One of the most beautiful waterfalls I've ever seen. If you're traveling between Kentucky and Atlanta, I highly recommend stopping by Fall Creek Falls State Park. A few tips I want to share: 1.There's no admission fee. You can enjoy this incredible view thoroughly for free. 2.The park is enormous. If you're using GPS, do not search "Fall Creek Falls State Park." Like me, you might end up in the middle of the park with no clear direction to the falls. Instead, search for "Base of Fall Creek Falls" to go directly to the waterfall area. It's also a great place to relax, with a resort-like atmosphere and a beautifully maintained golf course. If you need a refreshing break, definitely consider visiting this park.

What a beautiful national park. So much to do. We made a day trip but many options for an overnight stay. We did the suspension bridge trail. Beautiful view of the falls and the swimming hole but the bridge is not for the faint of heart. You think it's ok until you are in the middle and it's starts rocking. It's safe but definitely affects your equilibrium. The views are worth it!

Nice little hike down to the waterfall, took both dogs with us. The terrain gets more difficult the lower you go, or the closer you want to get to the bottom of the waterfall. There are some parts of the hike that are strenuous so you just have to test it out and see how far you're willing to go. We went to the bottom but not all the way to the bottom of the waterfall as that's a steep climb down. It was a decent hike, weather was lovely. Definitely wouldn't do this hike if it were raining as the rocks and dirt can get slippery. Would definitely recommend seeing this lovely view even if it's just viewing from the top of the waterfall.

Campground B, site B63. Hiked the woodland trail, saw the beautiful falls, swam in the cascades falls, so nice! When we were there in August '25, though, the entire park had no water, so all the restrooms were closed! It was also very hot and we were tent camping.

Sunday, June 30th went to Fall Creek Falls State Park in Spencer, TN with hubby Tony Vanoy , Kayla Beth Fields , Joshua Hunt & Deacon Hunt. The park was lovely with full sunshine and medium water flow...I wish the flow of the fall was heavier for them but it was still extremely beautiful!!! The park is very lovely and free to enjoy!!!

This Park is a hidden gem off the beaten path. While visiting Nashville, we decided to drive a little over 2 hours to FCF. We don't regret it. Ample parking. Friendly people. Secured trails. Thanks, Tennessee.

Amazing park full of beautiful views. The waterfall was stunning, one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States at 265 feet. It would be easy to spend a couple days in this park. Hiking, swimming and enjoying nature. The park has 222 campsites in five different areas. All sites have tables, grills, water, and electricity and are served by six bathhouses. Cabins are also available. Hiking, biking, fishing, boating and rock climbing etc etc etc. We did plenty of touring and wrapped things up at the snack bar.

These parks are incredibly well maintained. The visitor centers are brand new, clean and beautiful.

Absolutely, love the hiking area. The waterfall was perfect, definitely cold enough to drink.

I had felt implicitly that there is generally a hierarchy of parks, where national parks tend to take the best land, state parks snap up some more provincial attractions, and local parks are the leftovers. But while this one is a state park, it is quite majestic, boasting what they claim is the tallest waterfall east of the Rockies, which can be seen from a distance but also offers what must be a refreshing swim underneath (I didn't have time). You wouldn't want to be swimming anywhere near the top of that waterfall, because the area is apparently prone to flash floods and other dangers, which is how it became a park in the first place. Unlike a lot of parks, it is not a cul-de-sac and you can effectively drive through it and come out the other end, helpful for travelers with places to be. The amenities appeared substantial, and many campers with tents and travelers with RVs were present. You can apparently drive quite close to the falls, but I drove to the nature center instead. I will say that it was one of the least impressive nature centers I've ever seen, being mostly a small gift shop, with one video on the history of the park playing and very little in the way of educational value. I did only a loop to the main overlook and back, spending an hour or two. I was charged no money (other than the gas I spent getting here), though I did note some ranger-led tours of the lake and the forest were offered for a fee and looked interesting. Even outside the main falls, there were plenty of other waterfalls, overlooks, swimming areas, and trails. It was a park where one could easily spend days and is certainly worth far more time than I had to devote to it.

