After living a number of years in Tennessee up the road from Chester Frost Park, when I decided to…read morereturn to the area as a visitor, I needed a place to camp and I knew this park would fit the bill. I have visited the park numerous times over the years while I lived here, but had never camped or stayed in the camping area. The park is well-maintained, at least the campsites are. They have easy access and are nice and level with good fire pits in picnic tables for each one. Being from the area, it was not a surprise to me to have the Lake level low when I was here in March because I know that TVA lowers the lake every winter for flood control And raises it back up in April so the water level didn't bother me. The check-in experience online was simple and straightforward. The staff at the range station are outstanding, very personable and friendly. I stayed for a week and enjoyed myself. The only downside was the showers and the bath houses. They are a little rundown and need to be upgraded. Other than that. It's a nice campground clean and well kept. People were friendly and it's a beautiful area to hang out and just enjoy the outdoors.

We just spent 3 nights with two other families there. One family has two littles, one couple had their young grandson, and we are part time empty nesters. There is something for everyone!!! Lots of water for our kayaks, other's jet skis and of course several boat docks! The RV sites are good size, with water & electric. Tent camping sites looked pretty good as well. It is a truly hidden jewel so close to Chattanooga & Dayton TN. Been living in East TN for 21 years and never knew about this wonderful spot. We will be back!

The bathhouses are clean and well maintained, and there is so much to do in the area! Despite there being a lot of kids, this campground is relatively quiet and very relaxing! I'll make it short & sweet. July 15, 2026, I called Reservations (can't remember the name of the…read moregirl who took my reservations, although I wrote it down somewhere but when I hear it, I'll know it) & booked the dates of July 18th, Saturday, to July 21st, Tuesday of 2026; B65 was the location. I explained to the female that I had trouble with self-reservation online & I couldn't see the rest of the information in the dropdown box whenever I clicked, what looked like a location was available or as I understood it to be available. She took my reservation, REPEATED IT BACK to me correctly (in between putting me on hold about 2 or 3 times) and then gave me the price. I paid for it and she sent the email confirmation. I looked at the email and saw the date I called, the time & "18th - 21st." Cool. That Saturday morning of July 18th, I drove over 9 hours (got lost a little bit because of highway construction and GPS) but made it there. Went to the office lobby, gave my name & the campground location. "Brandy" is what the front desk girl asked me as my name. "No..." I responded and repeated my name. Well, long story short, she said Brandy had my spot, I was offered another location, I took it, showed her my confirmation and saw that the reservation girl had listed me as "Tuesday, August 18, 2026 arrival" and departure "Friday, August 21, 2026." I told the young lady at the desk of the conversation of my reservation and stated that although I didn't notice the month and days were incorrect, the reservationist spoke it correctly, so that's what I saw. The part that really got me, she said I had to pay $17.00 extra to go to the new location. I refused. I have worked in hospitality for years and I know how it works. I told her I wasn't upset with her but I shouldn't have to pay for their mistake. I asked for a refund. Then I drove another 10 or so hours back home (because of traffic & getting lost trying to leave Spencer, TN). I'm just now leaving this review because I tried to forget what happened but each time someone asked me, who hadn't seen me since I returned, how my vacation went, as I replay the scenario, my emotional feelings of frustration, some anger & the memory of how exhausted I was, returns. I slept for 2 days because I had missed so much sleep just driving to TN then immediately returning home. Will I ever return to this campground? I doubt it. NO, I shall not. No one even apologized to me. All I heard was, "That'll be $17.00." My response, "17.00 for what? I'm paying?" Nooooo, I believe I'm done. Thanks for reading.

We scheduled our…read morecabin vacation months in advance only to find Hurricane Ian bearing down on us here in the Tampa Bay/Clearwater area. We have a small 3 lb. dog who the neighbor was going to watch for us on vacation but because of the storm he was unable to watch. We call KOA and asked if we could add a couple of extra days as we were needing to evacuate as Tampa/Clearwater was going to be a direct hit, they said YES! Asked due to the circumstances could we please bring our dog as we couldn't leave her. Even the Governor is saying don't leave your pets behind. Of course we wouldn't think of it. The person on the phone said. NO. It was against their policy. Because of this we would then need to cancel our reservation. Of course they would cancel but would keep our deposit. WHAT! I said we were not cancelling because we changed our mind, we are having to figure something out because we are having to flee due to the storm. She said that was their policy, no refund of deposit if the cancellation was less than a week. We called Tuesday and our arrival was Friday. Then she went on the say they have storms where there all the time and this is their policy...NO refund. Unbelievable, where is the human compassion? Must say it is not about the money, more about the structure of such an empathic policy. Maybe, I was stressed due to the storm and the unknown feeling of would we even have a home to come back to and my grown children located in Florida too. I was so angry, I found the phone number of Corporate KOA and called as I wanted them to know who truly represents them. The lady who answered was kind, understanding and expressed sympathy. She said she would contact the owner of the KOA Chattanooga West and hope that they would reconsider. She said and did all what you would expect giving this difficult situation. She made me feel like a person again that someone actually care about. Not only what we were going through but the logic to our request and the right thing to do. John called KOA Chattanooga West the next day to see if they would keep his deposit? YEP, they said it was their policy and the pending storm did not make difference and they sent him an email telling him there would be no refund. So if you ask me would I visit there, would I recommend?... The answer is NO as although I am sure it is a beautiful place there personal unkindness has certainly tainted my view. We are thankful that Hurricane Ian spared us in Tampa/Clearwater FL and pray for those who have lost their lives and homes in Ft. Myers. *Note... If you need to cancel please do so according to their policy because they don't give a @#$% about anything but the almighty dollar$. The owners of KOA Chattanooga West should be ashamed!

On our second visit to Chattanooga we had no doubt we were going, so we set out to find this place! What I did, for reference, was punched in "Prentice cooper" into google, and came up with the address: 3998 Game Reserve road, Chattanooga TN 37405. This address gets you on the trail, which turns into a gravel road. Continue to drive, passing a shooting range, tower on the right side of the road, and a small cemetery on the left. You'll finally see a clearing with fence and a gravel road that branches off to the left. We walked down this gravel road after parking, but there was a large pick up truck and a couple bikes already down there so you CAN drive down this way. I have an AWD suv, but I also saw cars coming in and out so it's accessible to most vehicles I think. The view, once you see it, is as grand as you can believe. The Tennessee meanders in and out and around in front of you, which is stunning to view. This IS one of those 'at your own risk parks', I say this because while my girlfriend and I were there, there was a deep pit in my stomach that would swell every time one or both of us got close to the edge. There's nothing to hold on to and there's no rails. Pro tip....don't fall! Prentice Cooper is a must if you're in the Chattanooga area. I'd love to see it in the fall when the leaves change, but whenever you can go, DO GO! Easily 5 stars!
