Southern Kitchen is in the heart of New Market. Don't blink or you could miss it. The town is…read moresmall. It is a "mom & pop" diner. It was established in 1955. I think some of the fixtures are original. The fried green beans were my favorite dish. The grilled cheese didn't have that gooey melting yumminess that makes a grilled cheese spectacular. It was just okay. The crust was a bit overdone, as if it was toasted. The extra pickles were appreciated. The cherry coke and root beer were great. I rarely drink soda so it was a treat. Hubby had the cod, shrimp platter. It was mediocre. The tiny serving of Cole slaw made him sick. Our friendly server was not locked in on our needs. We weren't in a rush but, it took time to get things.

Came here on a recommendation and found it to be great…read more The whole place is a somewhat standard American-fare bar. My wife was very excited to try the pierogi appetizer. It was delicious with some onions and what tasted like bacon fat on it. The kiddos got items from the kids' menu - a simple pasta and a small pizza. There was a special while we visited (Oktoberfest, I think) that had some fantastic German items, including a killer schnitzel with sour red cabbage and mashed potatoes. It was fantastic. I got a couple of the on-tap beers and enjoyed them much. There is a respectable cocktail menu (any of them can be made mocktail if you want). One thing I appreciated very much was how family-friendly the place is. Our waitress saw Child #3 starting to melt down and brought him over some toys to play with, commenting that she had kids of her own. Indeed, in the corner, there is a whole table full of toys for kids to play with. Even the bathroom has a full changing table setup, which is way better than those wall changing tables. Overall, a great experience.

I really wanted to have a good experience here. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case…read more I planned a day trip in Luray, VA for my husband's birthday. It was extremely hot and humid that day, and we have a baby, so we opted for an indoor restaurant with air conditioning. I came across Ollie Cat Cafe in a Google search. The online menu seemed to offer something for both of us to eat so we decided to give it a try. The parking was adequate and was a short walk from the car to the front door, which was helpful since I was carrying my baby in her car seat. When we walked in, the restaurant was about half full of patrons eating their meals. The staff was buzzing about as well. While we were standing by the front door, still holding my baby in her car seat, a staff member made eye contact with us and said "that looks heavy! I'll be with you in just a moment." She never came back to seat us. A second staff member looked at us and proceeded to keep working. While we were waiting and watching the room, a customer approached her and asked for their bill because they had been waiting so long. The waitress frantically said yes, and then walked over to the bar to get drinks for a different table. The drink station was next to where we were still standing. The same staff member proceeded to complain to my husband and I about how hectic it was and how they couldn't keep up to the point where she started bad-mouthing her own team. (The restaurant was only half full). She then directed a younger staff member at the drink station to seat us. He never even looked our way. After 15 minutes of watching the chaos, my husband, baby, and I left and went to Blue's Dog Bowl instead - where the food and staff were outstanding! So I'm sorry that I couldn't write a more thorough review of Ollie Cat Cafe, but until their staff learn how to wait tables and operate efficiently, this restaurant is going to suffer.

I had a classic burger, and husband had something with Jalapeños. Daughter had a kids meal with sweet potato fries. I was mad I was too full to finish! To top that off the atmosphere was fun and very laid back, and everything was clean (added bonus)! Wait staff was very personable as well. I hope I was able to cover all the good things, but definitely a place I would recommend and come back to if I lived here.

A wine bar owner recommended this place to us and apparently this is the 'it' local burger joint!!…read moreWe ordered onion rings, Maryland Crab Dog, Burger and mac n cheese. The servers sold us on the mac and cheese when she said the sauce is homemade. For us, the burger and the onion rings were the stars!!! The batter for the onion ring is well seasoned yet fluffy and crispy. The first bite of that burger, reminded me of in and out! We also learned that the ingredients here are locally sourced which is why they are so good. The place is cute, homey, and spacious. They have a few different rooms. They also have a jukebox and I played some Dolly Patron and Miley Cyrus. It was a hit! If you're passing the town of Strasburg heading back to DC, this place is worth a stop!

Don't miss this Italian eatery if you are passing through or staying in Woodstock.

It's hard to beat sitting down for a meal surrounded by such beautiful scenery, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. As a vegetarian, I found the lunch options a bit limited. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and the ALTO vegan sandwich. Both were perfectly fine, but neither really stood out. The food was average overall, though I was grateful to have vegetarian options available while spending the day in the park. I did notice their dinner menu includes a roasted vegetable stew, which sounded more up my alley, but unfortunately I was there during lunch hours. Overall, come for the incredible views and convenient location while exploring the park. The food didn't wow me, but it served its purpose and the staff made for a pleasant experience.
