Ordered a burger and frose. Both were good. Burger could have used more sauce and seasoning on the patties, but overall it got the job done. There was a live band when we stopped in, which was nice. Service was quick and they seemed to keep the line going without any issues. Plenty of seats indoors and outdoors. My only real problem is with how dirty it was inside. The place could use a good deep clean and maybe more frequent extermination, especially in the restroom. There were a couple of dead water bugs/roaches in the restroom that looked like they'd be there collecting dust for a minute. Yelp Elite invited me to this divey, old-timey diner and milkshake serving joint in central Harlem, NYC. There were long lines on sweltering hot days. While Covid-masked folks walked on the sidewalk outside, the Harlem Shake had the large windows blocked and screened with plastic window panes. It's hot!! The crew working behind the counter was a begrudgingly slow kind of bunch with all sorts of comments about all sorts of people.. The focus should be just on the food: are the burgers hot? are the shakes cold and icy? does each order have napkins? That's where the focus should be. Outside I got to taste the flat-pressed burger with a mango shake and French -style skinny shoelace fries. Everything had a serious amount of flavors! The burger patties were decent; somewhat over cooked - like they were left out on the flattop too long. The fries with my order were better: seasoned great and just soft/crunch alike. The best part was my 'Mango shake' which was scrumptious. Seriously, if you come here - just get the shake if you don't know what to get (there are a few items on the menu), you can't go wrong with the shake. All in all the order was prepared and cooked very well, although I would have liked more napkins, more sauces and the order being: wait for it; READY when I am hungry to eat it, seriously, I waited for 25 minutes for a 1/8 inch flat patty to make its way onto my burger! The guy who made the shake was using a teaspoon to fill a giant vat with mango puree: SPEED IT UP, ITS NYC! So I went back to change it for another time, and once again, my order was incorrect. Took 40 mins and still never received my burger the way I wanted it my fries . It was a muggy afternoon as I was strolling through Harlem. I had a taste for a milkshake, so I decided to stop in Harlem Shake at 124 and Lenox. I looked at the menu but there was no milkshake combination that I wanted, so I asked the cashier if I could create my own. She was very kind and asked what kind did I want. I got a regular sized Cookies n Cream and Strawberry. It was blended to perfection and was extra thick (and I didn't have to ask for it that way). The service was quick and the wait time from the time I ordered my milkshake to it being ready was 5 minutes. The only downfall was that it was EXTREMELY HOT in there. The fans were on, but they were just blowing hot air. As hot as it was outside, it was hotter in the store. I assume the AC was not working, but the employees were pushing past the heat. I just wanted to get my shake and get outta that heat. The air quality in the city was already bad due to the fires in Canada, so I wasn't thrilled about the extreme heat inside the business. The food is pretty good for a burger joint We've been coming here since they opened up years ago. Their prices aren't crazy expensive but we did drop $80 for me my friend and our 3 kids to eat and when we asked for ranch dip it was another $1 like not for nothing just give the kids a ranch to share. My first experience here was on a Friday night some years back, all I really remember is it being super busy, no seats, poor customer service, very chaotic. I got the hot mess burger which is a perfect blend of spices and textures. I'm not a huge fan of spicy foods but this was very flavorful and not overly spicy. The burger itself was very juicy. The jerk fries are also great - crispy and nicely seasoned. The watermelon cooler was very refreshing and not overly sweet - I was very surprised at well it paired with the burger and fries! I ordered a Harlem classic burger and a strawberry shake. On the burger, you get two patties, cheese, onions, pickles, and their signature sauce. You can add additional toppings to your burger for an extra cost. The burger was nothing special. I had to add ketchup because it was still dry despite the signature sauce (which simply tasted like mustard). My shake was way too thick and I had to give it time to melt so that I could drink it. Shakes come in two sizes: shortie and regular. The Shake was good, but again, nothing spectacular. They told me that they have this policy where they pre authorize cards for online purchases then ask for your ID and credit card to "make sure it was the costumer" & charge you again once you arrive or they won't give you the food in which you have already paid for. I gave them my card again because I had traveled all the way from the Bronx/Westchester area and I was not going to leave without the food. With that being said, The charges were never refunded onto my card and I had to dispute the charges. Some people don't come to a fast food place with enough money with them to pay twice for a $55 order and do not appreciate their money being stolen. For the food, The truffle fries are decent. The hot honey chicken sandwich was so chewy I couldn't eat it and make me sick to my stomach. The hot mess was indeed a hot mess. I bit into it an halfway I found some type of paper in my sandwich. The burger was good, but not a stand-out, though I appreciated that the Impossible patty was cooked to a good level and not too dry or overcooked. The jerk fries were a standout - they loaded up the thick fries with seasoning and the mayo complemented the spice of the fries nicely. (Beware - there's a bit of a kick to the jerk fries and mayo, for anyone who doesn't do spice.) Such a jewel! My mom and I stumbled across this place on Friday night and we were blown away by the food. Old school diner style with great music and imagery all over the restaurant. The prices were reasonable although my burger got kind of high because I added all kinds of fancy extras (grilled onions. Cheddar and bacon). I also ordered a strawberry shakes and truffle fries. All were very delicious but I'm an extreme fan of the truffle fries. Amazing flavor! I've heard comments that the prices are too high but I think it's pretty reasonable.
