I came in for an oil change, simple as that. They sent coupons in the mail. I made an appointment early in the morning, yet still waited over an hour for an oil change that should have taken 20 minutes. The mechanic finally came out and told me I was "6k miles overdue on my spark plugs" I told him my REGULAR mechanic just changed them maybe 2 months ago. This was the first red flag, as a woman by myself I could sense they were trying to upsell me on something I didn't need. Then he goes on to say I have an oil leak--the worst/hardest kind to fix, and gave me a quote of over $1000. I had just in the last few months had a lot of work done on my car, diagnostic as well, and found it pretty convenient my regular mechanic didn't catch an oil leak but they somehow did. I declined the estimate, took my car home and spoke with multiple mechanics. I let cardboard sit under my car for several days and not a drop of oil appeared. At the advice of my mechanic I also let my engine idle for 15 minutes with the cardboard underneath, as he said some leaks do not drip until pressure builds in the engine. Still NOT A DROP! He explained to me that companies like HARRIS send out these coupons for oil changes to get you in the door, and then upsell you on all this work you don't need. They make very little money just doing oil changes all day why else would they practice business this way when they are a full service garage? I will NEVER return, and shame on them for trying to scam a young woman by herself, just trying to get her oil changed for a good price. read more

Very pleased with my service. My 2010 MDX needed to have a fair amount of service oil change, tires rotated and balanced, new plugs, plus other things and they did an outstanding job getting everything done and at a reasonable cost. Thanks for doing such a great job. read more

Went to get my car inspected. They said it needed $1,600 worth of work and failed inspection. I said I can't pay that. Took it somewhere else where it passed and required $60 of maintenance. They also didn't give me a "failed inspection" sticker which is illegal (I think) so when this was brought up they gave me a refund for the inspection. Also - my friend went here to get a new transmission LAST MONTH where it also PASSED INSPECTION...well his breaks are now grinding like crazy and we are now changing the rotors and break pads. Harris Garage - Oil Change Stations Near Me - Gloucester Point, Virginia

I took my car into here to get serviced and an oil change. The first time, they told me I had to replace the struts on my car (it is 2016 with only 50K miles). Ok. Since I was traveling far, I did not want to take any chances. They also "replaced" the rear wiper (but did not remove the plastic cover). I don't do anything that would wear out the struts, and when I asked around, others told me that I was probably taken. Ok - again, it is convenient and I said I would try it again. I took it in recently because the check engine light had come on. I was told that I would have to replace two catalytic converters. I checked with the manufacturer, and these would be under warranty so I said I would take it to the dealer. The dealer said there was nothing wrong with the catalytic converters and he had never heard of them having to be replaced on a car with only 55K miles on it/6 years old. There are several services I shop around for extensively before committing: physician, dentist, barber and auto mechanic. Without any doubt, I recommend Harris Garage. Hands down, they are the best. Honest, value conscious, capable, trustworthy and customer centered. I've been bringing my vehicles here for six years. I live in NOVA, but I have all of my vehicle repairs made at Harris. They are that good. My home is about a 15 minute drive from Harris Garage. They will bring me home after I drop the vehicle off; and pick me up when the vehicle is ready. After many vehicle inspections, I can vouch that they have never found unexpected problems; and they have not tried to elevate the bill to a certain dollar amount by recommending unnecessary repairs. (Not sure about that review criticizing their inspections.) Harris Garage is the best in Gloucester. Hands down! read more

