Visiting Az from Chicago and this hit the spot! Got me and my family right! Good people, good service

Worst spot ever if you on lunch please do not go here service is extra slow and have no sense of even caring that they are slow. I never write a bad review about a black owned business but lord knows I'm from Atlanta and the service doesn't take that long for 5 shrimp and 3 wings. It's now 1:02pm and I still haven't got my food. Please beware. read more

Great food great service. This is the real deal chicken!!! Great food. I drove from Maricopa to get some chicken.

Waited 30 min for chicken tenders and they were still raw. NEVER AGAIN. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere for food

Horrible service. Didn't even get to ordering as we called 3 times and the phone just rang endlessly. Arrived to just place a take out order. Only a mother and daughter eating and cashier who was texting on her phone couldn't even muster a smile or hello until it came from us. When we asked for a moment to look over the menu she went back to texting and just walked away from the counter. Will not be back. No wonder you have a low rating. No reason to not answer your phone especially if you only have one customer. We wanted to support a local business but this isn't the one to do that with. 1star only cause Yelp makes you. read more

The Chicken was good but the fish not so much. Not only was the perch not good it was pricey. Will be back but for wings only.

So we were in the area for a plant run at The Plant Stand of AZ (a must stop if you're interested in plants both indoors and outdoors!) and wanted to try some local takeout grub since we can't leave the plants in the car in 100 degree weather! Spotted Harold's and like to support small businesses, so we put in an order thru yelp/grubhub. 8 pieces of wings and shrimp/wings combo quoted 50 mins! So plan ahead if you're hungry. The chicken was decent - plain for the bucket and lemon pepper for the wings. The lemon pepper had a sweet taste to it vs savory, so I probably wouldn't order that again. Service was super nice and thank goodness they don't use styrofoam for takeouf! We live downtown, RoRo so wouldn't go out of our way to eat here again. But when we are close by for our plant binge, we would try Harold's again. read more

This place is a joke! Stop by yesterday evening to order chicken wings! All I got what some nasty chicken with nasty sauce and bread! I came back and everyone in my household that ate the chicken basically spent all night in the restroom! We had to throw everything in the trash can! I have had better chicken before, but this folks over charged you for their nasty food! Be aware and be warned! This folks are not serious minded people! I give them no stars! read more

Long awaited Southern-Style cooking Mom & Pop joint in the neighborhood turned out to be disillusioning but not bad! This down home little eatery in a nearby strip mall is unobtrusive, sparsely decorated and bare boned. Liver and fries pretty good, but when we recently visited found their mainstay Fried Chicken undercooked or somewhat off - the breading/frying showed very good seasoning, cole slaw good though served for a miniscule 2 spoonfuls, the Fried Liver was very good - tender, moist with just the right amount of breading, but short of excellent sauces... long wait (as they cook to order, which is not a bad thing actually). And, although family owned, nice folk and attentive, I'd like to recommend they need to adjust their kitchen techniques somewhat. Worth giving another chance - I'll be back! read more

I just got take out from this place and the chicken is tender, juicy, crispy and flavorful. I got the cat/wing combo because I've never tried catfish and it was nice and crispy and lite. I used Louisiana hot sauce on both and it was FIRE. Big shoutout to the team at Harold's thank you for the lovely meal. read more

Can go either way, between good and bad...just depends on what mod they in. By the way bucket of fries is a lot of fries. read more

I never really cared much for fried chicken and that is probably because there aren't many notable spots in Phoenix to get some. However I have to say I'm very glad that this Chi-town based restaurant opened a location in the valley of the Sun! The shrimp and wing combo with the mild sauce IS THE TRUTH!!! I ordered takeout and I was surprised the wings traveled really well. By the time I got home, the wings still had the perfect crunch to it. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the fries could've been better in my opinion. Overall I give it a 4.5/5 rating read more

Let me say, I love fried chicken, I'd have it everyday if I could and I've tried it everywhere. I love Popeyes, Roscoe's, a couple of places in California, home made... But this place is number one in my book!!!! It's soooo good I bought another order to take home so my wife could try it! I live in north Phoenix and Harold's is in south Phoenix so it's a trek but I'm going to have to make the trip frequently. Highly recommend Harold's!!!! read more

Food was trash, chicken was slimy, Server was Rude. Catfish tasted nasty. BEWARE don't go.

