Best B&B I've stayed at. We were in the Bryan Room on the second floor which was huge! It was beautifully decorated and has a nice sitting area and a fireplace. The bathroom has a stand alone tub and shower. The towels were thick and fluffy! But the best thing about that room is that it's a corner room so you have windows on 2 sides that overlook the TN River. Gorgeous!! The first floor of the house is beautiful too. They offer free water, soda and ice all day. There were a few dining rooms and it seems a shame not to be seated there for breakfasts. But vouchers were provided for Rembrandts, which is about 150 yards away. We enjoyed sitting outdoors at Rembrandt's under the trellis (trying not to feed the finches that beg). Take a lovely little walk through alleyways, catch a glimpse of bakers doing pastry magic. Admire outdoor sculptures sprinkled throughout. Go towards the Bocce court and find more sculptures there as you admire the river view. Great location. Walk to Hunter Museum. Walk to the Walnut pedestrian bridge and watch the sunset. Rooms were nicely appointed and up to date, the bathroom is too small. Unique set up, kinda like a b&b but then like an old hotel. We didn't care for the breakfast menu at the coffee chop on premises. The Italian restaurant on site is really something special as is the bread from the bakery on site. Unique place but quite pricey with no amenities. Because of price, probably will not return. read more

My fiancé and I visited this place yesterday because I absolutely love history and bed and breakfasts and learning about the story behind them. I was so excited to visit and talk with them about renting a room there for our wedding night. The first lady that greeted us as we walked in was really sweet. She welcomed us, gave us a brochure, and told us to have a look around and that the "boss" would be there soon. As we were walking down the stairs we came to this woman, who was the boss the previous lady spoke of, and she had this awful look on her face like she was appalled we were there. She said "is there something I can help you with?" in an extremely aggressive manner. Honestly I was taken back by this and confused I didn't understand why there was such a hostile tone. I responded and told her yes, that we were looking around and wanted to stay there soon on our wedding night. She "popped" her lips in the most sarcastic manner and said ".......okay" really slow and drawn out in the most condescending tone. I could not believe we were being treated that way. I've never been greeted like that in my 41 years of existence. She was an absolutely awful mannered woman and I feel so sorry for the sweet lady that has to work under her. I plan to share this experience on other platforms as well because I would hope no one wants to support a business that treats people like this. My fiancé and I were in our walking clothes so not necessarily dressed up, not sure if she was being judgmental or what the situation was. I racked my brain all day on this because I was flabbergasted by this woman and how ugly she acted towards us. We were having a beautiful morning and that really put a damper on my day. We have been welcomed with open arms by literally every one else in Chattanooga. I love this city and I realize there can be bad apples every where, I guess I just met my first one yesterday. read more

We stayed in the Frierson Room in the Maclellan House, which is ideal if you happen to have another person staying with you (it was my mom in our case); our room was what you would expect, the bathroom was in between our room and hers, and then her little single room was on the other side of the bathroom, providing privacy for both parties, which was unexpected. Her one person room was also nice; you can only book that room along with the Frierson room, but it's perfect if you happen to be traveling with a plus one with whom you don't mind sharing a bathroom. The opportunity to stay in a home with great history is a lovely step back in time & it captures the feel of the timeframe it was once occupied as a family home. The location is also perfect, as everything is walkable from here; the Art District itself is lovely; the shops, sculpture garden, the pedestrian bridge, everything so close. Rembrandt's Cafe has a wonderful breakfast included in your stay, and being so close, it's a wonderful place to enjoy your breakfast if you travel during nice weather. However, Tony's was a big disappointment. Whiskey Thief is also within walking distance and was amazing (Separate reviews for all three). read more

What a lovely place to spend a few days. Beautiful old building in the art district. Of course my husband rented the most elaborate room in the place. Sitting room, bedroom, kitchen and bath. I had never stayed at a bed and breakfast before...perhaps I should start with that! The bed and breakfast experience is unique...and not quite my cup of tea. All of the buildings in the Art District, which the Inn is located, have the same owner. There are multiple homes that make up the Inn and so some of my family stayed in other houses next door or across the street. It is its own little neighborhood of houses and restaurants...adorable! They even have a bocce court and sculpture garden. The Inn is nice and probably one of the best hotels in Chattanooga. My mother's room was gorgeous with a huge tub and shower. Mine on the other hand was a little less spectacular. Definitely nice but not a wow. And the counter space in the bathroom was nonexistent. You can also hear everything going on in the house...which is expected in an old house but strange for a hotel. But another peculiar situation was that there was a bar on the first floor. My boyfriend and I went downstairs to grab a drink while waiting for my mother only to find that the house was rented out for a rehearsal dinner. I felt like I was crashing a party just to get to my room. It was a charming experience but do not expect extravagance. read more

The great view and location were more than canceled out by the horrible mattress. Turns out the mattress was almost 20 years old. I have never slept on such a bad mattress in my life and thinking about all the dust mites and other crap in such an old mattress is just disgusting. I emailed the inn keeper to discuss this issue before leaving a bad review but it's been a week and I have yet to hear back...... read more

