We got a couple bacon cheeseburgers and split some fries and a chili dog. We tore it up in the covered picnic table area they have next to the trailer. If we had room on our bikes, we'd have taken something to go. We're highly considering stopping back through on our way back down to Florida. Health concerns aside, the food was excellent and the folks that worked there were personable and funny. Whenever I'm in the area on a road trip, I'll definitely stop by. If you are riding motorcycles, just be advised that driving in, there is gravel, so govern yourself and your steed accordingly.

HORRIBLE. Why can't I give ZERO stars? WHY isn't there a middle finger rating? So, my…read morerecommendation: 'IF Y'ALL AIN'T WHITE AND LOCAL, JUST KEEP DRIVIN' ". Plus, the food SUCKS! This is a walk-up window, repurposed trailer on the side of a southern semi-rural highway. We were the 2nd people to order at the window right after a dad and his little boy who'd only ordered shakes. My husband and I ordered 2 BBQ sandwiches, 1 order of fries and 1 Coke. Our bill was almost $20 including the tip. We waited well over 45 minutes, while multiple customers walked up after us, ordered, paid, were served, and left. Multiple. They hadn't called the orders in, we could hear these people ordering at the window 10 ft from us; most locals who knew each other "Y'all hear about.....?", gossiping with the woman at the window, who continued to ignore us. Furthermore, since the place had windows looking directly in at the grill, we could see our order ticket being pushed behind newer orders. We could see other people's burgers and buns being grilled, with no sign of our sandwiches in the process. Finally, my husband, who never likes to complain or assert himself in these situations, decided to say something. The old lady at the window belligerently SPEWED at him "THERE WERE OTHER PEOPLE before you who called in orders". I stepped up and challenged her on that lie, so she amended it to: 'WELL, you had fries, and it takes A WHILE FOR THE OIL ('ERL' in her language) to get hot!!!". Despite the fact that it was mid-afternoon and untold customers had walked away with greasy bags containing fries. She grunted at us that our food was almost done, then yelled something at the woman at the grill, who we could clearly see was NOT making our order. That woman then looked for our ticket and only then started on it. Did I mention that I'm not white, in fact Asian? Did I mention that the parking lot had mostly pick-ups, some of which proudly bore Confederate flag stickers? Did I mention that some of the all-white clientele made no secret of glaring at me, even with my caucasian husband witnessing this? Even a woman working inside the trailer/restaurant/KKK meet-up club gave me a distinctly unwelcome, Overlong glare when we walked up. I asked my husband if he thought I was imagining it, since we live in a very progressive little town and I might have been expecting the worst of deep south folk. He said "nope, you're not". Finally, though I just wanted to demand our $ back and leave, our lukewarm food had quickly been slapped together, shoved into a bag, and slammed on the counter in front of my husband. If I hadn't just watched our food being prepared mere feet from me, I wouldn't trust that it hadn't been spat in. Honestly, they were that unfriendly, then downright hostile. I meant it when I said: DON'T patronize this shitty food trailer if you're not a card carrying, WHITE person.

We went on a Tuesday evening and there was only a handful of patrons at the bar and a few tables. The bartender/waitress was very friendly and attentive. She had us find a seat and was quick to get drinks and appetizer orders. The menu had many interesting items including about 10 different hot dogs and 10-15 different burgers. The food came out quickly and overall was pretty good. We had deviled eggs with pimento cheese and fried banana peppers for an appetizer. Both were large and fed multiple people. The eggs were a little disappointing because they were just hard boiled eggs hollowed out with pimento cheese put in place of the yolk. Would have been more interesting to see how it could have been made with the yolk as well. The banana peppers were tasty with a good balance of sweet and crunchy. I had the burger with spicy goat cheese and the banana peppers. Overall the burger was delicious with many layers of flavor. It's a smash patty type burger with crisp edges and cooked well done. While my preference is a thicker juicy burger, this has lots of flavor to it and the unique combinations gave everyone something to try. My side was pickle fries and these were excellent. Some of the best fried pickles I've had. Overall a delicious meal for a very reasonable price.

It has a cool vibe with music and attentive servers. I love the mounts on the wall. We got here around 5:20 and people kept streaming in. We started with their chili cheese fries: they were really good. They bring out a homemade ranch that is also good. I'm a spice fan, and their chili wasn't spicy, but the chili was thick and really good. Beer selection is pretty good; lots of domestic beers and some on draft. The food was very good: their fried banana peppers and fried pickles are fantastic. I had their spicy burger without a bun (sorry, no pic) and loved it. Overall, we really liked our visit.