Went to Harris Garage; I took my 2015 Chevy Colorado, which I had just purchased, in for state inspection. One of the headlamps was dim and had to be replaced to pass. The headlamps were professionally installed LEDs so the part was covered under warranty. The shop which did the service on the headlamps (Xtreme off road, Chesapeake Va - very good and honest business) honored the warranty even though the vehicle had changed hands and they quickly shipped it out to me. The 60ish year old man at Harris Garage told me that the truck had passed all other items for state inspection but was failed down to the dim headlamp. Understandable. He told me to bring the new headlamp in, he would install it (gave the estimate in writing $130.00 total) and pass the vehicle. The lamp arrived in the mail quickly - only 2 days so I called Harris on Monday to schedule the service and the girl told me the closest appointment was FRIDAY! It would seem to me that a customer that had already been in for service should have some kind of priority but the earliest she said I could bring it was Friday but maybe they were really busy. Today is Friday. I took the vehicle in at the scheduled time so that they could install the lamp and put the sticker on. Not so fast Jack. This time, guy that inspected it the week prior told me that now it wouldn't pass because the replacement bulb was LED! I told him that this is the exact replacement- the matching lamp from the working side! Nope. No consideration whatsoever. I couldn't believe my ears! I said to him, "why didn't you inform me about this when you first inspected it? Didn't you know they were LEDs at that time? I went to a lot of trouble and waited a whole week for you to tell me that you can't inspect something that you already approved except for the bulb which you previously told my you'd replace and pass the vehicle? He told me he'd replace the $600+ headlamp set with inferior halogen bulbs for 250 dollars!!! I checked Virginia state DMV laws on LED replacement lamps (If the entire headlamp assembly is changed from a halogen system to an LED system and does not require the manufacture's original wiring to be cut or compromised, then it shall be considered for inspection if it meets the requirements of subdivision A 2 of this section 19VAC30-70-510. Headlamps) They are LEGAL if professionally installed which these were. It's a gray matter if there ever was such a thing in the DMV codes. Translated, It's up to the inspector. He cared NOTHING about what I had been through and everyone at that garage treated me like a number, by the book, no empathy and no personality. The man (wish I would have taken his name) stormed away when I told him that I'm taking it somewhere else, slamming doors behind him as he went. DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP. For ANYTHING. Another bad experience I had at Harris Garage was when I took my car in for one broken lug on my wheel. A young, inexperienced mechanic was assigned to the job. He broke the knuckle attempting to fix the problem. I was charged 250 dollars for 1.50 part - a lug nut and stud. Owner didn't even offer to split the difference when he should have paid it all because it was a mistake by his worker. I paid and vowed never to go back. Why did I ever go back to this place? One of the worst service experiences of my life. I'll be back with a positive review from the place I went to AFTER Harris Garage, which I should have gone to first. read more

My front struts needed replacing. I got an appointment on the day convent for me. That day, I dropped it off at 8 AM. In approximately 10 mins., got a loaner car and was called that afternoon. Picked up car around 4pm with repairs done for $832.66 with Monroe quality replacements. Dealership quote was $1,230.00. Overall, good service and reasonable price. read more

Red Neck rip Off!! Stay Away! Brought car in for state inspection. Owned car 20+ years, last winter changed: timing belt, all wheel bearings, front rotors/pads, inspected rear brakes, all front suspension bushings, new front A-arms, 4 new rear suspension arms, belts, power steering fluid, new tires, wheel alignment, had oil analyzed which came back perfect. The car never leaked a drop of anything, never has. They failed the inspection! Said the brakes look good but, rear sway bar bushings have a couple of cracks, and both power steering boots are leaking. The brakes look good?? They have about 500 miles on them! Sway bar bushings have a couple of cracks? You're an idiot Harris. And now to the power steering leak. Took the car home, both power steering (pws) boots have an identically shaped hole in the bottom, each of which is in the exact same place on left and right boot. Odd don't you think? PWS fluid all over the bottom of the car but the level in the reservoir is right where it has always been. We had a camera hidden on the bottom of the car and it shows them poking holes in the boots! Not the 1st time we have had problems with them. We take very good care of our cars, but Harris seems to find something, quite often, that must have "just happened" to break on the way to their shop I guess 'cause it was fine this morning. Like squeaky idler pulleys, etc. So while Opie (the guy in the pics above talking to the lady in red) is distracting you in the office talking about wind shield wipers, the inbred's in the back of the garage are trashing your car. We are weighing our legal action presently. Oh by the way, took the car to another shop the next day on Rt17 near that machine shop and it passed, they agreed with all of the above too. I've been coming to Harris Garage for years. They are polite and professional. I have never had a problem with the service. Not five stars because they do tend to be pricey. However, sometimes you get what you pay for, and I've never had a complaint about the quality of service.