We live in Chattanooga, but we stayed here for the wedding night before leaving for our honeymoon. (Our family didn't want us to have to go back to the apartment.) The room was beautiful, and had an amazing view of the river. Employers were very polite and informative. The breakfast they served in the morning was so delicious. Very good quality food. This place has great rooms and wonderful staff! We filled up multiple rooms (an entire house and then some), and all of our guests where treated wonderfully. The rooms were beautiful and the breakfast was great. The rates were mostly less than the hotels in the downtown area. I highly recommend the Bluff View Inn! The restaurants here, Tony's pasta and back end cafe, and Rembrandt's are wonderful too! read more

Sadly I was not impressed with Bluff View Inn. I like to book smaller boutique style hotels because I feel they are generally much more personal and of a higher quality compared to large hotel chains. Bluff View didn't give me the nice feeling I usually get at such places. The parking was kind of a pain. Unfortunately when we arrived the one person working was on the phone taking a reservation and a ton of questions so we had to wait a while before we were able to check in. That may sound like a lame complaint but when you have been traveling and get to your hotel you want to be checking in quickly and be able to get up to your room to use the facilities. The hotel overall was nice looking and was clean but that was as good as it god. We had the Frierson Room and the bed was probably the most uncomfortable hotel bed I have ever experienced. The breakfast across the street was also terrible. Overall I feel like the service and the stay was not as good as I was expecting and I would not stay here again. read more

The room was fantastic! Inn keepers are knowledgable of area and very helpful and polite. Plenty of coffee, soda, water available at no extra charge for guests. We got a breakfast voucher to use at the café across the street and the food is fantastic! Walking distance to everything Chattanooga has to offer: parks, museums, food, shopping, baseball games, aquarium, etc. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great getaway in a classy, historic, and very reasonably priced room. read more

We spent three nights here while in Chattanooga on business. Lovely location in a clean safe neighborhood, walking distance to lots of restaurants and to the River Walk. There is a bikeshare station around the corner, too. Fireplace! Terrace! Very quiet. Gorgeous view. Loved the sculpture garden across the street. In-room toiletries were great, loved the scents. Nice big bathroom. They cleaned our room every day even though we had the "do not disturb" sign up. This is a pet peeve of mine as we keep our room quite clean and neat and really don't need housekeeping to come in every day of a short stay. Staff was polite if a bit reserved. Food at the complimentary breakfast (at Rembrandt's) was not as yummy as we expected, given how awesome the coffee was there. For example: eggs were pre-formed, fruit was flavorless and cold. The windows in the room were sealed so we could not air out the room, it was stuffy. The bed was super squeaky and the outlets hard to access. Not dealbreakers, but inconvenient enough that we grumbled. We'd consider staying here again if we were to return to Chattanooga. That Rembrandt's cafe was just steps from our room -- and stayed open so late (I think 9 or 10 pm) -- was a huge plus for us. read more

Really cute place right by the river, great views and cozy place. However, i feel like the place could have been a little cleaner. I really liked our room it had a nice fireplace and very antique furniture as well as fixtures. Breakfast was provided but it was served at their coffee shop which was quite good. very convenient walking distance to lots of restaurants, museum, aquarium and other activities. read more

Stayed here again for a second time. We still love the Bluff, and staying at the Inn, but be wary of the Chambliss room; where we stayed before. This morning at 8 a.m. they power washed the sidewalk right behind this ground floor room waking us out of a sleep. We later learned all the hubbub was due to a visit from CNN because of a later political telecast. Our bad luck. It's still an excellent place to stay, but next time we'll ask for a less noise prone room. Oh well. read more

It's been years since I've stayed at the Bluff View Inn, but all the memories from several stays are good ones. The Cafe is downstairs, Tony's across the parking lot, Rembrandts coffee in the same block, and short walks to Hunter Art Museum and the Walnut Street Bridge. read more

Beautiful surroundings!! Gorgeous room!! Super sweet staff. The only downside was the constant landscaping happening below us. Very thin walls/windows so the sound woke us up! However, they can't control that. The bed was super comfortable, the view from our room was amazing and we loved sitting on the balcony and people watching. I will definitely be back! The big kitchen was a wonderful plus so we could bring back leftovers and snacks from home. read more

Worst night sleep. Mattress so hard that your body doesn't make a dent. Hard to consider anything else when you're awake all night. 4am & writing this. Had a better night sleep at a quality inn. And would probably get a better night sleep in my car, if it wasn't so cold out. Just because the house is old doesn't mean they should decorate it with ancient, outdated, rock hard mattresses. What were they thinking. For what they charge, this is criminal. And what's worse is that the Innkeepers don't give a damn. If you eat healthy, there is no plain food at breakfast other than bread, sliced tomatoe and some tasteless melon. Can't even get a hard boiled egg. read more