We were driving through…read moreAppalachia and ended up in the little town of Big Stone Gap around lunch time, and ended up here. it's surprisingly big, with a large spacious dining area and bar and sports viewing area in the back. The decor is minimalist but nice and the seating is comfortable. Service was a little slow, but pleasant. But the food itself was unexpectedly good! Their French Dip burger was excellent. It's rare to find French Dip sandwiches using traditional roast beef these days, as roast beef has been replaced by barbequed beef or pulled pork. Here they applied the French Dip concept to a well-prepared beef burger. The au jus was excellent and when the burger was dipped into it -- it was soooo good. As a side, the fire-roasted corn was out of this world, too. Whatever spices they put on the roasted corn really take it to the next level. Also amazing was their Cajun pasta with broccoli and chicken (added on). The sauce was stated as being alfredo with Cajun spices, but it tasted to me almost like a combination of pesto and alfredo. I've had Cajun style pasta sauce in many restaurants and it usually has what you'd expect in terms of Cajun seasoning. Here I'm not even sure I'd describe it as Cajun really, but whatever seasoning they put in the sauce, they should patent it. The chicken was well-grilled, tender and tasty and the broccoli pieces were also wonderful. On top were two pieces of perfectly baked Italian style bread that I used to soak up every bit of that incredible pasta sauce. Even though this place it basically 3 hours from where I live, if I'm ever anywhere near here again, I'd go back in a heartbeat!

The ladies working inside were extremely friendly and helpful, which was a great start. Their menu is incredibly unique and fun, featuring a wide variety of amazing burgers. As a fan of spicy food, I was pleased to see several options that catered to my taste. My server took the time to explain how they roast hot peppers to create their own unique blend, which I found very impressive. I decided to go with the Cold, Cold Heart burger, primarily because it included jalapeños. Although tempted by the Fire God Burger, the combination of scorpion and ghost peppers seemed a bit too intense for me. My burger was prepared quickly while I watched from the counter, which was a nice touch. The fries that accompanied it were excellent--slightly thicker than regular fries with a delightful seasoning. They were served piping hot and crispy. The highlight was definitely the burger itself. It was outstanding! The jalapeños added a lovely flavor without being overly spicy, and the bun was exceptional--soft yet sturdy enough to hold everything together without falling apart. The meat was substantial and perfectly cooked. For condiments, they offer squeeze bottles from the fridge upon request. I opted for mayo on my burger and experimented with ketchup and mustard separately to see which I preferred. Honestly, the burger was delicious with or without the additional condiments. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would highly recommend stopping in. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town!

SmashCity wasn't far off of the interstate, it had good ratings and although we'd been eating burgers and fries quite a bit on this roadtrip, a good burger and fries really sounded good. All of the reviews were right on - this was absolutely NOT fast food - it was fast, really fast, but the speed was just bonus. As we usually do, we split. We chose the Carolina BBQ smash. The burgers were juicy - if you're not careful, I guarantee you'll be wearing it. Two critiques, it definitely needed more sauce - I just added some of the SmashCity sauce from our fries and it worked but I really would have liked to have had more BBQ sauce. Second, the fried onions were quite burned. I pulled off most of them. The hand cut fries were piping hot, just the right amount of greasy and seasoned perfectly. Splitting the burger was a good call - I'd never have eaten the whole thing myself. The burger and fries were just over $20. When you consider a Big Mac meal at that clown place is $14, SmashCity is almost a bargain. Paul, the owner was like the energizer bunny - he was everywhere at once. Personality oozed from his pores. Make sure you tell him Sue said hi! (He won't remember me but just say hi anyway!) Now I wouldn't say SmashCity has the best burgers - that award goes to our friend Jerry. He makes a pretty mean smash burger on the blackstone. If you have an extra half hour, skip the fast food burger joints, get off that highway, and go let Paul fill your belly for the rest of your trip! You'll appreciate it!

As there are some great places to eat, I have definitely found my favorite as Big A$$ Biscuit and Burgers. It is right off of Carters Valley Road and Independence Ave in Mount Carmel. There is plenty of parking and it is well lit to see the signs making it easy to find. When you walk in, it is very well setup with lots of tables and chairs, coupled with another room for overflow or private events. There are televisions, a pastry cooler display, and fresh cinnamon rolls waiting for you. The restrooms are well kempt and stocked with soap and toilet paper. One of the best things about Big A$$ Biscuit is the staff and Owners. I frequent here usually a couple times a week. I have gotten to know Roger and Penny who own Big A$$ Biscuit. They are very cordial and care about their customers. You will often find Roger out smoking meat such as their amazing brisket! The servers are great, Christina, Hailey, Walker, and Krystal always make me feel welcome and attend to anything I need. Hillary is a server and chef in the back, she is friendly and does both jobs well. Maria and Connor are a great team as the chefs and always put out a tasty plate of food while ensuring to make it the way I ask. I appreciate being able to enjoy a good meal as much as a great conversation with any of them. They have a good variety of food, cold drinks, and plenty of condiments. The smoked meat is local sourced which is important as it shows Roger cares about his community. I recommend this establishment to friends and family. Many locals frequent here and provide for a relaxed and happy environment. If you are looking for a good meal with friendly people, Big A$$ Biscuit and Burgers is worth the visit.
