Hot mess burger
Lise H.

Craving a smaller sized meal in the area, I dropped by Harlem Shake for a hot mess burger. The smash burger had the right oomph, sweetness, tang from the chili with the 2 smashed patties. I enjoyed it without making too much of a mess (even tho it's called hot mess). Only miss was that I couldn't try a shake because they ran out of the flavor I wanted. They have free wifi on-site which made my visit the even more comfy. The decor of the place really emphasized their pride and lots of culture - great vibes. I also enjoyed the outdoor seating on the pleasant day I dropped by.

I wanted to try this place and finally was in Harlem and the opportunity presented itself. It was super crowded on a Sunday afternoon. You can order using the QR code/link and then have to wait for your number or name to be called. I ordered the harlem classic w/impossible, special sauce, a cookies and cream hake, and curly fries. The shake was yummy, not too thick. The fries were good, tasty, but not one of the more interesting ones they had on the menu like the jerk ones I saw. The burger was okay. The taste was good but it was smaller than I expected it to be so I was slightly disappointed. We sat outside in the patio area and it was fine. Way less crowded then inside and covered so didn't have to worry about the weather. This was okay but I don't think I need to come back.

Your girl has taken her talents to New York City for the weekend and my homegirl brought me to Harlem Shake to try out their smash burgers (because I'm in a binge right). This spot definitely gives your local burger joint vibes and the some of the workers definitely have that NY type of hospitality, IYKYK. I got the classic Harlem Shake burger which came with fries on the burger so that was quite interesting. Now I will say the smash burger wasn't bad but it was missing a little to me. I like mine a bit cheesier and definitely could've used a little more of their sauce because mine was a little light. The fries and burger were well seasoned though so not mad at that! Unfortunately I wasn't able to try the shake/ froze but my friends really enjoyed it and I'll try and swing back around one more time before i leave town.

Inside dining

Harlem Shake was absolutely delicious! I went there on a Saturday night and was pumped that it wasn't too over crowded and that I didn't have to wait forever to get my food. We ordered at the counter and then grabbed a booth inside - and got to see a lot of great signed photos of celebrities and entertainers who had visited this location along the walls. The decor was straight out of a 1950s burger shop and the food was so good. I got the regular burger and fries and The Harlem Shake - a red velvet milkshake that was incredible. My friend got the yam fries that were even better than the regular fries! Highly recommending going to this place when you're in the area! If I lived nearby I'd be getting takeout or delivery from here all the time!

Classic Chicken Sandwich

Harlem Shake is a go-to favorite for when I'm uptown. I enjoy most of their menu items, but so far, I have been really loving their classic crispy chicken sandwich. This handheld is roughly the size of a Pop-Eyes sandwich, but with actual ingredients for just $7.50 tip. The cole slaw and pickles are perfect, and I can easily repeat buy this without needing extra toppings. There are wait times (sometimes) with more room to sit inside & outside during work/school hours. The staff have always been chill, even when customers are hangry/ impatient. Inside has an overall vintage diner feel, with a juke box, colorful booths, and a self-serve area for sauce/napkins etc.

Delicious food and great service. This is one of those places I always make time for when visiting NYC. So many great memories, and the food is truly the highlight--perfect when you're looking for something specia

While visiting we decided to stop here for lunch. I got a beef smash burger and my husband, turkey. The burger was pretty good. I was told the turkey was good also. We got fries on the side. My sweet potato fries were actually cold. I really didn't feel like going back up there so I just ate a few and ate my husbands fries, he had regular ones. Constructive criticism, I would suggest a better system of calling your customers. I mean, idk if that's a staple thing for the establishment to yell the names, but just sitting there observing, people do not hear their names especially when they were sitting outside. Nevertheless, if I were in the area and wanted a burger, I would stop by.

Veggie burger

8 years later and I'm still rooting for Harlem Shake, despite the scant vegetarian options. In fact, not even the fries are vegetarian - they intentionally add beef fat to the frying oil. Such a pity. The veggie burger is a mashed bean and walnut patty that I personally enjoy but isn't everyone's cup of tea since it's pretty mushy. They also have impossible burgers for the faux meat crowd and a kale Caesar with chickpeas that is reliably decent. The milkshakes slap - a shortie is plenty since they're thiccc.

Still really good burger and fries joint. Customer service is always pleasant. Drinks are a plenty. A great place to bring family, friends or even classic enough for a date night. Plenty of space to dine, even with the option to dine outside. Prices are good even in the economy that we are living in. I'm sure I would visit again when I'm craving those delicious jerk fries with the jerk Mayo. It's something everyone should at least try once. Two thumbs up from me! Happy Yelping!

