After living a number of years in Tennessee up the road from Chester Frost Park, when I decided to…read morereturn to the area as a visitor, I needed a place to camp and I knew this park would fit the bill. I have visited the park numerous times over the years while I lived here, but had never camped or stayed in the camping area. The park is well-maintained, at least the campsites are. They have easy access and are nice and level with good fire pits in picnic tables for each one. Being from the area, it was not a surprise to me to have the Lake level low when I was here in March because I know that TVA lowers the lake every winter for flood control And raises it back up in April so the water level didn't bother me. The check-in experience online was simple and straightforward. The staff at the range station are outstanding, very personable and friendly. I stayed for a week and enjoyed myself. The only downside was the showers and the bath houses. They are a little rundown and need to be upgraded. Other than that. It's a nice campground clean and well kept. People were friendly and it's a beautiful area to hang out and just enjoy the outdoors.

We just spent 3 nights with two other families there. One family has two littles, one couple had their young grandson, and we are part time empty nesters. There is something for everyone!!! Lots of water for our kayaks, other's jet skis and of course several boat docks! The RV sites are good size, with water & electric. Tent camping sites looked pretty good as well. It is a truly hidden jewel so close to Chattanooga & Dayton TN. Been living in East TN for 21 years and never knew about this wonderful spot. We will be back!

Most are visible from overlooks with short hikes, and for the more adventurous, there are treks to the bottom of the namesake falls, a cable trail (bring leather gloves, carabiner, possibly climbing gear) to Rockhouse Falls, or longer trails like the Paw Paw loop, Overlook trail, or even the Prater Place for a hidden Hemlock Falls. I also stayed in the lodge, which was fantastic! The rooms were well equipped, comfortable, and had great features like balconies. The view at the restaurant over the lake was beautiful, especially at sunset. The fisherman style cabins have decks literally on the water, so that looked like a must see at some point, too!! Couple of other hits: pet friendly rooms, pet friendly trails, golf course, cabins, fire pit and pool at lodge, Nature Center, and Visitor Center!

A few tips I want to share: 1.There's no admission fee. You can enjoy this incredible view thoroughly for free. 2.The park is enormous. If you're using GPS, do not search "Fall Creek Falls State Park." Like me, you might end up in the middle of the park with no clear direction to the falls. Instead, search for "Base of Fall Creek Falls" to go directly to the waterfall area. It's also a great place to relax, with a resort-like atmosphere and a beautifully maintained golf course. If you need a refreshing break, definitely consider visiting this park.

Lookout Mtn. / Chattanooga West KOA

Unbelievable, could this KOA Chattanooga West be the most self-centered company? We scheduled our…read morecabin vacation months in advance only to find Hurricane Ian bearing down on us here in the Tampa Bay/Clearwater area. We have a small 3 lb. dog who the neighbor was going to watch for us on vacation but because of the storm he was unable to watch. We call KOA and asked if we could add a couple of extra days as we were needing to evacuate as Tampa/Clearwater was going to be a direct hit, they said YES! Asked due to the circumstances could we please bring our dog as we couldn't leave her. Even the Governor is saying don't leave your pets behind. Of course we wouldn't think of it. The person on the phone said. NO. It was against their policy. Because of this we would then need to cancel our reservation. Of course they would cancel but would keep our deposit. WHAT! I said we were not cancelling because we changed our mind, we are having to figure something out because we are having to flee due to the storm. She said that was their policy, no refund of deposit if the cancellation was less than a week. We called Tuesday and our arrival was Friday. Then she went on the say they have storms where there all the time and this is their policy...NO refund. Unbelievable, where is the human compassion? Must say it is not about the money, more about the structure of such an empathic policy. Maybe, I was stressed due to the storm and the unknown feeling of would we even have a home to come back to and my grown children located in Florida too. I was so angry, I found the phone number of Corporate KOA and called as I wanted them to know who truly represents them. The lady who answered was kind, understanding and expressed sympathy. She said she would contact the owner of the KOA Chattanooga West and hope that they would reconsider. She said and did all what you would expect giving this difficult situation. She made me feel like a person again that someone actually care about. Not only what we were going through but the logic to our request and the right thing to do. John called KOA Chattanooga West the next day to see if they would keep his deposit? YEP, they said it was their policy and the pending storm did not make difference and they sent him an email telling him there would be no refund. So if you ask me would I visit there, would I recommend?... The answer is NO as although I am sure it is a beautiful place there personal unkindness has certainly tainted my view. We are thankful that Hurricane Ian spared us in Tampa/Clearwater FL and pray for those who have lost their lives and homes in Ft. Myers. *Note... If you need to cancel please do so according to their policy because they don't give a @#$% about anything but the almighty dollar$. The owners of KOA Chattanooga West should be ashamed!

On our second visit to Chattanooga we had no doubt we were going, so we set out to find this place! What I did, for reference, was punched in "Prentice cooper" into google, and came up with the address: 3998 Game Reserve road, Chattanooga TN 37405. This address gets you on the trail, which turns into a gravel road. Continue to drive, passing a shooting range, tower on the right side of the road, and a small cemetery on the left. You'll finally see a clearing with fence and a gravel road that branches off to the left. We walked down this gravel road after parking, but there was a large pick up truck and a couple bikes already down there so you CAN drive down this way. I have an AWD suv, but I also saw cars coming in and out so it's accessible to most vehicles I think. The view, once you see it, is as grand as you can believe. The Tennessee meanders in and out and around in front of you, which is stunning to view. This IS one of those 'at your own risk parks', I say this because while my girlfriend and I were there, there was a deep pit in my stomach that would swell every time one or both of us got close to the edge. There's nothing to hold on to and there's no rails. Pro tip....don't fall! Prentice Cooper is a must if you're in the Chattanooga area. I'd love to see it in the fall when the leaves change, but whenever you can go, DO GO! Easily 5 stars!