My Hubs and I had good here when they first opened and I didn't love it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because back at home, they've always been delicious. I think they needed to work through the kinks of opening a new, popular restaurant because they have it operating the way that I remember. We gave them another try and I'm happy we did. The food was amazing! I had the catfish and shrimp combo with mild sauce on top (I asked for it on the side) and Hubs had catfish and fries. I'm pretty sure I ate all of my food. I'd definitely suggest giving them a try if you haven't already! read more

Order ahead because the wait is long. I can order, drive the 20 miles from my house and it still won't be ready by the time I get there. These are not buffalo wings or KFC. This is good old southern fried (South Side) Chicago chicken. The wings are the whole wing. All three parts. With a really nice crisp breading. The shrimp are pretty good as well. I'm from Chicago and was so excited when this Harold's opened up. It's been long enough for them to work out the new business jitters, and they just can't do it. This was my third and last time trying to support this restaurant. I ordered 4 meals and none of them are good enough to eat. I ordered Mild on the Side and got not one single drop of sauce. I asked for the perch fried hard and got fish we couldn't even bite. I drove over 20 minutes to get to Harold's and then can't eat the $60 worth of food when I get home and then they have the nerve to not answer the phone at all. Don't waste your time...you're better off traveling to Chicago for some real Harold's. read more

A little taste of Chicago. Located on 16 St & Baseline , Harolds Chicken is a fairly new restaurant in Phoenix with choices varying from shrimp and catfish, to fried chicken and wings. Their shrimp was our favorite but the fried chicken (what they are known for ) was also nice & savory & went perfect with their sweet & mild sauce. (P.S . Make Sure To Grab A Couple Sauces, We Went Through A Few Lol ! ) . & you can't forget about the sides! They had the perfect Fries that go great with the mild sauce! . (P.S. Make Sure You Go With Time Because The Long Line Is No Joke!) . read more

Waited to try this place out once the crowds died down. I waited about 15 minutes. I ordered a bucket of chicken winds. The chicken was made to order, fried with a flaky crispy skin seasoned to perfection. The chicken is also high quality, large winds with lots of meat and no fat. I highly recommend you get your hands on some of this tasty chicken. read more

Another great dinner from Harold's! Catfish, wings and shrimp mild sauce on point! Hot, crispy, juicy delicious!!! To those dropping low stars on the wait while enjoying the food, ya'll got to work on your ratings. For those who don't know.... Harold's doesn't have chicken or fish sitting under a warmer waiting on you to order. When you order your chicken, fish or shrimp is breaded and cooked. You wait for Harold's chicken; the chicken doesn't wait for you! Minimum wait will be about 20 minutes. Why? Because your chicken has to cook! enjoying my dinner now! read more

This newly opened chicken drop is good basic fried chicken, seasoned by mild or hot sauce. But the caveats and cons of the experience are far too great to warrant more than a single visit to the eatery with a Chicago cult following. Before I begin my review in earnest, let me say that no one wants to throw shade on a local legend. It's the kind of thing that gathers the ire of the faithful who frequent long established eateries in iconic food cities like New York, Detroit and Chicago. Lovers of Harold's Chicken will no doubt laud the opening of a local Phoenix branch of their favorite chicken shack. That said, from an outsiders perspective, the chicken stop is far more hype than taste. On to the details... On my first visit, I arrived at 11am (opening time). The line was so long, I was told it would be 3 hours before getting food. I declined the wait and came back the next day. This time I arrived at 10:15am for an 11am opening. However, the restaurant didn't open for customers until 11:30, due to some maintenance issue with the equipment. Even though I was about 14th in line, I didn't get into the restaurant until 12:45pm. After ordering my food, I was finally served my take out order around 1:15, a full 3 hours after getting in line. There is no fast food restaurant in Phoenix worth a 3 hour wait, and certainly not this place. I ordered a chicken bucket (mixed 24 piece), one perch dinner (3 pieces and fries), and a large fries. The chicken was served hot, but the fries were just barely warm. The chicken is boneless mostly, with only a few dark meat pieces being bone in. The white meat was all boneless chicken tenders. Of course it was all fried comfort food, which is great, but the quality definitely does not warrant anything more than a fast food drive through attention. The perch dinner was 3 pieces of perch fish deep fried into boneless sticks. Ok, but nothing as good as any of fried fish you've had. The mild sauce is a simple, subtle sweet barbecue sauce. No spice to speak of. Not hot and just gently sweet. The hot sauce is a thin vinegar drip that doesn't taste as good as literally any hot sauce I've ever had. The prices were not high but the cost to unique flavor ratio has to be off the scale. Overall, with the enormous wait, the average flavor, lukewarm fries and sadly unsurprising sauces, this grand opening of a supposed Chicago legend was nearly an utter bust. The only real delight of the entire experience was just meeting a lot of wonderful and engaging people who were all lamenting the wait with me. read more