Ask the Community - Fall Creek Falls State Park

Can you see the waterfall without having to take too far of a hike?

You certainly can! The park's namesake waterfall is visible from an overlook next to a parking lot. The same is true for most of the other waterfalls in the park.

Several people told me there are more snakes at fall creek falls then most places is this true?

While we were hiking around the lake we did see one snake out on a low branch over the water getting some sun. We also saw another small one swimming in the lake near the dam - and then watched as a fish ate it - very cool.… Read more

There's a 3/4 of a mile out and back hike called the River Trail that leads to 4 different waterfall lookout points comprising Burgess Falls SP. Waterfall #1 - The Cascades. Sort of the introduction area to the park. Waterfall #2 - First Falls. A quick glance at a 30 foot high waterfall section. But nothing special, imo. When Continuing on the trail, you'll cross over a wooden bridge and follow up a staircase. Now at... Waterfall #3 - Middle Falls... Middle Falls is 80 feet high and partially obstructed by trees and branches having grown over time. *Side Note*.... I wish park services would do some forest cutting for everyone to enjoy clearer views of the park's waterfalls. Entrance right now is free. I'd suggest charging a small fee and using that money to pay for some grooming. A lot of the observation points can't be fully appreciated. Just me venting a little, lol. Waterfall #4 - Burgess Falls... Burgess falls is the centerpiece highlight of the park. Standing at 136 feet from top to bottom, Burgess Falls can absolutely be dramatic, but still natural excess forest maturation disrupts full visibility of the falls. I did read that kayaking at the bottom of Burgess Falls is the most interactive way to come face to face with this statuesque waterfall. You can rent kayaks at Cane Hollow Recreation Area, located at the end of Cane Hollow Road. It's about 10 minutes from Burgess Falls. You can end the River Trail hike at the Top of Burgess for a panoramic overlook of the rugged gorge the falls splash down into from high above. It's another quick stop and go area before returning back towards the trailhead. Overall, Burgess Falls was a muted experience for me, but still has potential to be a rewarding visit if park authorities can maintain the inevitable growing forest hindrances that negate special moments at the waterfall overlooks.

It's a 1 mile hike down to the bottom of a gorge to reach a swimming hole Travel and Leisure Magazine rates...as one of the "10 Best in the United States"! It's $7 to gain access to the gorge. You can purchase passes online ahead of time at tnstateparks.com. Or, you can buy passes inside the Visitor Center the day of, but they allot only 200 tickets per day so depending upon the time of year, passes can sell out quickly especially during peak summers. Now...there is a waterfall overlook to check out but I think it'd be more worthwhile to get to Cummins Falls ASAP before the crowds arrive and you can always visit the lookout on the return trip back up towards the trailhead. Once you reach the river area, it's 6/10th's of a mile remaining until you arrive at the falls. Also, make sure to hang towards the left while hiking beside the river and (imo) it's imperative to be wearing water shoes as the creek is filled with sharp rocks and water levels reaching shin high. While hiking to Cummins Falls, you really get a sense for being in the heart of nature. I enjoyed the setting. Approaching the falls, it's 75 feet of cascading waters flowing down the cliffside and ideal for swimming. Best of all, visitors can climb the rocks and explore at their leisure making for an adventurous experience. Of course, it's a rite of passage to finish the experience in style by going swimming. The park opens at 8am. I'd suggest arriving as early as possible before it gets busy. The park closes at 6pm but there's a clearly stated sign that visitors must exit the gorge area by 5pm. One extra note...lifeguards are on duty at Cummins Falls throughout the day. When returning back up towards the trailhead, now head over to the lookout platform getting to admire Cummins Falls from high above. It makes for a photogenic perspective and is a clear reminder of why the great outdoors can be so special.
