cloud, and I could practically hear my stomach celebrating like it had just won the lottery. I sat down in the chair, opened the menu, and realized almost immediately that ordering just one chicken pie would be an absolute tragedy and a personal failure, so I began carefully planning to try as many different pies as possible like some kind of overly dedicated chicken-pie scientist conducting extremely serious and important research. Naturally I started with the classic chicken pot pie because tradition must always be respected before you begin making ridiculous food decisions, and when it arrived the crust was perfectly golden and flaky and the steam rising out of it smelled so incredible that I actually leaned back in my chair for a second just to admire it like it was a beautiful work of art. The first bite nearly made me emotional because the creamy filling, the tender chunks of chicken, and the perfectly cooked vegetables all blended together in a way that made me wonder if this might secretly be the greatest food ever created in human history, and right then and there I decided I absolutely had to order another pie immediately just to confirm that the first one wasn't a lucky accident. After finishing that one at a pace that probably worried nearby customers, I confidently ordered a garlic herb chicken pie which smelled so amazing when it arrived that the table next to me actually stopped talking and turned around to look at it like I had just been served treasure. The crust shattered perfectly with every bite and the garlic and herbs made the entire pie taste so rich and comforting that I found myself nodding slowly like a judge on a cooking show who had just discovered enlightenment through baked poultry. At this point the waiter began giving my table the kind of cautious glances usually reserved for people doing something extremely questionable, mostly because the growing stack of empty pie dishes was starting to resemble a small pastry skyscraper, but I simply smiled politely and pointed at three more pies on the menu because clearly I had not yet completed my important culinary investigation. The next one to arrive was a spicy buffalo chicken pie which somehow managed to combine comfort food with complete chaos in the best way possible, and even though my forehead started sweating a little from the heat I refused to slow down because the flavor was so good that stopping would have been disrespectful to the chef. Not long after that I ordered a barbecue chicken pie because apparently my brain had decided that this entire meal was now a personal challenge, and the sweet smoky filling mixed with the buttery crust so perfectly that I briefly forgot how many pies I had already eaten and started thinking about ordering two more immediately. The waiter returned to the table and cautiously asked if I wanted anything else, and before he even finished the sentence I enthusiastically pointed to several more pies on the menu and said yes, because clearly this restaurant had not yet shown me everything it was capable of. Soon a mushroom chicken pie arrived and it was so rich and creamy that I had to pause for a moment and stare up at the ceiling while chewing, not because I was full but because my brain needed a second to process how unbelievably good the flavor was. Then came a chicken bacon ranch pie that honestly felt illegal in the best possible way, because every bite tasted like comfort, happiness, and the kind of decision that would absolutely confuse a doctor during a future checkup. By this point my table looked like the aftermath of a pie tornado because empty tins and plates were scattered everywhere, but that didn't stop me from continuing to scan the menu and point at more items like an explorer discovering entirely new lands made of chicken and pastry. The kitchen eventually sent out a special chef's chicken pie that I'm fairly certain was originally meant for multiple people to share, but I accepted the challenge with incredible enthusiasm because it smelled far too good to refuse. The crust was thicker, the filling was absolutely packed with chicken, and every bite tasted unbelievably good in a way that made me lean back and quietly whisper "wow" to myself several times. Around this time several employees casually walked past my table pretending to do other tasks but clearly just trying to observe the rapidly growing pile of empty pie tins, and I could feel the concern slowly spreading throughout the room as if everyone had realized they were witnessing some kind of historic chicken-pie event. read more

This is a takeout business that has multiple locations in Massachusetts. We stopped by one on the recommendation of a neighbor. It is very difficult to get good chicken pot pies in the grocery store and this store was worth a try. The business was clean and the woman working there was helpful once we explained that it was our first time there. You can buy chicken pies with or without vegetables. They come in warm, cold and frozen. You can also order side dishes with the pies. We purchased two frozen pies with no vegetables. My wife likes to cook her own vegetables. At home, we cooked it according to the instructions and added mashed potatoes and vegetables. We thought the pie itself was very good. The crust was crispy and the pie was filled with a large amount of white meat. The gravy was very good too. We have already returned to this business for more of their frozen chicken pies. They are so much better than the grocery store brands. We just wish the store was closer to where we live. read more

I have never been to this location before. No seating and just take-out. No problem! I could hardly see the menu behind the WALL of plastic sheeting and when I asked for some assistance, the employee pointed to the menu board. To say there was a lack of courtesy would be an understatement. No smile, no offering to help, no communication. I've been going to Harrows for many years, ever since sampling their chicken pie at the Hot Dog Safari held at Suffolk Downs. And I understand the economy is affecting every part of our lives, and not in a good way. But when you increase price AND reduce portion size, you will lose customers. The Jumbo all meat pie for $34 was seriously lacking in chicken. Could barely feed 4, let alone 6. It was mostly gravy and crust. Very disappointed. We had a good run Harrows, but it's over. Time to go back to the 50's, when most everything was homemade. read more

