Nice view points right off the highway. Very quiet and relaxing. Limited picnic benches. The water is shallow in this area and a few canoers were taking advantage of launching from this point. There were quite a few fish hitting the top of the water.

Harrison Bay State Park is in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and claims about 40 miles of the shore of Chickamauga Lake. When it began to be built as a recreation center in the 1930's, it was intended to be for the workers of the Tennessee Valley Authority. This land was originally the town of Harrison, and the villages of the last great Chieftains of the Cherokee peoples. It was given to the State of Tennessee in 1937 and became the first official Tennessee State Park. It has a marina for water recreation, 128 RV campsites, 21 primitive campsites, a golf course, a gift shop, a restaurant, a swimming pool tennis courts, volleyball fields, an interpretive center, an aviary, a mountain biking trail, and about 5 miles of hiking- the Group Camp Trail (.25 mile), the Island Loop Trail (.45 mile loop), the Lakeshore Loop Trail (.55 mile loop), the Lone Tree Trail (.15 mile), the Point Trail (.25 mile), and the Starwalk Trail (.55 mile).

More gravel for the neighbors lot too!

We love camping at state parks-well, most of the time. This is a beautiful park but the campsites leave A LOT to be desired! We are in section B and right smack in the middle. (19) Terribly uneven, NO privacy, the entire yard of the lot is gravel and the fire ring is so far away it's unusable! It's closer to the road than to our picnic are! We wanted to move to another section but the park is almost at capacity and the available lots are worse than the one we are on! If you are gonna camp here don't get a site in section B. Staff is friendly. Beautiful park for day use but camp somewhere else.

This place is a gem. I'm lucky it's a mile from my house. I do wish they would fix the pool or put in like a skate park or mountain bike park. But it's beautiful.

    Sunset from Campground D

Very nice park visit for a mild Fall camping trip. Lots of deer, Blue Herron, and other animals to see. Lovely lake for an easy kayak trip with my child. Campground D: THE PROS: We are tent campers so this is only about our campground. We stayed at site 13, which allowed for an easy walk down to the lake to see the sunset. THE CONS: The only downside- and it's a biggie for me- is that there are a LOT of big bright lights (including a street light) in and around the bathrooms which stay on all night and are VERY CLOSE to the sites. The park has a Starwalk Trail and the first plaque is all about light pollution (ironic since they have light pollution at the campground and even across the street from the Starwalk trail). Would go back but look for another site next time.

A February sunset in the "culdesac" for the general public.

I come here either to walk with my Labradoodle or to relax by the water. I definitely plan to camp in my Suburban in near future too. I enjoy the fact that the park has multiple sites - an area to observe their owl, a red tailed hawk, & a Turkey Vulture that are contained at the main entrance; four different camping areas, another area to park and stretch the legs for the general public; a large marina, a picnic and fishing dock across from the marina, hiking trails, picnic pavillions, a huge outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, and so on. The Park Rangers ate friendly.

I stayed at a primitive camp site for one night. The site itself was a stone's throw from the water, which was nice. The local wildlife (deer, squirrels, etc.) wanders the park with little fear of us humans. I enjoyed a good meal at the marina cafe while the sun set over the water. My only complaint is about the noise. Birds were cackling, loudly, for most of the night, and people started driving their big noisy vehicles around five in the morning, followed by the garbage truck starting its rounds at seven. These might not be issues for people in campers, but I did not sleep well at all.

Like Curtis B. I stayed overnight in a primitive campsite. I will agree about the noise.. he must have had the mentality to camp away from the metal garbage tins, though, as I also experienced punk ass raccoons scratching and digging into those things all night long. Lawd, what a ruckus! Park itself was beautiful, though. The campsites all had great views. I'd go again.

Beautiful setting on Lake Coeur d'Alene, along the bike trail of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Also in the heart of quaint town of Harrison.

I was looking for somewhere beautiful to get a panorama of Chattanooga (+ more) from an awesome vantage point, and I found this spot on Google. It's a bit of a winding drive to eventually arrive to the site, and when you do, parking is extremely limited. It's either you got luck or God on your side, to park right where the "rock" is, but I was very fortunate. The steps are very large and irregular getting to the actual "site", and if you are not fit --- just go slow. However, once you arrive --- it's like heaven. A view from the heavens overseeing the Tennessee River Gorge, Prentice Cooper State Forest, and valleys. Spending 20-30 minutes after getting up their will clear your mind. A view that you should not pass up!

So, from my perspective, I'd rate this as a moderately difficult hike. The trail is about 3.5 miles round trip and took us around 2 hours, not including the time we spent enjoying the view at the top. The summit is absolutely worth the effort-the view is breathtaking. Be sure to bring plenty of water. Thankfully, the trail has lots of shade, which helped keep us cool and protected from the sun.

An assortment of pre-packaged snacks & bottles of water are provided. They carry them while you hike so you don't need to! The bonus? They take professional photos of you on the hike to commemorate you & your group in action & posing! They have a quick turnaround also with access to your edited picture gallery. So no timer settings on cameras or one person out of the group pics! Oh! Best of all? The group hike is private! You won't have any randos with you! I had an awesome time! Communication was excellent from the time I inquired about booking a hike all the way through the end! They are highly responsive! I received confirmation via email & text. However, when I had questions I texted directly and a couple of days before the hike and the morning of the hike they sent me texts for updates. A waiver is required to be signed the day of the hike in person. Bug spray was provided prior to our hike. I chose to do the Soul therapy hike for my birthday because it offers a variety of scenery. It was one of my favorite hikes I've done over the years. It ranged from views above the falls down to close up views touching the water. Although, you can take a super short cut to the falls, it is still a steep path down into the gorge. We took the longer trail which is even more scenic involving various beautiful views and overlooks, tall walls of sandstone and one major steep descent of rocks into the gorge which requires a lot of careful footing placement & maybe 1-2 areas ( the rock wall or a random tree trunk) to hold onto for balance. Honestly, if I didn't have Hope & Ryan as guides and I was doing the hike on my own with just friends, I probably would have taken one look down that steep of a sea of rocks and said let's go another way. Hahaha.. But Hope was leading and offered her arm as balance support if needed, which I took a few times. Slow & steady my friends. Along the way, we also crossed two cool bridges as well. The falls were pretty and kind of reminded me of the Salto do Prego waterfall in Sao Miguel. It was a wonderful time with Hope & Ryan where we were able to learn about the area, the wildflowers and rest on the way back to our hotel in their nice, clean , comfortable and AC SUV while snacking on the way back & having good conversation. They also provide some coupons to local restaurants and shops, & an EXPERIENCE CHATTANOOGA sticker. They were kind enough to accommodate picking us up last minute at a local breakfast place that we had walked to from our hotel since, it was close to our pick up time. We really appreciated it! They offer many different hikes and different levels. If I had been there a whole week, I would have probably booked the all day waterfalls tour and the alpaca farm & coffee tour too! Be sure to check out their website! They provide in depth descriptions of their different hikes. Also, some hikes are only done certain days of the week so make sure to check for their availability! Military discounts & discounts for groups over a certain number are offered. Just be sure to mention it to them prior to payment.
