AMAZING!!! As far as I remember this place has won pub food…read moreof the year ever year since Ive lived in the area. Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

We were only stopping through for a couple of days, but still managed to pack in an afternoon of ales, cider and pool at The Cock and Pullet pub. It's a charming little pub chock full of classic English heritage. The staff were lovely and accommodating and the selection of ales, ciders and beers were most superb. If you find yourself up in this beautiful neck of the woods (it's literally right in the middle of the picturesque Peak District),I'd highly recommend that you stop in for a Tipple!

Grab some food and drinks after a walk…read more After doing part of the Limestone Walk (on the Bradford River) we were of course a good bit hungry. This place had good reviews online and was recommended by some local walkers. It's a very nice place. Felt very warm and comfy inside. But since it was a warm summer evening (and 'cause we travel with a dog) we took a table in the nice outside area. We had a beer and a cider for a starter :) For the main we ordered some pork belly w/ mash and a Pie w/ mash. Some beers on the side (and a Gin Tonic later). The pork belly was a good choice, nice and creamy sauce. Tender and crispy on top. The Pie was also nicely done, very rich filling. The mash was a wee bit bland though. Beer and Cider were cold and nice. And they gave me a really good pour on the Gin Tonic. All in all a very good choice when in the area. If for a drink or a whole meal after / during a good walk. Prices are fair, service is fast. After the good meal we headed back to Middleton-By-Youlgreave.

Entering the bar at 5.00 pm, having driven from Edinburgh, we went to book in. The worries started, they couldn't find our name in the book. My mind spun, where is the nearest Travelodge? Caroline, behind the bar, shot off to check. Returning, she rechecked to book to find that the young guy behind the bar, Josh, had the book turned to a week ago. Panic over, a minor glitch. We can laugh at it now. She booked us in, made a reservation for dinner that evening although they were extremely busy. As I pointed out it wasn't a problem as I could have a few pints while we waited. Shown to our room, The Cowshed. At least we didn't get The Pigsty. Nice comfy room. Everything we needed and plenty of space. Bathroom was again adequate but, a problem we have down south also, black mould. Not a complaint but something that maybe could be addressed. Time for dinner. The pub was heaving with regulars and diners. Lovely to see a village pub so full as so many have closed down. Service was brilliant by two young ladies with a continual smile. The food we chose was 'average'. Hunters chicken overcooked to the extent the cheese was hard. Steak and ale pie that was passed its best with dried meat and no ale. The mash was exquisite, in fact not mashed but more pureed. I think the kitchen was overworked that evening. Ice cream to follow. Those scoops were huge. Then a wonderful cafetiere of coffee. All in all, a reasonably nice evening. Night time was wonderful, so quiet and the bed so comfy. Reviewers mentioned the rude landlady. We hadn't met anyone we could class as rude last night. We went for breakfast in a really nice breakfast room to be met by Suzi, the landlady. No way could you describe this lady as rude. Eccentric maybe. A few decibels over the top, yeh. But rude, in no way. Come down south to some place for rudeness. She took our order for breakfast and made sure we had everything we needed. Yeh, she told me off for not finishing all my baked beans LOL. A lovely character. Would we return to The Farmyard? When we visit the area again it is on our list of places to stay and we would recommend this B&B to anyone. Thank you Suzi, Caroline, Josh, the two young girls serving and all those in the kitchen for a really enjoyable stay.

We had been meaning to go there for months having once passed it on a walk near Birchover. When we finally made it we were not disappointed and had one of the best lunchtime drinks in a long time. The regulars there were inclusive and entertaining and a right old laugh to be honest. The food was good (just a fish finger cob but the bacon butties looked tasty) and a realistic price not much over a couple of quid. The fire was lit and the landlord was cheery. I will be going back.

The pub is cosy and friendly, and in a great location for walkers and cyclists on the Tissington trail. Speciality starters include Sardinian Cocoi: Courgette, Tomato And Pecorino Rosti served with Pickled Onion Chutney and the delightful Prosciutto, Melon, Mozzarella and Tomato Platter (The cheese is homemade by Matteo using real buffalo milk). All of the starters are around the £4-5 mark. Mains include Prickly Pear Glazed Pork Belly With Spam And Black Pudding, Apple And Cider Chutney at £9.50 and Roast Rack Of Lamb, Roasted Pear And Cannonau Wine Sauce at £11.50.