The answer is yes. If you want a great chicken pot pie, you have to try this. The chicken is always perfect and the crust is just perfectly buttery. There mashed potatoes were incredible as well. I stopped by the Harrows Chicken Pies in Methuen very recently. This small takeout shop is located in the Village Mall plaza next door to China Buffet. They offer fresh and frozen take and bake chicken pies (with or without vegetables) in 4 sizes including 1 serving (individual/$6.50), 2-3 servings (apartment/$13.75-$15), 4 servings (family/$18.25-$19.25), and 6 servings (jumbo/$21.75-$22.75). Side dishes are also offered including mashed potatoes, chicken gravy, squash, cranberry sauce, chicken soup, chicken salad, dinner rolls, and fruit pies. The pies are made at their Reading location and delivered here. I got an Individual Chicken Pie with Veg ($6.50) and a Pint of Mashed Potatoes ($4.50) to bring back home. The total was $11 (no tax/purchased food is like groceries). There were baking instructions on the individual pie: Refrigerated- Bake for 30-35 minutes at 375 degrees or Frozen- Bake for 60 minutes at 350 degrees. When I got home, the top very soft dough crust shifted exposing the cream gravy pie filling. I baked the chilled chicken pie (in a small round aluminum foil pie tin) for 35 minutes in the oven and microwaved the mashed potatoes. The chicken pie was filled with thick cream gravy, tender pulled white meat chicken, potato cubes, and carrots under a doughy pie crust, no side or bottom crust. The mashed potatoes were soft and smooth. Overall, the chicken pie and mashed potatoes were okay, a filling small dinner, but lacking flavor. My personal local favorite place for tasty chicken pies are served at The Chicken Connection in Haverhill and Plaistow, NH. read more

These chicken pies are very delicious. I really like the fact that you can call 1 hr ahead and pick up your pie fully cooked or get it frozen if you are going to use it later. They also sell a lot of the extras, like cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, squash and other things. Their service is really something and they are always friendly when I go there. read more

I LOVE Harrow's Chicken Pies. Just got a sweet note in the mail from a friend raving about the Harrow's chicken pie I had dropped off at her house right after her Mom passed away. As she said, "super easy, as it was frozen. Just popped it in the oven one stressful evening & dinner was done. And it was SO GOOD." To me, nothing says "sorry your grieving" like a good chicken pie comfort food dinner. I usually add a bottle of wine with it, depending on the person. The quality of the pies is always really good. Huge chunks of only white meat (Yay!) either alone or with carrots & potatoes in the "veggies added" pie. I usually go for "veggies added" as I just boil up some peas quick & I totally got dinner. I like peas in my pies, but Harrow's doesn't. The all meat ones are great over rice too. I keep a couple of the personal size ones in my freezer all the time for busy nights when I don't want The Beav having junk food (again). I throw it in, head out the door & he has a decent meal, even if I'm not there. Anyway, I'm in no way related to Harrow's or anything. I just really find their pies good and convenient. When you have a baby and are trying to get dinner home and cooked before bed time you really just want things to go smoothly. It was just about 6:30, I just left work and picked up my baby girl from the sitter. I called harrows pies in Methuen mass SIX times before they picked up. The first six times there wasn't any type of message or machine, it just rang until it sounded like the old AOL dial up sign in. That loud high pitch screech over the cars blue tooth was quite awful, but so was listening to my babe crying in the back. I needed to place this order for pick up so we didn't starve so I called back one last time. They picked up!! Yes! I asked to place an order to pick up, I knew they closed at 7:30 so they would have enough time to bake a pie so I asked for a frozen pie to pick up. They told me that they don't place phone orders after 6:15 (it was almost 6:30)and I'd have to come in to order the pie. I explained I just wanted a frozen one, how I had a baby and it would be helpful to have it ready so I could come in and pay quickly so she's not throwing a fit. The woman on the phone sighed and I'm a rude tone said "ugh, what do you want". I placed my super simple order, see in pics, showed up ten minutes later, paid for my pie and left. Were they not picking up the phone because they didn't want to take my order? What if I thought they closed early for some reason, maybe I wouldn't have gone there. Either way the employees there need some serious training on how not to lose customers and money. After the awful customer service I received, I went home and had dinner for the family. Harrows pies are great to me because I grew up with them. They've never changed, simple veggies, nice gravy and a flaky crust. The cranberry sauce is a family favorite and the rolls are soft and chewy. They are getting 2 stars because the food was good but customer service is everything. They represent your brand and they are the literal fave of your company. My mother lives 2 minutes away from this location and we will NEVER go there again. First everyone needs to understand this is not a sit down restaurant. It is a retail store that sells just a few items, mainly their signature Chicken Pie, with or without veggies. Why? Because that is their focus and they are masters. Having worked in the Reading/Wakefield MA are for almost 30 years, I have been picking up chicken pies from their Reading store for many many many years. I have never found another that comes close. You can buy them frozen or fresh. We always opt for the fresh and without veggies version. What makes it so good? Plenty of moist tender chicken in a delicious chicken gravy and topped off with a very nice fresh flakey crust. In all the years I have been picking up their pies, family size, and now apartment size since the kids flew the coop, I have only had one pie that was a bad experience. But it was that one fluky instance out of so so many pies, and it was years ago. They do sell a couple of sides, rolls, and one or two fruit pies. But it is the chicken pie that is the focus and star of the show. I am thrilled they now have this Methuen store, closer to home. We can now get a pie for either Saturday or Sunday dinner, that very day, as we did last weekend. It was great. read more

I have heard a lot about this place. So...I decided to try it out today. I also am upset that the pies aren't cooked. I was on my way home from work and was hoping to bring home dinner. Instead, we didn't get to eat until 8:30pm. I gave them 2 stars because ya, the pies were good, but nothing made them stand out over any other chicken pie I've eaten. And....its missing peas! Heard a lot of advertising for this new place, drove by and had the desire to try out one of these pies on lunch break - however - when I walked inside I found out that all the pies were uncooked and frozen and nothing was "ready" to eat. This place has no seating with tables, and it's not a restaurant. The kid at the counter made it seem that heating the pies up is not really a normal thing for them? making me believe they are strictly in the business of selling the uncooked/ frozen pies only. I give it one star only because I feel very disappointed. This is certainly an odd business (I'm sure the pies are great), I just don't have the time or place to cook them at work.