Love this place! Chicken is amazing and service is good. Really good fried chicken I love it

Wait is too long for catfish thats not crispy or taste good. Shrimp decent but batter falls off if you wait 5 minutes to eat it. Chicken is noooooo good. Dry and not good. You would think a mom and pops would try harder. They don't. Now, I know Harold's from other States and cities, but this one is no bueno. I attached a receipt below. Ohhh yeah, wait was 30 minutes with one person in lobby. read more

The chicken was so crispy, and the sauce is so mouth watering! I've never been to Chicago but it's great to have a piece of it in Arizona! The customer service is great, everyone seemed upbeat and while there was a wait, which was expected due to the recent grand opening they came out spoke to the line and passed out menus so I didn't mind the wait because I had some people to talk to and overlook the menu to make up my mind on what to wanted to eat order lol. Harold's Chicken is nothing short of delicious. I will be back. read more

Unfortunately, I opened my container with a chicken tender and waffle and I knew immediately that the waffle was suspicious, the chicken did look good but it was so rubbery that it wasn't pleasant to eat, it also had minimal flavor, very light breading and for me that is not a good thing. I really felt like the chicken was lacking, flavor but I will point out that it was hand breaded so at least they didn't try to pass off some frozen chicken. The reason I say that is because I'm now moving on to the waffle, oh man this was just a classic generic continental breakfast (lower end hotel) style and flavor waffle with terrible texture. STAY AWAY! Not worth the calories so I didn't bother to eat beyond my initial bite. Luckily I had ranch and my own hot sauce for the chicken because not even the hot sauce was any good. Sad lunch for a Friday. Moving on to the next stop! Make sure you are spending your money wisely folks read more

Me and my family moved here from Chicago 2 years ago and was so excited when we saw a Harold's in Phoenix. We drove the 45 minutes from Buckeye. Worth the drive. We ordered the chicken wings, pizza puffs :) and catfish. We waited 20 minutes for our food so you know they made it fresh to order. It taste like it too. All the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Not warm but hot and fresh. The mild sauce was on point. I have been enjoying authentic Chicago mild sauce for 35 years so I know great mild sauce when I taste it. They also had great $5 lunch deals. Treat yourself and enjoy some great food. I wish there Grubhub would deliver to buckeye but I don't mind driving the distance because it is just that good. read more

I'm from the south side of Chicago. Born and raised eating Harold's in Chicago. The food isn't anywhere near where it originated. This is a joke compared to the original Harold's. I cook chicken better myself honestly so I'll be saving my money from now on! Either put more effort into the food quality and service or stop ruining a classic Chicago brand. Stop serving old fish and chicken wings thinking that someone who's been eating chicken their entire life can't tell. read more

I always get the fried catfish. I don't have a picture because I eat it too fast but it's really amazing super crispy and flavorful.

They make you give a Star!! I went to Harold's Chicken and had awakened of the Southern Menu. Now I called in order the next day same time on Grubhub. The order was botched up! Thirty dollars later!! So I called and explained to the head!! I ordered their gizzards and chicken wing dinner with sauce on side. I even made a special request to make sauce put on side. He going to tell me when I order the cooks read it differ thanks I requested!! How simple is sauce on side. Then he goes on to tell me listen I have a restaurant full of people. Listen that's the reason why I'd ordered over the phone. He brushed me off. So I'm gonna take this food back to them in person in the morning! Worst place ever!! And they say support your own?? Never again. I was going to find a homeless person to eat it!! But I wouldn't dare eat it!!! #hungryonthesouthsidenexttoachickenspot read more