Ordered the burger, hot chicken sandwich, snoop dog and fries. The food was good, not spectacular. Prices were a little high for fast food. Snoop chili cheese dog is a disaster. Don't get. Waste of money. Service was fast though.

Harlem Classic w/ Beef and DarDra's Parmesan Truffle Fries

This place is amazing!! I tried the Harlem classic with Parmesan fries and it was delicious!! The service is energetic and the ambience is fantastic!! I would recommend the Harlem Classic to everyone!! I would definitely come here again!!

Food is OK. Super stingy! Their shakes are pretty good. I called and I did not appreciate the customer service after spending $90 there.

This is a place to find rare beer not ordinarily seen elsewhere. This was my first visit and I must have walked past Harlem Hops innumerable times along Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard in Harlem. This time I caught myself walking past on a beautiful Saturday with a five second delay and turned around and walked into Harlem Hops. Initially I thought I'll have a beer and keep it moving. I ordered a canned Hefeweizen, Deep Fried Highlighter Hefeweizen. Yep, that's the name and it was great. It supposed to have a banana note, but that was barely detectable. The clove note was there and it rode the top of this summer Hefeweizen nicely. Given this is one of the canned beers, they may have this anytime. Then I had American Pale Ale on tap, another great choice for a summer day: crisp, refreshing, cloudy light amber in color and unfiltered reminding you of a Hefeweizen. It has a slight citrus fruity flavor to my palate. There are sixteen taps. The taps change with the kegs, the season and what the owner sources from local breweries and beyond. Meanwhile, I'm having good conversations with folks who are regulars and the woman behind the bar, giving great recommendations. I forget the woman's name, but she is great. You can sample whatever they have on tap. She is good at understanding your taste profile and making recs. They also have a limited food menu. There is a backyard patio or garden and one can sit outside in front on the sidewalk. The dark interior is nice and cool on a summer day. The bathroom was clean as well. Four stars!

The bartenders often have a weirdly grouchy "bro" energy that makes you feel like you're bothering them just by ordering a drink. Last fall, one guy was even playing music that sounded like a Christian radio station. The lyrics literally had the word "Lord" in them. It felt less like a neighborhood bar on the UWS and more like I'd wandered into a roadside bar somewhere in the Bible Belt. Another bartender always seems completely checked out. It's hard to flag him down, so we end up sitting there with empty drinks until he eventually notices. On our most recent visit it was a beautiful day outside, but we decided to sit inside since we were planning to order a bunch of food and settle in for a while. The basement was musty and dark and all the windows were shut. We politely asked if they could open a window or turn on the AC for a bit just to air it out. The response was a flat "No." That was it. When we asked why, he said if he did that someone else might complain, and then he just walked away. He kind of just waived us away, it was the weirdest interaction. That was the last time we overlooked the attitude. We normally like to hang out and spend $120-$150 here, but at that price we don't want to feel like we're an imposition.

They'd make fun hosts for a great party. The space itself is confusing in an interesting way. It's cold from the tiles and exposed pipes, yet warm from the wooden walls and historic decorative figures. Maybe the idea is that you show up with your group and shape the experience into whatever you want it to be. Still, I'm of the opinion that it's a shared effort. If I'm coming out and spending my money, I deserve an experience. Let me know who you are, and I can decide if you pass my vibe check. First, they came at room temperature and tasted like they were barely reheated... not a good start. Second, both lacked flavor... tastes very plain. Last - just my opinion - I don't think the ingredients in both appetizers worked well together. I didn't enjoy either of them. Codfish fritters: disappointing. A very small serving of fritters that tastes like they had very little cod in them. They were more doughy than fishy. Branzino: although the fish was delicate and cooked perfectly, I wasn't a fan of the butter peri-peri sauce, which I found (again) lacking flavor. Hot honey fried: this was a solid dish, and the batter was sweet, spicy and crunchy as advertised. Overall, after reading the reviews my expectations were high. However, I'm not gonna lie, I was disappointed. Almost everything we ordered had problems, and considering their high price tag ($150 for the above), we were expecting more creativity and surely much higher quality. Sadly, I can't say I'd return, mostly because after having their most popular dishes, I'm not curious to taste other options on their menu.

It has that loyal following energy, the kind of place people in the know appreciate long before it becomes famous on a tourist list. They are known for their craft beer and let me tell you, they have a ton of it. I am not even into craft beer like that, but I like to experiment. At the rate I am going, it will take me about a year to get through all the options. Maybe two years if I behave responsibly. The food is great too. I think they have special days with unique menus or events once in a while because the times I went, something interesting was happening. Even on normal days, everything was on point. The fries alone are worth stopping in for. Simple, delicious, and dangerous. And the meals are well portioned, which is rare for a craft beer bar. What I really like is the vibe.
