This really is a hidden gem not far outside Marple Bridge. It's a Robinsons pub, so the ale selection is uninspiring, but you're really here for the seriously above average food and cosiness. Sitting by the window overlooking a sunny but chilly evening near a warming fire was gezellig indeed.
Service was excellent - speedy, helpful and friendly. It was really hard to choose from the menu, there's variety and a lot of interesting twists on classic dishes. Everything we had was great and I will come back frequently because the menu also changes frequently (I know I really like somewhere when I start plotting my return when I'm only half way through eating).
The venison lasagne croquette with smoked aioli was delectable and although wildly different in experience, the refreshing trout pastrami was also a great choice. I had caramelised cauliflower risotto for my main, it's quite a strange taste but I found it comforting and enjoyable. The featherblade also went down very well.
For dessert, I'm glad I got our server's recommendation of the sticky toffee pudding because it was fantastic, the lemon posset similarly was great. I would like to try the Terry's chocolate orange brownie sometime though...but it's going out of circulation for a while to be replaced with a creme egg one - maybe even a trade up!
Make the effort to come here, there's some great walks around and although it's a 30 min climb from Marple station a taxi would only take 5 mins. read more
