What makes a great bagel? Is it the soft, pillowy innards on textured bread, or is it luscious, velvety cream cheese, you know, the kind that near melts into dairy bliss the moment it touches your lips? The world may never know, but for me, it's certainly both. The two are codependent. One lacks meaning without its counterpart. That being said, I can't decide if it's the bagel or the smear that makes a Harper's Bagel, but they've slowly inched their way into my heart (and stomach) after a few visits. The serves is always friendly and their bagels are always perfectly toasted when toasted, packed with cream cheese and provide the perfect bread chew and cream cheese tang I expect in a bagel. Coffee was so hot, it was hard to hold. Took about 15m to cool down where it could be consumed. But the big disappointment was the bagel, felt a bit dry, the veggie spread didn't actually have any veggies in it. You are better off getting a whole foods bagel. I hate writing this review to an independent, but guys, you have to do better... hope the owners reading it. I was super excited to try this spot after all the amazing 5 star reviews I saw, but unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Seeing as this place has only been open for a month I had high expectations. It's located in a strip center and it's very open when you walk in with a few tables and chairs for customers to sit. The girl that was taking our order was super sweet, but seemed to have some trouble taking the order and maybe wasn't very comfortable putting the order in. She also didn't tell us the total before taking any form of payment. By the time we asked she had already swiped the card and we saw it on the receipt. My siblings and I ordered an Asiago bagel with egg and cheddar cheese, jalapeno cheddar cream cheese and red onion, a garlic bagel with bacon and onion & chive cream cheese, and an Asiago bagel with egg and provolone cheese with tomato and a side of onion & chive cream and a coffee, which came out to around $24. The to go order came out within 5-7 minutes. We were very disappointed when we got home and unwrapped the food. First of all, one of the sandwiches didn't have egg it in, just a piece of tomato and provolone cheese. My sister had to cook her own egg at home, which was ridiculous. The bagels weren't toasted and they just threw everything on top of each other, which means the cheese wasn't melted. They put such a thin layer of cream cheese on the bagel, you could barely taste the flavor of it. The 2 bagels without meat tasted like bacon, because I assume the worker didn't change his gloves. My sister and I don't eat meat so it had a bad meat taste to it. The bagel itself was nice and big and tasted really good, but the Asiago cheese was only melted on the top of the bagel so it was peeling off. I wish the cheese was mixed into the dough before baking and topped with it too. Super disappointed with this place and most likely won't be back. If I were to come back I'd only get bagels and a tub of cream cheese. If you want a breakfast sandwich, this isn't the best place to go. read more

Best bagel breakfast sandwich!! Chewy, soft bagels. I crave this place all the time! I wish they were open more! They keep odd hours so check the schedule because people go there all the time and it's closed so they end up at the donut shop in the same parking lot. read more

I'm not one to write reviews often but I felt I had to. I went in for the first time today. I was immediately greeted by a really nice woman behind the counter and two regulars who were happy to say hello and tell me how excited I should be for my bagel after telling them it was my first time there. I'm born and raised in NY and my love of bagels runs deep. I have not found a good bagel in Texas ever. The other regular was from New Jersey so I'm thinking to myself it has to be good if this guy from Jersey is harping on about it. I bought two everything bagels and one sesame. I have family visiting from NY and wanted them to try it out too. Now it's not exactly a NY bagel but damn that was really the best bagel I've had in Texas. Something about the crispier outside and the soft dough on the inside. Holy shit. I was being transported home with each bite. The decor inside is nothing to write home about but those bagels sure were!! A+ job to Harper's Bagels on making some damn fine bagels. read more
