Wow. I contracted with Harlan to have two white pines that were close to my house removed. One was enormous and very close to the house. They took that one down in three pieces. It intertwined with another white pine in my neighbor's yard. They separated the two with very minor limb breakage to my neighbor's tree. The second tree was smaller by still pretty substantial. It was already dying, so probably a little lighter than a healthy tree. They lifted that tree off in one piece. They had both trees cut down and chopped up, with final cleanup in about two hours. read more

Disappointing experience. Currently waiting for their contractor to replace my gutter downspout that was damaged during tree removal. (They never even told me about the damage. Ugh.) I was terribly disappointed with their work. To their credit, they returned to "fix" problems and things were better on day two but I will never use their services again. read more

I live in the woods and have been hiring companies to remove trees for 25 years and Harlan Tree Service ranks up there as one of the best. I watched them take down 3 huge oak trees (4 ft diameter) at a reasonable price. They were respectful of my property, hard working, friendly, prompt, and, a day later, you could hardly tell that they had been there (except that the trees were gone). We just used Harlan for removing large dead ash trees. The tree cutting crew was on time, efficient, professional and did very good job. When I contacted the company next day for some left behind tree barks, they replied right away and sent a truck the same day to take care of my complaint. I was extremely impressed with everything about Harlan Tree Service. No, I'm not a relative or friend! I knew nothing about them and got their number off a sign they had put in a customer's yard where they were working. I left a message to have someone call me regarding getting an estimate. Melanie, one of the owners (along with her father) returned my call the SAME day. We arranged a date for her to come out to do an estimate. As I explained what I was looking to have done, I became impressed with her knowledge. If what I wanted was not in the best interest of the tree, she would explain why she wouldn't recommend doing what I had asked. This was even if what I had asked would have brought in more revenue for the company. After reviewing all six trees with Melanie she said an estimate would be provided that afternoon or the next morning. Thanks to Johanna who very efficiently handles office communication and correspondence, it was emailed to me that day. I was very impressed, especially when she said she would match or beat any other estimates I received! The work was scheduled to meet my needs. A three man crew arrived at 8:30. Eric, their arborist, had my trust within 5 minutes. They worked continuously, no slacking off. After their lunch break they continued non stop until approx. 2:00. After they had trimmed dead branches, pruned, or shaped trees they asked me to check everything to make sure it was done to my expectations. The entire yard was cleaned up to the point you wouldn't even have known they had been there...EXCEPT that the trees had no more dead wood branches falling in my yard or my neighbors, no more branches were hanging way over into my neighbors yards and the trees looked so much better. I'm usually hesitant to recommend any companies to anyone. I can honestly say I have no hesitation referring Harlan Tree Services, it's a very impressive company in many ways. read more

I accepted an estimate from Melany to remove 2 trees in 1-2 weeks time. I called once a month to follow up on their schedule, but each time was a different excuse for still being 2 weeks out. Broken promises, being rude and dismissive on the phone, etc... After 6 months, I called another company (Angel from AC Tree Service) and they said it would take 5-6 weeks and it was done 5 weeks later with no hassle. Melany, if you read this, just tell people the truth and treat them with respect. And no customer wants to hear about your stress and your schedule and your excuses all the time. DO NOT HIRE THEM. If I could put zero stars I would. I called for a quote, they never showed up. They then called me back to apologize and scheduled an estimate for the following day - they never showed up! The next week they randomly showed up and the estimator proceeded to give my wife an attitude, refusing to call me, and left. Called them about a job that had a time constraint, they said they would stop by for estimate on Friday morning, never showed, called them twice more and never got a call back. Ruined a portion of my lawn because I didn't get a downed tree removed promptly. Used them before, they were unresponsive the first time, but when I finally got them to come, they did a good job. Cannot say enough about this company. Melanie answered the phone- yes a contractor who answers the phone! She came out the next day for an estimate. Very fair estimate, certainly knew her business. Our situation was a very large problem tree. Melanie was able to squeeze us in the following week. The workers arrived on the day at 7:30 am and were done by 9:30. Double trunk tree taken down by a bucket truck and crane. Nothing was "dropped". The most impressive operation I have ever seen- and we have had many trees removed as we are backed up to woods. The clean up was amazing- pretty sure they raked up more leaves then they had too! Safety and cleanliness of our property seemed a priority. Thank you Harlan Tree Service. After having a large tree down from the storm, Harlan Tree Service agreed to come and remove the next day. We took off work and waited the whole next day and they never showed up. We called at 6 pm and they said they would be there for sure the next day. Another whole day went by while we waited for them to show, and they didn't. Harlan Tree recently removed numerous pine trees from the back of my home. These trees were in the 100 foot tall range with very large stumps. Trees had to be lifted over my home by use of a crane. Harlan did this work professionally, did a great clean up and also removed all stumps to my satisfaction. I will recommend Harlan to anyone needing this type of service. read more

Initial service for tree removal and stump grinding was good and reasonably priced. When I called for additional branches to be removed later an appointment was made by the daugther of the owner, but Harlan Tree Service never showed or returned my calls. It was like a cruel joke. We were left with a yard full of heavy branches that we were forced to dispose ourselves, and wasted a day waiting for them. Very weird experience. read more

We received an immediate visit to get an estimate on pruning several trees on our property at the end of August. At that time, we were told the work would be done by late Sept/early October. At the beginning of October, I followed up and got a return phone call saying the work would be done either the week of Oct 10 or 17. Both weeks passed without any word, and WE had to call them AGAIN. The next date we were given was October 31 and at 8AM that day, we got a call about cancellation. My husband called them back and we were told it would happen Nov 4 and another no-show but no phone call. He called one more time and was told it would be done by Nov 10. Easy to guess why I'm writing this poor review. Today we found another tree service and when we called Harlan to cancel our long-standing request, he only got, "Oh, that's perfectly fine." No indication of regret for such poor customer service. Stay away, is all I can say. read more
