We stopped in for a caffeine kick on our way home and were charmed by this lovely space! Out of respect for the many patrons who were seated and sipping, noshing and visiting, there are no inside pictures to share. Know that the owner has taken pains to preserve and enhance the beauty of this older space. Wood burning fireplace in back seating area, gorgeous wood and glass door coolers and bakery case, tile flooring and lots of woodwork. Some nice bespoke items for sale including Wiley lotion and soap, locally-made incense and oils, and a few other dainties. Our cappuccinos were delicious and service was welcoming. Baked goods are sourced from Crust - a Michigan company that is delicious (Westborn and several other Detroit-area markets sell their Fenton-baked goodies). The outside appearance drew me in. Minimalist, sophisticated and modern, I immediately wondered what this place was. One look at the menu I was hooked and had to stop in Its warm, inviting, a place I wanted to hang out for awhile in. There are many places to sit and a beautiful outside area with fire to keep warm by. I was disappointed the menu online was completely different then the menu inside. No where near as many cocktail and warm boozy options listed online. I was told that the online menu wasn't updated. There were some that were still available if you go through the list with them but if they're busy that is a bit hard to do. I hope they get this adjusted. Especially in the cold season when warm boozy drinks are definitely a draw. For food.... The have different Toasts. A lot of different pastries to choose from. We ordered a few things to try. A Cinnamon Roll, Cheese Danish, and an Almond Croissant. We also ordered a Cappuccino which was very well done. Strong but not bitter. Really great flavor and design. They have Muffins, Scones, various Croissants, Cookies, Large Cinnamon Rolls. Everything I've had is delicious. Most come from Crust Bakery in Fenton they said. I can't remember where the Cinnamon Rolls are from. Everything was good and fresh. We have been back since our first visit. I have to add that the Chai Tea is delicious as well.. Visited Harless + Hugh today. It's downtown Bay City. It was a beautiful crisp autumn day for coffee by their fire pit outside. We enjoyed a hot chocolate (off menu but available) and 2 iced seasonal lattes. You have to try the maple latte especially for those who are not pumpkin spice girls/guys. It was delicious! We ordered a chocolate croissant, lox toast and a fig toast. Sourdough was crunchy with a wonderfully gooey spread of cream cheese with lox and capers. The figs were sweet with honey on the ricotta spread and toast. Thanks to the staff for a great start to our day - especially for making a hot chocolate for our non-coffee drinker! read more

What a hidden gem and my favorite stop here in bay city! The avocado toast was my favorite thing in the world. The combination on vinaigrette with the heaping scoop on smashed avocado, topped with arugula,, everything but bagel seasoning, and deviled hard-boiled egg was delightful. The yogurt was paired with chia seed, local honey and fresh berries! I cannot say enough. Everyone was so nice and even let my dog in the Arizona theme patio from the best ambiance. This was a small town, and I expected their cafes to be more blue plate Americana kind of food, but this one offered a wider, higher-end menu. They also maximized their little shop, including a courtyard out back. A diverse menu of brunch cuisine offered several temptations before I settled on a waffle; theirs comes quartered and with ample fruit and maple syrup. The waffle itself was the least interesting part. Ordering a white tea got me ample tea and just a little ice, which was great; most iced drinks are all ice but this was just enough to keep things cool. The tea itself was excellent in flavor. Having said that, the food and drinks at other tables looked nice too, as did a pastry spread, a selection of canned and bottled beverages, and a small marketplace of niche food items. I was redirected from other food plans in my search for vegetarian-friendly food in central Michigan, and I found this place to be a winner. read more

Made a pit stop here on our way over to Traverse City. The food was yummy! I got the avocado toast, it was super filling and all the components went so well together. The pickled egg on top was sooo good! My friends got the fig toast which they said was amazing. In my opinion, this is the best coffee shop in town. I've tried what appears to be the top, few coffee shops, but I would say this one is the best. The flavors are perfect and the presentations are perfect. Especially since I use almond milk, which tends to be a little harder on the presentation then cow milk. The vibes are relaxing and calm. This is a really nice coffee shop! I live in Ann Arbor and we have lots of coffee places to choose from. This shop is definitely on par with the better ones in my area. I ordered an Americano and the coffee they used was very flavorful. It didn't take long for them to make it. The gentleman who made it was very nice and efficient. The space is really nicely decorated and is clean - they have a selection of curated food items that you can purchase, they were unique and I liked browsing them while waiting for my coffee. The price for an Americano was not bad, cheaper than most places especially for the good quality. I could see myself coming back here again if I am in the area. read more

I feel bad leaving a two. Because the coffee is good. And the atmosphere is very nice. But the guy working the counter about made me throw up. Every few minutes he would rub his nose. In between rubbing his nose he played with his long hair. It was disgusting. I wanted to leave. But did not want to make a scene. The place was packed. We had 6 coffees. So we had a long time to stand there and watch. Uck. My stomach hurts. We even watched him deliver people's food and on the way he rubbed up his nose. Clearly he was clueless. The girl making the coffee was fine and fast and sweet. But he was still helping and putting lids on and straws in. Further more. If you touch straws or lids and are taking peoples cash. Please wash your hands between. He also did not Wash his hands. My large family will not come here again if he is working. And most of this is common sense. I feel bad for the others who had no clue. After an over night birthday party, my husband and I ventured out for breakfast and coffee. We were recommended H + H from a local friend, and we could not be more impressed. On the outstretch of town, stood this quaint yet modern coffee shop. Parisian style table seating out front, and minimalistic and aesthetically pleasing decor. Upon after two lattes and an avocado toast togo, I wandered to the back. The back of the store has a beautiful open door with outdoor seating area, giving way to a glorious cross breeze that flows through the entire establishment. There was more private seating in the back accompanied by a ceiling to floor wood fire place, that lead into the outdoor seating area with a fire pit and ambient marketplace lighting. The coffee was hand crafted and superb. Honestly it was the slowest I've ever drank coffee, I wanted it to last our whole drive home back south. The avocado toast was delicious. Simple, yet fresh ingredients that made for a good toast. If I could, I'd give it more stars. I will definitely stop here every time we are in bay city now! read more

My favorite coffee shop in Bay City! Food is delicious and I was happy to see a vegetarian option. Great selection of coffee and tea; everything I have tried so far I have liked. There is also plenty of parking available nearby. Atmosphere is perfect for all types of customers. Plenty of ideal space to get work done and wifi is no trouble. There are a number of tables to sit and chat with friends, or couches and comfy chairs to sit in and read a book. They even have one of those cute little heated igloos in the back area so one can be "outside" in the colder months! I am also obsessed with the interior decor. Basically, I have no negative things to say about Harless & Hugh and will continue to make this my go-to coffeeshop when in Bay City. read more
